If so, congrats on supporting your brothers at the former "Smelco." They have driven a rough road lately and I wish all the best of luck.

Take all the previous advise seriously. Used to work for a window and door company who was one of their suppliers. A scam indeed! The membership fee is in the thousands! And is not a lifetime membership either, the membership fee alone is enough to renovate a bathroom. At least my bathroom, and I'd have money left over for a small holiday.

Became unbelievably sick once. It was back around 1975. We stopped at a grocery store that used to be on #3 HWY between Boston ON and Port Dover on our way to Turkey Point. Bought some food for the few days we were to be at my parents trailer. A buddy was over from his parents cottage at Featherstone Point. I had a couple of the dogs we had bought on #3 HWY. Driving my buddy back to his parents place I had to pull over, couldn't drive, light headed, the world was spinning. Buddy takes the wheel over, I lay down in the back seat, stomach is doing flip flops now. Get to his parents, he pulls up alongside the ditch. I pop open the back door, slide my upper half of my body out the door and it came out like a vulcano! I was so sick. Felt great 20 minutes later though, got the poison and crap out and that was it. I very rarely ever eat hotdogs ever since then. And when I do I wait for the same results to occur, but it has never happened since. Hotdogs = crap. But then again I guess it meant that if the meat is slimy in the package leave it on the store shelf, a lesson learned in my teen years. Anybody remember the racoons on the John Candy movie Summer Rental when they are rooting through the garbage can and one says to the other, hotdogs! Lips and A.holes again!

Got me on that one, was getting right into the story when the neighbour tried....then the punchline! Good one!

Not a worry and not a waste of time. Like most here I'm glad to get my 2 cents worth in. Best of luck and 2 thumbs up for making a decision.

West Arm Rider Nailed it! Never be afraid of a little adventure into the unknown. Some times great things can happen. Remember it;'s easier to be a big fish in a small pond. Congrats on the new job!

Yes, I do agree! Especially my wallet. Not only that but it was cash, cheque or debit. Didn't see the writing on the countertop as I was leaning on it when I took it in. NO CREDIT CARDS.

Just cost me 300, actually just under 300 with tax, to get my 2 stroke carb cleaned out. That included putting my fuel pump back together as well and a spring I lost from the pump. His labour rate was 85 an hour.

I never took it that way before!

Wonder what the daily limit for shark is in Ontario? Cllues in the picture give it away as a fake. Look atthe water depth along the barricades and the photogtaphers side view mirror is in the pic. Don't think he would be driving in water deep enough for that size of shark to swim in, non the less it's a great picture and gets the imagination working.

Need advice on what to look for when buying a used boat
pikehunter replied to Capt.Canuck's topic in General Discussion
Good idea, at least in theory, most places right now have a one or even two week wait to get a motor looked at. If you've hooked onto a deal it will be sold to the next buyer by then. -
UH HUH. I am simply amazed at what hourly rates are anymore, for any trade. Sorry, but even 80 bucks sounds like a lot to me, especially if it's out of my pocket.

Most of the threads around here always said that you didn't need to pay tax on the boat portion of a transaction, just do the registration. The trailer part of a combination would have a tax payable upon registration. I am now confused too. Sorry I am of no help.

Been there done that. Usually hang onto stuff...just in case. Though sometimes I get ambitious, or stupid you might call it, and do a shop cleaning. I cannot believe how many small pieces of trim get returned to the Home Depot...couple days ago I look at a return cart and there it was, a 1 foot piece of primed 1/4 round...something like .49 cents ! Other times 2 feet of this or 3 feet of that. I would have never ever thought anyone would return trim or even a 2x4 until my stint at the H.D. Keep it! Ya never know! I needed sme 3/4" cove one day, guess what I found a piece, had it for about 15 years, but I had it, and it was even mahogony! Can't even buy that species anymore! Nice canoe rack Wayne.

I think you can still rent paddleboats at Valens and fish around the island. Christie has several stocked ponds, call them first to find out the last time they stocked them. Very light line, small hook, corn, worms and waxworms. Or save the admission fees and go down to Pier 4 Park or Bayfront Park in Hamilton and he may have a lot of fun there too. Lots of comfortable shoreline spots at Bayfront with shade and picnic tables.

Very large shoes for sure. When I listened to his resignation live on the radio I could not get over how much his health had changed and how quickly. I think all of us knew that what was next feeling his pain and suffering as he spoke. Damn good leader and a fine person, I wish for his ideals to proliferate. He is a character that will go on to live forever in Canadian history.

That, is a lot of hard work and dedication! I am astounded It has been a good many years since I have seen so many home made canned goods. I remember my mother and father spending hours in the kitchen doing just what you did. Funny how when a kid I became accustomed to home canning and took it for granted, the beats, cucumbers and tomatoes...nothing like canned tomatoes, years later mom would freeze them, easier, but not anywhere near the same. Went to my wife's friends brother's farm one time years ago. We ended up filling the trunk of my '76 Royal Monaco with pears, all free. Went to mom and dad's and broke out the canning jars. We spent hours preparing them, they were fantastic! Didn't like store bought canned pears before that and still don't, the home canned were fantastic! For quality and knowing where your food comes from home preparation is a must. Especialy these days. All the grocery store canned fruit are coming from China and many brands of pickles now come from India... neither I will buy. However Bick's still come from Dunnville ON. Thanks for posting your pictures and the memories.

Oh boy, did I ever pass up a deal. NOT! NF

My parents got caught in a gas door to door scam a few years ago. They didn't even realize it! One day my mothers asks me what does this mean on my bill? I looked at it and said you're on a plan from a private company and the rest of your bill is to the gas company. You're paying more than I am for gas! They could not remember signing a contract with anyone but did remember a guy at the door who asked for their gas bill. He must have copied their name address and whatever else he needed and they were screwed. I called them to enquire but got nowhere, then called union gas and was told to call them back and ask them to produce a copy of a contract within 2 weeks. Did that and did not get a copy, no surprise. Called them up, spoke with the person I had previously contacted and told them to cancel the deal as they did not have a contract to provide gas and that was that. So if anyone asks you for your gas or hydro bill so they can compare don't do it. This guy forged a deal and they were paying for an entire contract term and then it went into automatic renewal. That's when I caught it because my mother finaly took notice and didn't understand who this other party was and why the cost per metre3 was so high. Yep they prey on the elderly. -
Bought the blue one at Dunnville CT, on sale this week, look at their flyer. It was in the auto additive section next to the red.

Used to go there many years ago as it was stocked with trout in the spring...and it was free. Wife and I walked in there one opening weekend way back when. It was crowded, had to squeeze in near a gang who were on a days picknic/bbq and fishing. We weren't in their back pocket or anywhere near that close. Asked how things were, answer was not a bight or nibble all morning. My wife tosses her line in with a piece of canned corn on the hook and soon as the bail was set BAM. She landed a nice size trout! Man were they ever pissed!

Hope you had a change of underwear! Glad to hear that they are at least on the job. I do agree that the time setting up and waiting could maybe have been better invested, but I guess it probably pays off for them in most cases. Who would ever expect an ambush on a remote lake? And yes I'd be ticked off to learn I had spent a small fortune to fly into a lake that was they drove into!

A trip for sure with memories for life. Great pictures! Love the "Tip" sign, It's about the same size as the boat! Good thing too, if the mother ship was going down you could always use it for a life boat!
