John Bacon replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
In fairness, that is not one of the creeks that has been stocked with Atlantics. -
I pulled these figures off another site. I was impressed with the coho numbers. Chinook: 8,242 Coho: 1,502 Brown: 251 Rainbow: 350 Atlantic: 5 Grand Total: 10,350

If I remember correctly, anyone found in the woods with a firearm was deemed to be hunting. Would this apply to an air pistol?

Is there a difference in the quality of shots? Are the Leafs waiting for good opportunities to score before shooting while their opponents fire away from a bad location? If so, this could account for them scoring more goals with fewer shots.

The Furniture Business A furniture dealer from Knoxville, Tennessee, decided that he wanted to expand the line of furniture in his store, so he decided to go to Paris, France to see what he could find. After arriving in Paris (this being his first trip to the French capitol), he met with some manufacturers and finally selected a line that he thought would sell well back home in Tennessee. To celebrate the new acquisition, he decided to visit a small bistro and have a glass of wine. As he sat enjoying his wine, he noticed that the small place was quite crowded, and that the one other chair at his table was the only vacant seat in the house. Before long, a very beautiful young Parisian woman came to his table, asked him something in French (which he did not understand), and motioned toward the chair. He invited her to sit down. He tried to speak to her in English, but she did not speak his language so, after a couple of minutes of trying to communicate with her, he took a napkin and drew a picture of a wine glass and showed it her. She nodded, and he ordered a glass of wine for her. After sitting together at the table for a while, he took another napkin, and drew a picture of a plate with food on it, and she nodded. They left the bistro and found a quiet cafe that featured a small group playing romantic music. They ordered dinner, after which he took another napkin and drew a picture of a couple dancing. She nodded, and they got up to dance. They danced until the cafe closed and the band was packing up. Back at their table, the young lady took a napkin and drew a picture of a four-poster bed. To this day, he has no idea how she figured out he was in the furniture business.

In fairness, Canadians use the same jokes as Americans. We just use 'newfie' instead of ethnic groups.

Regardless of the intended use of the structure, he built it without a permit. Isn't that sufficient reason to tear it down?

My niece's class assignment was to interview a senior citizen. She asked me, "What was the biggest historical event that happened during your life?" "Easy," I replied. "The moonwalk." She looked disappointed. "That dance was that important to you?"

The Toronto meeting should be good. I was at the Pickering meeting today. We ended up talking a lot about Frenchman's Bay. However, they also had quite a bit about the down town area. There has been a lot of studying being down in that area. I think they tailor the sessions somewhat to the location. There should be an interesting discussion if you get a good turn out. I think they have more info about that area.

Good point about age of a 'new tire'. My tires show 2011 which is the year I bought them from Canadian Tire. My 8.5 year old spare does not have any cracks. Obviously CTC should not be selling 3+ plus year old tires as new. However, I wouldn't expect those issues even if the tire was a few years old; at least not if it is stored indoors. Unless those tires are much more than 5 years old, or stored in extreme conditions, I would think the problem was more to do with a manufacturing defect than the age of the tire.

Yes, any cop can lay fisheries related charges. They usually only charge for fishing without a licence because they are not trained for enforcing the fisheries act. However, they can charge for other fisheries related offenses too.

And they don't send reminders anymore. Make sure you check to see if your card is expiring this year.

Question regarding 2013 and 2014 fishing lic.
John Bacon replied to pidge's topic in General Discussion
I remember when they first brought dinged us with the $6/card charge... It occurred when they went from paper to plastic cards. We were told that the charge was to pay for a more efficient system??? It the system is more efficient, why do we have to pay extra for it? -
There will also be a meeting in down town Toronto next week. Tuesday October 29, 2013 Metro Hall, Room 308 and 309 55 John Street, Toronto, Ontario M5V 3C6 Doors open at 6:30 PM, presentation starts at 7:00 PM meeting to conclude at 9:00 PM.

Mileage alone is not a good determining factor for break wear. Obviously, stop and go city traffic is going to wear your breaks faster than the equivalent mileage on the highway. Towing or driving with a heavy load will wear the brakes faster. Driving off road and getting your breaks dirty can cause them to wear quicker. An aggressive driver will go through breaks faster... It would be an over simplification to compare the experience of one person with 2wd against one with 4wd without taking city vs highway, on road vs off road, towing and heavy loads, and driving habits into consideration.

If you are in the eastern GTA I would contact Boat Tech in Pickering. They may be able to help.

Canadian Tire always seems to have a 4 tires for the price of 3 deal going. The deal seems to be on-going, but the specific tires that it is offered on change from week to week. If you can afford to wait a bit, then I would just keep checking with Canadian Tire until the have a 4 for 3 deal on one of the tires that will suit your needs.

Maybe adding a front mount trolling motor
John Bacon replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
You should be able to get more than three years from a battery. Keep them charged and check the water levels. Distilled water is best if they need to be topped up; but tap or lake water is probably better than not have adequate water levels. The sooner you can charge them after using them the better. -
Maybe adding a front mount trolling motor
John Bacon replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
I assume that you mean the ones that attach to your cavitation plate. A rear mounted motor will not give you as good of control as a bow mount. I think that a cavitation plate mounted motor would give you even less control than a transom mount. -
I don't think there are any more new Johnson's as the brand has been discontinued. If any of your friends have a four stroke Johnson, then they are running a Suzuki.

I believe that it more like 1 knot = 1.15 mph... but it has been close to 30 years since I took my navigation course in college. I had the same issue with my gas gauge, but with a smaller boat. I thought it was broken because it always showed full even after trolling for several hours. Fishing 12 miles off shore or taking the kids tubing for a couple of hours will drop the gauge below the full level.

Obtaining Roe...tough to do it properly...
John Bacon replied to Familyfisherman's topic in General Discussion
New York state is no longer clipping the fish that they stock. Since the purpose of clipping the fish was to be able to identify stocked versus wild fish, there was no point in clipping only the Ontario stocked Chinooks. Also, most of the clipping was done with the automated stocking trailer owned by New York state. This trailer was no longer going to be available. There was no point in Ontario manually clipping ~540,000 Chinook if the U.S. was going to be stocking in excess of a million unclipped Chinook each year. So far, there has been no reduction in the number of Chinook stocked on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. The annual target remains at 540,000 fish per year. Cohos have not been stocked by the MNR for many years. The MEA stocks the cohos and they are not clipped. I don't believe that MNR was clipping the cohos when were stocking them. There were a few years were cohos were not stocked and it took a great deal of effort to find enough fish to provide eggs for the hatchery. They are recovering now that stocking has been going on for a few years now. They were definitely not doing well enough to sustain a fishery without stocking. I have not seen any official results of any studies done on clipped versus unclipped Chinooks in Lake Ontario. Based on anecdotal evidence, I would say it has been about 50/50 wild versus stocked.
