  1. Well, here's my weekend story! I was pumped and ready to head out onto Simcoe, for my first ever attempt at Whities and Lakers. FishnSled was to be my partner for the day and we had agreed to connect on Friday, to go over final details. After waiting 1/2 the day to hear from FnS, I decided to try and reach him... uhoh, he's not a work, they say home sick, so I called his home and sure enough, he's full blown plague infested... not lookin good for Saturday! With the GTG for Tyler coming up in a coupla weeks, I figured, it was a good time to take my Jimmy in to get the exhaust leak checked. Outta Speedy in less than an hour, gasket replaced and oil change and I'm out less than $100.00! Doing cart-wheels at this point! Sunday morning, I head out to the grocery store, stop off at the car wash to get some of the salt off my truck, drive a further two blocks and all of a sudden, I lose steering and the truck is pulling hard to the right. I pull over to the right, get out and find my front right tire is no longer verticle! It's one a 45 degree angle! BALL JOINT! As far as I could tell, there were no warning signs it was gonna let go. The truck is now at the shop getting fixed, getting both done while it's there. Here's the scarey part; -what if my wife was driving it with the two kids in it, on the highway!!! -what if I had driven it up to Simcoe... and or onto the ice! These are things that make my dander go straight up! I thank the powers that be for allowing that part to stay together long enough for me to be driving, rather than my wife and also, that it didn't let go on a highway situation. As much as it's a pain in the rear to have to deal with the repairs, it could have been significantly worse. Thanks to who ever is watchin out for my family! HH
  2. I've, unfortunately used both the Rapala and the BPS model. In all honesty, they work, but if your going to be fishing in any adverse circumstances, ie cold, rain etc... I'd be inclined to steer away from them. The can be very finicky, they don't like cold weather and they require you to keep an eye on them at all times, as I found the line was always jumping out of the slot. If you can afford it, I'd reccommend a line counter reel... and NOT the Okuma! Think Sealine here! HH
  3. Good one you! I'm thinking RETAINER!!!!! HH
  4. Really enjoyed the read, felt like I was right there with you! Thanks for taking the time and I do hope you get out a few more times... soon we'll be lookin to you for advice! HH
  5. Hi Phil, I tried to respond to your PM, but you apparently can't receive pm's! Maybe call me at the office or at home? Thanks, HH
  6. "The world is full of Kings and Queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams, it's Heaven and Hell!" Probably my most favorite Black Sabbath album. Neon Knights is a killer tune! Caught the Heaven and Hell tour in Detroit in the early 80's and also saw Ozzy in London, with Randy Rhodes. (Got some fantastic pics of that show as well ) You will most likely hear "Long Live Rock n Roll" at the show as well and if history is any indication of the future, you'll also get some of the classic Black Sabbath tunes. Enjoy the show! HH
  7. Thanks for all your input folks, some really great tips there! Now if Mr. Whitie cooperates, I'm guarranted a PB! Lookin forward to posting a very positive report and spendin the day with Fishnsled again! Thanks to all who posted for taking the time! HH
  8. I'll be coming up from the east end of Toronto and I'll be driving. Planning on heading back to the big smoke around 2:00pm. If anyone from the east end needs a ride, let me know, I have room for one person and their gear. HH PS... I'm for the moment assuming that the cold weather of late, will have added some inches to the existing ice. Can we drive out from there, ie the ramp, assuming the ice is thick enough?
  9. Great shots! Also, some very good info from Dan, I eagerly anticipate your articles. One thought that came to mind was this; when you utillize the full optical range of your camera, be very sure that you keep the camera very still, when taking your shot. Even the slightest movement of the camera, with the zoom at it's peak, will cause your shots to look blurry. A half inch movement of the camera, will result in the lense seeing a very large movementin the picture field. HH
  10. I'm heading out Saturday with FishnSled for my first ever shot at getting a Whitie/Laker. After reading some of the recent posts, I'm JONESIN.... BIG TIME!!!! That being said, I have some idea of what to bring out with me, from a tackle perspective and to date have the following ready to go; -williams spoons -Meegs jigs -Swedish Pimples -Mr. Champ -jiggin raps Do you think I'm ready to go? Should I consider any other baits? What reccommendations do you have for me? I'm really hopin to pop my Whitie cherry, same for Lakers! I appreciate any advice and look forward to your responses! HH
  11. I'm with Lew on this one. They should be forced to pay back everything their responsible for destroying, period. If they can't, I personally don't have a problem with forced labour camps, giving them an opportunity to pay back all the effected parties. I'm sure we/the governement, with a little creative thinking, could create a progam that would benefit all Canadians, by forcing these no goods to do hard labour, creating something positive for their fellow citizens. Perhaps built a new highway, bridge, work the fire brigades in the summer, to name a few. Until the thieves understand and believe that there will be severe repercussions for their actions, it's all just a slap on the wrist. HH Oh, and if all else fails... just shoot 'em! Save the tax payers coughing up for them for the next 1-20 years! Of course, what will most likely happen is that the tax payer will be stuck paying for their rehabilitation. Hey, maybe we should be looking at a system that has the FAMILIES of these people repsonsible for restitution, to the victums. Maybe then, they will be keeping an eye on there problem children.
