  1. That's the one I have Gary. It works well, I like it alot! Got it a LeBarons a few years ago. I know I got it for free, to shut me up, so I can't recall what price I would have paid! LOL HH
  2. I've learned through a buddys' experience that fishing and fisherman are not considered sexy! How do I know this? My friend has been single for atleast the last 6 years. He's tried many methods in order to meet women and begin a relationship. Online dating was a last resort. Under his profile, he indicated that fishing was his passion and included a pic on himself, standing beside his boat. BAD MOVE! After connecting with some women who seemed interested in his profile, he came to learn that many if not all were turned off by the boat and his fishing passion. They felt he would not be the kind of "partner" they were looking for as he had obviously too much affection for the sport and his boat! Not what the "modern day" woman is looking for, apparently! HH
  3. The shop on Gerrard street, near Greenwood is called Pro Fishing Tackle. The lady in there is not mean, she is just cautious with her stuff! If you would like to see her smile, just tell her you are spending CASH! The price will drop and the service will go up! As Lew mentioned, Rerries is located on Kingston Road, near West Hill. The dude running the place is very weird, actually follows you around the store as you browse. His product line seems to be mainly old tackle, bought up from other shops that have closed their doors. Factory 2nds can also be found there. Be careful on this point, as there's a reason they are 2nds! His prices are higher on average than other shops, but you can barter with him and as mentioned earlier, the price will drop if you are paying cash! It's actually a decent shop to find rare or no longer available stock. Hope this helps! HH
  4. I'm a Quantum guy! I really like the feel of the reel, the sensitivity of the drag etc.. . I've only ever had one Shimano, I don't recall the model, it was years ago. I ended up throwing it in the garbage as the drag system kept loosening on it's own and one day, the spool flew off on a cast! That was it for me! Been buying Quantums' ever since! I have a Penn spinning reel, but it's pretty heavy. I still have a number of old Mitchells that still work well, but If I was to buy another reel, it would be a Quantum! HH
  5. FnS... the pleasure was all mine! I thought for sure, that when I got home about 4 hours later than expected, the Warden would have prepared her dinner specialty... "hot tongue and cold shoulder" but she's mellowing with age and just chocked it up to boys will be boys! I'm thinkin one more trip, if the ice on Cooks holds up.... I still don't have any perchies resting in my freezer! HH
  6. Why not enjoy the best of both worlds? A console for runnin from spot to spot and a kicker to troll etc... problem solved! And the fuel savings will definately add up! HH
  7. Haven't attended the show in about five years. Main reason, I could virtually attend any show that takes place at that venue, be it the "home Show" or what ever, and find probably 50% of the same vendors at these shows! It used to be a show geared to the outdoorsman, now it's a show geared to making money for the site operator and a large contingency of retailers who rent a space at every show the Trade Centre offers! Been there seen that, bought it, felt ripped off, done! HH To UB... it's been my experience that the "hicks" have more common sense in their poop, then most city people have in their entire being! I learned a very long time ago, never judge a book by it's cover!
  8. Well, I was gonna watch the show, but it was on at the same time as The Simpsons and.... well you know! Just took the quiz online, scored 135! Man, I thought I'd maybe break into the 90's but... think I'll ask for a raise!LOL HH
  9. Hooked up with FishnSled and his Dad on Sunday for some Simcoe Perchin. Left T.O. at 5:30 Sunday moring, arrived at FnS's Dad's place in Sutton at around 6:45 for our 7:00am meeting. After a quick trip to the bait shop for a scoop of minnows, we were off to "one of the beaches" near Sutton. Our first set up was in about 10- 12 ft of water. Both Will and his Dad were runnin minnows and me, my ever faithful jiggin Rap and Berkley power grubs. We caught five dinks fairly quickly and then nothing for about half an hour. We decided to head out to deeper water and made our way out to a group of huts on the far side of Georgina Island. Plenty of ice, 12 to 20 inches depending on where we drilled. No snow left on the ice, which made walking an interesting time! FnS had his snowmobile and he and his Dad would run up ahead of me, while I walked out. (or should I say slid out!) After agreeing on a spot, FnS would run back (slowly) and pick me up and run me up to our spot. Well, after an hour here and an hour there, we decided to begin to work our way back... as we had not had a bump since our first spot, earlier in the morning. We probably stopped half a dozen times, drilling three holes, trying to find water holding fish. As we approached our first spot of the day, we agreed it would be our last of the day as well! Small schools of fish would pass through the area. so we would get 10-15 minutes of action, then the same of inactivity. Wrapped it up at 4:00pm with a three man total of around 60 perch. Mostly dinks, but Will's Dad, got to keep about a dozen for dinner, so it all worked out well! Thanks again FnS for allowing me to hook up with you and your Dad! Had a great time, walked a ton (got my exercise) and as your Dad said, we got out, we laughed and we caught fish! Does it get any better than that?! HH
  10. I name all my rods with the same name... "Thunder Stick"! HH
  11. The reason for the recent drastic rise in the number of diagnosed Autism cases is the result of new guidelines outlining what falls under the Autism spectrum. Until recently, the spectrum of disabilities was limited. These new guidelines have expanded who qualifies as being Autistic. With more kids/people qualifiying, we have a huge spike in numbers. The government should be ashamed of themselves, for spending our money, to hide the truth from us! Just another example of how they work for themselves and not us! HH
  12. I'd like to thank everyone for their responses and more than anything, for keeping the discussion civil and respectful! Some very interesting points being made and I think it's a very useful discussion... getting people to think! HH
