A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new BMW convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through his sparse hair. Amazing, he thought as he flew down I-75, pushing the pedal even more. But, looking in his rear view mirror, he saw the State Trooper behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, 'What am I doing? I'm too old for this,' and pulled over to await the Trooper's arrival. Pulling in behind him, the Trooper walked up to the BMW, looked at his watch and said, 'Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go. The old gentleman paused. Then said, 'Three years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.' Have a good day, Sir,' replied the trooper. HH

Thames River in the London area questions
Headhunter replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
If you are giving Delaware/Killworth a try, look for back eddy's/current breaks that the fish will use to get out of the current. You really have to annoy them to get them to bite, once they are up the river/pre-spawn. Once they've spawned, they are more open to eating, but still few and far between. Hair jigs are very popular, as well as Raps. Just be aware that in many of the "common" places people fish, many jerks have thrown beds/bikes, whatever, to grab your lures for future re-sale! HH -
Don't take this the wrong way, and it is meant with all due humour, but... HUTS ARE FOR GIRLS! With the warm weather, comparatively speaking, we are having this week and potentially next week, huts are a pain! They limit your mobility and become a "crutch" when out there! Stay open and mobile and if you need a guide to find the Whities/Trout, just follow the caravan of vehicles heading out onto the lake! HH

Thames River in the London area questions
Headhunter replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Opportunities on the Thames are pretty limited at this time of year. With the Springbank Dam under construction, the "typical" waters to fish have changed. You'll find many anglers who fish the Delaware area, as well as the Killworth Bridge. Native netting has put a real hurt on the Pickeral numbers. Coarse fish may be your only option until Bass season opens, then "walking the river" is as good as any options to find action. Look for deeper than most pools in the river and good luck! HH -
Congrats Mo! Not the "ideal" job/situation, but far superior to what you were doing and I hope that it helps you cope with the long commute! Best of luck! HH

Can't argue with older reels lasting forever! I still run a Mitchell 300 that is at least 40 years old, my light rod reel is a Mitchell 309 I bought when I was 13 years old, and I bought it used! Keep a few bail springs handy and your golden! I have a Penn reel that's pushin 20 years, still looks and acts brand new and my main reels now are Quantum. Never had a Quantum let me down! I've let them down by braking the handle off, but not the reels fault! As Raf mentioned, I still have a couple of Diawa's kicking around as well. The Silver series if I recall. Gears were crap, but the silly things still work! Regular maintenance is key, but also, keeping them clean will help them last. HH

It was a great day out there! Catching my first ever Whitie, my first time trying was just awesome... I think I did the happy fisherman dance for about an hour after I caught it! Thanks to FishnSled for the tutorial and now that I have a clue as to what to use and how to use it, I'm gonna be dangerous out there! We got our limit in less then three hours after we left the large group/OFC gtg. FnS didn't mention our trip back to shore so I'll add a little colour to his post. On our way in, we spotted a car with two guys obviously stuck, so we pulled over to see if we could help. Just a word to the wise who are considering taking their sub compact car out onto the ice... Pontiac Vibes are not designed for snow drifts! The may be a little tank on the roads, but they are just too close to the ground to clear any accumulation of snow! We managed to get them out after about 15 minutes of trying and they then decided to follow us back to shore, a wise move on their part! Thanks again Will for the fantastic day. Ken was a blast to fish with and I really look forward to doing it again! I caughjt a White FIsh, I caught a White Fish! HH

Lookin good Berine! Ah heck, it looked good a couple of weekends ago in person! HH

Hey Bernie, Your gonna find that the tunes are very much different than what you and I grew up listening to, that's for sure. These guys can without a doubt, play their instruments! They are world class players, that's for sure. I found that I needed to listen to them a few times, before I found the "groove" I liked about them. I hope you enjoy them! HH

Lexx and TBayboy Whitefish Hunt Report
Headhunter replied to LeXXington's topic in General Discussion
We were right behind Chuck as he made his way "over" the pressure crack! Saw the water flying out from under his truck and decided not to continue following him!LOL To bad we didn't connect, we could have picked you up... 14k is one heck of a walk... but the walk back would have been the doozy! HH -
It was great seeing all those OFNer's on Sunday! And man, could we have asked for a better day! Was lucky enough to have gotten out with FishnSled and his buddy Ken. Funny, we really didn't know where we were heading, but with Terry's help (thanks Bud!) we virtually drove right up to Chuck's truck and dropped lines. There was Big Cliff and Beans and the rest of the crew. FishnSled is gonna write up our report and pics... thanks again Will for the freakin fantastic day! HH

I've come to realize there's a great bunch here

I'd return it to BPS and get my money back! Or, I'd take it to BPS and get them to price match it, then take it back to LB's and get them to price match it and so on, until I had accumulated enough funds to retire! Seriously, I'd take it back. HH -
I thought he looked like "Brian" from Monty Python's "Life of Brian". I post a pic if I had enough brain cells functioning to be able to grasp the concept! HH

No Bitsmith2k, they are not yelling at you! They do it because legally, they cannot make you pay taxes if they correspond with you using your correct name, ie spelling it out using capitals only at the beginning of each of your names. This is not the place to discuss the legalities, you can find all you want and more all over the internet. Here's a question for you... when did we, the general population of Canada, sign up for income tax? I don't recall every saying, yah, sign me up! Did I inadvertently sign up when I applied for a SIN? CRA will tell you, you are "contractually obligated" to pay taxes, yet, in order to legally have a signed contract, both parties must sign and agree to the terms... I don't remember ever doing that! That's one of the reasons all correspondence with CRA is in the format used! HH
-
Here's an added twist to this... have you ever noticed that any and all correspondence you receive from CRA, your name is written in capital letters? I don't know about everyone else, but I don't sign my name in caps! Ever wonder why they use capitals? There are any number of tax revolter's out there... individuals and groups... for those interested in learning more about how we are illegally being taxed to death! HH

Home remedy; 1. take a cup of red wine, add three tablespoons of sugar and bring to a boil, allowing the sugar to dissolve in the wine. Drink it while it's hot! 2. One packet of Neocitran, 4 oz. of Jack Daniels and mix the two together. It may not cure your cold, but you probably won't care very much anyway!LOL HH

COLD FX - It has saved my behind more than once... 2006 Quinte GTG, for example. Woke up the day before the event with the beginnings of a nasty cold/flu. The stuff kept me on my feet, fishin and perhaps a little beverage time as well! Follow the instructions on the bottle and it should work. I've recommended the stuff to quite a few people and 50% said it helped them a lot and 50% said it did nothing. I'm fortunate enough to fall into the 50% that it works for! Hey Don Cherry can't be wrong all the time! HH

Those are pretty interesting observations. I was under the belief that food supplies for fish were much more of a determining factor in a species ability to grow in size and numbers. Hmmm... this just seem to be getting more and more complicated!LOL HH

According to Doug Stange in my just received yesterday Walleye Insider, we should not be using minnows for Walleye at all! He claims that due to advances in plastics and changes in the way pro's fish walleye, they aren't needed. He goes on to say that most Walleye fisherman fish too slow and are missing out on the aggressive bite, by finessing live bait at in-active fish. Also, he argues that live bait increases mortality among walleye's as the are typically deep hooked using live bait. Personally, the first time in the last ten years that I've put on a minnow fishin for eyes was a couple of weekends past, ice fishin at Bernie's. Old school I guess! HH