  12. Hey Mo, I would take the 400 south to the 407 (use up that credit!) east, exit at the 404 south, to 401 east and away you go. That being said, depending on the time of morning your leaving, you may want to consider 400 south, to 9 east, to 404 south, to 401 east. Or, just start up the helicoptor and wave at everyone stopped below you!!! HH
  13. I only use braid on my dipsey rod, for everything else, I use mono that I buy in bulk. (I don't yet fish /target musky) I truly believe that the stretch characteristics of mono have helped my retain more hooked fish, than if I was running no stretch/braid. Mono has the "give" that you need when fishing big fish and your not going to be rippin the hooks outta the fishes mouth when ever they head shake or make a run. That being said, my dipsey road is spooled with Power Pro HH
  14. Ha HA, very funny Photoz! Nice to see you back! Well, for me, my mail box was well, like most, stuffed with bills and people sending me stuff to create more bills! On the bright side, my wife was waiting for me, with a lovely dinner of "hot tongue and cold shoulder"! HH
  15. Two more Canadians shot in Mexico over the weekend! I'd think long and hard before I booked a trip there! Consider Barbados as an alternative... it's the island furtherest out in the Atlantic, of the Caribean chain and has access to all kinds of fishin. HH
  16. The digital camera market is extremely competitive these days, both in quality and in price. Most major retailers will price match each other, so do your home work. I've looked at Blacks as an alternative to F/S or Best Buy, simply because they will guarrantee the price you pay for three months. They will also sell you the body only and you pick the lense (s) you want. If your considering a point and shoot, I have a coupla recommendations; -buy a camera from a company that's in the imaging business, not a manufacturer that sells every kind of electronic device. -the biggest complaint most people have about their point and shoots, is that they are very slow, from the time you line up your shot and the camera actually takes the shot. The SLR will take care of that problem for you, but has some other negatives attached to them... ie they won't like the abuse/rain/cold weather and are bulky. I would reccommend that you try out a number of cameras and find one that's fast and fits your budget. Mega pixels can be very over rated. You don't need 8 mega pixels to take a quality shot. A quick note about cards (SD). I have been told by more than one retailer that there are a very large number of counterfit cards being sold on the market these days. Have you noticed that the price for large capacity cards has dropped quite significantly? Don't buy these cards at the dollar store or any non-brand name retailer... you could be jepordizing your shots, using a card that will fail. HH
  17. Save those minnows for your next trip out to Cooks... perchies don't care if they are alive or not! Leave 'em outside to freeze solid and bring them in the house the night b4 your next outting and your good to go! HH
  18. Ok, here's what you can do... make sure the outlaws are in the room, turn on your lap top or computer and have this running on the screen.... http://boortz.com/mp3/archive/countdown.swf That should send them home fairly quickly!!!! HH
  19. Nice pics and great colours on the Eye! Thanks for the report! HH
  20. I took the "Browns the the Superbowl" this morning... does that count? Sorry for that, I couldn't help myself! Not a football fan, too boring, not enough action and far too much hype! Heck, we can't even watch the best commercials here in Canada, as Global is carrying it here and they are running their own program! HH
  21. A good alternative to maggots is Berkley Powerbait, power wigglers, micros. They will last the whole day and you don't have to keep them in your mouth to stop them from freezing! HH
  22. My best advice to you would be as follows; -talk to people who have been there and done that... Cliff would be an excellent resource -save your money, ensuring that you have atleast 6 months worth of funds available to you, should there be a dry period with receivables -take some courses, accounting comes to mind... your not going to have challenges in the day to day work, your experience will guide you, but if you have limited experience with accounting and watching your receivables, they will cause you the most stress. -consider setting up an Incorporation rather than a Sole Proprietorship... you will have less personal liability and a lower tax rate -WATCH YOR RECEIVABLES! This is the number one reason new companies fail! HH
  23. BigCliff, I don't know you personally, nor have we ever met. I have read many of your posts and also seen many here describe you over the last few years. In their posts, they've described you as a stand up guy, who does the right thing for others and is considerate of others as well. Those are all characteristics of the type of individual, employers are always seeking. They can easily find people, like the one who just took your knees out; they will have a difficult time finding a character person like yourself. As a professional in the employment business, I know what companies look for in individuals, specific skill sets aside. I know that you are feeling hurt by the situation, but that hurt will fade with the support of your family and your friends here at OFC. What ever you do, don't bring the bad bagage this situation has created, to your next interview or job. I've seen these things happen many times and those who play the game, tend to get theirs back, usually many time worse. Best of luck in the job search, and if I can be of any assisstance, please let me know! HH