  13. I know I may be sticking myt neck out here, but I couldn't resist posting this to see what opinions you folks may have. Here's an article I found - don't lambaste me... I didn't write it! Also, I have not expressed an opinion on this publically, just looking for your thoughts! Debunking global warming myths By LICIA CORBELLA CALGARY SUN The British documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle is, well ... great. The program, which aired last Thursday in the U.K. to much buzz, has since been watched by hundreds of thousands of others around the world via the Internet. It exposes numerous lies and myths presented as fact by those who believe in the unproven hypothesis that human-created carbon dioxide (CO2) is the driver of the Earth's warming climate. The same broadcaster -- Channel 4 in the U.K. -- that recently exposed the extremist ideology being preached in Britain's supposedly "moderate" mosques has now similarly helped to tear away the veil of lies and religious zeal surrounding the global warming industry. The film features an impressive group of experts in the fields of climatology, oceanography, biogeography, meteorology, and paleoclimatology from reputable institutions such as NASA, MIT, The International Arctic Research Centre, the Pasteur Institut in Paris, the Danish National Space Center and the Universities of Winnipeg, Ottawa, London, Jerusalem, Alabama and Virginia. That should help top the claims there is a consensus of scientists who believe in man-made global warming. Expert after expert in this film blasts craters into the theory that CO2 -- which only makes up 0.054% of the earth's atmosphere -- has ever driven climate. Ice core records, in fact, prove the opposite, that CO2 lags warming by as much as 800 years. The main cause of warming is, not surprisingly, the sun. "The analogy I use," says Dr. Tim Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg, "is my car's not running very well, so I'm going to ignore the engine, which is the sun, and I'm going to ignore the transmission, which is the water vapour and I'm going to look at one nut on the right rear wheel which is the human produced CO2. The science is that bad." The film starts off covering indisputable facts. There was a Medieval Warm Period that was warmer than today -- that led to incredible wealth in Europe when the bulk of the continent's great cathedrals were built and when Britain had thriving vineyards. Then came the Little Ice Age that started in the 17th century and was so cold London's Thames River would freeze so solidly festivals were held on it. About 10,000 years ago, during a time known as the Holocene Maximum, it was much warmer even than the Medieval times. Dr. Ian Clark, Prof. of Isotope Hydrogeology and Paleoclimatology at the U of Ottawa, notes polar bears (which have become the poster-animal of the global warming industry) survived that sustained warm cycle and that volcanoes produce more CO2 every year than all human activity. What's more, prior to 1940 temperatures on Earth were rising long before industrialization took place. Then, when carbon dioxide emissions rose markedly in the post-war economic boom period, temperatures fell for the next three decades, again, in direct contravention of the theory being espoused and believed by so many. Ironically, in the 1970s, just as scientists started predicting another climate catastrophe -- an impending ice age -- the planet started warming again. The documentary ends with a quote from Dr. Fred Singer of the U of Virginia. "There will still be people who believe this is the end of the world, particularly when you have, for example, the chief scientist of the U.K. telling people that by the end of the century the only habitable place on the Earth with be the Antarctic and humanity may survive thanks to some breeding couples who move to the Antarctic. I mean, this is hilarious," he says with a chuckle. "It would be hilarious, actually, if it weren't so sad." See the film at: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog?entry=24760&only HH
  14. Hey Dutch, not to be argumentative or anything, but your statement does prove my point! Technically you own your land, but if a level of governemnt, provincial or federal, as you stated can appropriate your land for their use, then to my mind, it's only a "paper ownership". Decisions regarding the future of that land are not necessarily the owners. Here's what I mean; If I buy a car, I'm considered the owner and noone can tell me where I can drive it. As long as I follow the laws of the road and make my payments, it's mine! If I buy a house and shortly after the government comes in and tells me they are putting a road through my front lawn, I have to sell... that to me anyway does not constitute "ownership"! It's fubar as far as I'm concerned... just one of many things that annoy me... sorry for the hijack and absolutely no confrontation intended, I appreciate the info you provided. HH
  15. Fishin in Methane would be fun, until the first guy goes to light a smoke! HH
  16. A little off- topic but... it's my understanding that as a home owner you are just that! The Municipality owns the land your house is on, not the home owner! That's how they can take it away from you for a highway or airport etc... You own the structure, not the land. Now with regard to the posted question, that's a problem I'd like to have! I currently have a mutual drive, which we agree to keep mutually available and I don't have a boat. Most people are fairly easy to get along with. I've found that if you give a bit, you'll get a whole lot back in return. Take'm fishin, there's always the old "rogue wave" story about how he fell over board when your back was turned! HH
  17. Welcome to the board! Great into and I'm most impressed that you spelled "inquisitiveness" correctly!LOL Hope you have a long and productive stay! HH
  18. It went down!!!! I thought I was having the big one "Elizabeth!!!" Cold sweat as I started to think I may have to do some work today! Thank goodness it was a short time! HH
  19. I believe that Lew is correct, they can be found at CTC! Black, well that may be a harder find! HH
  20. Hey great boat! The only thing I've heard about the Tundra's is to keep an eye on the transom. They had a problem with the transoms cracking on the bigger models, but mostly from guys who are tournament guys runnin full speed across 3 and 4 footers trying to get back in time for weigh in! If you watch what your doing and use common sense, you have no problems at all! If you can find a way to do it, I'd reccommend looking at a Lowrance as an alternative to the humminbird. HH
  21. Congrats on your purchase, you'll be happy with that combo for a long time to come.... now, the fly in the ointment.... what line ya gonna spool that reel with?!LOL HH
  22. Great fish and report! Too bad you had to "white out" the background shot!!!! HH
  23. WOW! Thanks Gary! Incredible video! I really like the enthusiasm the driver has for his exploits! HH
  24. If your in the Toronto area, there is a shop on Queen Street, north side, just east of Parliament that is an antique tackle shop. Now, I've never been in, but is would suspect that they could give a good idea about pricing, rarity etc... Hope this helps? HH
  25. Opps! double post!
