Thanks for the kind words everyone! I simply put an old friend and a relatively new friend (Gerritt) together! My old friend had a real need for some help and I saw Gerritt as a good fit! Best of luck Gerritt... Marcus is a great guy and I'm sure you'll enjoy working for him! HH

Guys, don't get me wrong, I like my Convector! I simply don't put the hours on a reel that others do. I was only relateing a friends experience, a friend who puts alot more hours on the water than I. The over size handles on the Convector are great! I really wish that Diawa would put bigger handles on their line counters. I felt I would not be doing H.G. any favours if I did not pass along what I've learned and heard from a very reliable source. Good luck on your purchases HG! Regardless of what you end up buying, you'll have fun! HH PS... Tightlines in Pickering had the best prices I found, when I was looking last year! Beat BPS by about $20.00.

Interesting Fishmaster... not to steal away from the thread... I have a buddy who charters and he bought 4 Okuma's this year and only two are still working today! The worm gear on both are toast. He has Sealines he's been using for 12 years that are still working to this day! I've caught many salmon on my Sealine! Everyone has their own experiences and loyalties and I for one am very happy to hear everyone's experience! HH

I agree, the Diawa Heartland is also a good alternative. I can't agree with the earlier reply regarding the Okuma's! They just don't last as long as the Diawa Sealine. Gear problems are their down fall... althought admittedly, I really do like the extra large handles on the Okuma... for the money, I'd just pony up another $30.00 and get the Sealine! HH

Very cool video. I wonder if a pilot of a real b29 would be inclined to do some of the stunts these guys did, like fly up-side down and inverted rolls! HH

Who's Spouse/better half fishes with them?
Headhunter replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
My wife is a city girl through and through! The first time I took her fishin, we were on the French, near Alban, renting a cottage from Moonlight Bay Camp. (18 Mile Island area). I took her to a small bay, loaded her rod with a jig, a worm and a bobber and told her to keep a close eye on the bobber and if it moved to set the hook and reel it in. Well the sunfish, perch and rockies were very cooperative that day, unfortunately for them, my wife didn't pay very much attention to her bobber and the fish almost always swallowed the hook! She got very up-set that she was hurting the fish (and feeding seagulls) and we both decided shortly there after that she should concentrate on what made her happiest... holding the front of the boat down, reading a book and catchin some rays! Since that time, I've had the pleasure of the having the best looking balast of any boat in the water! She doesn't fish, but gets a real kick outta watching me catch fish and spending time on the water, enjoying what mother nature has provided! Sure does love to eat'em to! HH -
Not the Ugly Stick but... Shimano TDR 1801 - eight foot heavy action - for dipsey's and in-line planner boards... BPS had them on sale for $26.99 around Xmas and they can be bought for under $50.00 on any given day. It'll do everything you want and not break the bank and will match up with that Sealine very well! HH

Somewhat related to the topic... two years ago I got a phone call from an insurance company asking me about purchasing life insurance. They seemed to know an aweful lot about me so I asked them where they got my personal information from? The told me they had a business relationship with Direct Energy and had all of D/E's customer info! I freaked!!!!! I called the Privacy Commisioner in Ottawa, who in turn, asked me to document the situation and they would follow up. I did and about 6 months later, I received a letter from them stating the following; Direct Energy had put a "flyer" in my bill envelope which indicated that they were going to do this and if I didn't want my information shared with another company, I WOULD HAVE TO SEND BACK A COMPLETED FORM to them, to stop the swapping of info! Apparently, like Ted Rogers negative billing scam, it's incumbant upon the customer to say no! Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I can't remember the last time I looked at all the junk mail that comes with so many of my bills!!!?? Anyway, as a result of my letter and the ensuing investigation, my name has been removed from the list, but I don't think that there have been any changes to the way D/E does business! Privacy is a huge concern these days, be sure you know what and who you are signing up for and always look at the junk in the evelopes. You could be signing up for something by not responding! HH

Very interesting read! Thanks for posting. I think I know some people who could learn a thing or two from these trout! HH

My neighbours feed the birds all winter. They get all of the above mentioned birds and many squirrels as well. He buys the no name dog food and puts it out for the birds and the Starling/Grackels (sp) fight with the squirrels to get at the meat! Commical at times and just like having a big screen tv, looking out the back window! HH

Last year I think I kept 8, all in the 16-18 in range. If I was fishin Erie and was fortunate enough to catch a limit, I would keep them. It all depends on where I am fishin. If the body of water can sustain it, I say pass the lemon! HH

Tom, I can't get any more relaxed about this topic... I couldn't care less! I do hope though, that you didn't get the wrong immpression from my earlier post! I'm not argueing the point, I believe I accepted your response as being vaild and in no way tried to contravene what you said. Actually, if you look at my response, I included a LOL at the end of my statement. Have a great day all! HH Ps... Walleye.... er Pickeral!
-
I've had this discussion many times regarding Silver Bass/White Perch... and I certainly won't argue with you! LOL Either way, it's a good size, too bad they are not very good table fare. HH
-
That is a good sized "White Perch" you caught there! HH
-
Ok... I've personally never fished there, but I know my brother goes up to a buddies cottage there atleast twice a year. This is what he tells me; -tons of smallish walleye... right off the dock, just about anywhere! -jig/minnow combo or jig and plastic combo - deadly -tons of smallish pike - good eaters -very big lake, I believe somewhat horseshoe shaped - a reservoir system -the road in off the highway can be tricky and is a long drive... make sure you have enough fuel to get in and out as you don't want to fill yer vehicle up at the marina! That's about all I can give you. Hope it helps! HH

It's funny but, pickeral fisherman catch the biggest Musky and Musky guys catch the biggest Pickeral! How many musky guys trolling around looking for that elusive trophy, end up catching a double digit Pickeral or even a huge Bass? It happens all the time! HH
-
Great report! Too bad about the catchin part... it will come! One question... I did not know that Rainbows were available to be caught on Simcoe. Are you sure that they weren't Lakers? HH

The legalities of the hit not with standing, one learns very early in their hockey playing life, not to admire a pass or shot! He got clocked because he let his guard down. I just hope it doesn't make him even more timid out on the ice. HH

Perhaps they just couldn't wait to get their limit of Whities smoked! They were hungry and a little pro-active with the smoker! HH

Funny you mention that Wayne! As a matter of fact, he is on salary and my commisions pay it! I'm not sure which of us is the smarter one, but I just can't seem to shake this instilled work ethic I'm saddled with! I come to work because that's what I'm supposed to do! If I had stayed home today, the guilt would have gotten the best of me! My boss/business partner says she wants to clone me! LOL HH
-
Well, I thought I'd resurect this thread as he did it again! Same guy in the office who couldn't come to work because his snow blower wouldn't start, can't come in today because he has some fallen branchs from his front tree, he needs to take a chain saw to! Heck, I have lots of branches on my front lawn and I'm here! Tomorrow is Saturday, I can clean it up then! Some people will do anything to get out of work! HH

Mr. JR, Pollocks has been closed for a coupla years! They were at the corner of Parialment and Queen. This shop is located about 4 blocks west of the old Pollocks shop. Terry, zippers... I thought of that, but .... HH

Spotted a sign in a window on my way into work today! Wilson's Fly Shop will be opening on Queen Street, between Sherbourne and Jarvis (Moss Park). Don't know when, the sign doesn't say, but for all those who are Fly Fisherman, there will be a new alternative for you, if you live in downtown T.O. HH
