Transom mount trolling motor cable extension
John Bacon replied to Hooked's topic in General Discussion
If you are running a 12 volt motor the general rule is 1 amp per pound of thrust. 14ga wire is rated for 15 amps. I wouldn't chance running a motor on 14 gauge wire. -
Transom mount trolling motor cable extension

Check the gauge. Some of the cheaper cables are as small as 12 gauge which is pretty light for an electric motor. -
I have a few North Ontario French co-workers... they claim that Quebecois don't know how to speak french.

A sad sight on our trip, warning, graphic pictures of dead turtle

I think it is legal to harvest them. I don't think that it is legal to chop their heads off and leave them. -
We may have a new water management plan for lake Ontario Water levels. http://metronews.ca/news/toronto/751428/new-water-management-plan-could-have-lake-ontario-rising-and-falling-dramatically/ A new system of water management that will mimic the natural seasonal levels of Lake Ontario could win approval next year, but property owners on the shoreline say the plan could ruin thousands of homes. After a five-year, $20-million study and $360,000 in public and technical hearings, the International Joint Commission — a Canada-U.S. body that manages shared waters such as the Great Lakes — is poised to recommend the plan to federal authorities. The current lake-management system aims to keep lake levels within a 1.2-metre range, depending on the time of year. The new system would mean there will be both higher and lower water levels than now. But that means homes on the shoreline will face an increase in erosion and risk of flooding. Conservation Ontario and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority have given the plan their blessing. But property owners are worried their homes, sewer systems and flood-insurance premiums will suffer under the new plan, says Dan Barletta, a member of the Lake Ontario Riparian Alliance. “This plan is awful,” he said at a recent hearing organized by the IJC. “It is beyond imagination that you are considering it.” Bluffer’s Park marina owner Ross Merikallio says he isn’t holding his breath about the new plan. When it comes to water management, he says waiting for change is “like waiting for the Scarborough subway.”

Good tip about the fishing line. I never would have thought of that. However, I don't think it would matter which airline you are traveling with. The airlines do not have anything to do with security; you go through the same security check point regardless of airline which airline you are traveling with. Any difference in treatment would come down to the individual security person checking your bag. That person may, or may not consider the possibility of tying someone up with fishing line. Perhaps that one read Fifty Shades of Grey

For my son's first reel, I purchased him a closed face spinning real that was designed to fit underneath the rod like an open face reel. It had a trigger instead of a push button. He can still use the same rod when he is ready to move up to an open face reel. I never even bothered buying him his own rod, I just let him use one of my spinning rods. But an ugly stick would be a good choice do price and durability. There are some examples of the reels I am referring too in this link. http://www.shopping.com/trigger%20spin%20reels/products?sb=1&linkin_id=8075571&ef_id=aaVPK1ukihoAAMzn:20130729034230:s

I don't think that you can bring the rods as carry on. There are specific dimensions for carry on luggage and rods, even too piece ones, would be too long. You will need to check them. Just use a good quality rod holder (one that can take some punishment), or some ABS pipe. You are probably okay taking your reels in the carry on. However, I would call ahead first just to be sure. I cannot think of any reason why you couldn't bring your reels in your carry on; but I would really hate to told that I cannot bring my reels in my carry on after I have already checked my luggage. If you arrive early enough, you could always check your 'carry on' bag if for some strange reason they won't allow them. Make sure you give your self some time.

The boat looks like fiber glass in the picture. You cannot use a shoot through the hull transducer in an aluminum boat.

Confirmed - Cabela's To Open Store in Barrie by Summer 2014

Where did you see this? I didn't find it with a Google search. -
Nobody said anything about one person winning two prizes for one fish. I am not sure where you are getting that from. The discussion was about whether the second largest fish of the week would win the weekly grand prize if the largest fish of that week turned out to be the largest fish of the derby. The second largest fish would still only be second place; but the winner for that week would get a nicer truck than the other weekly winners.
-
I have posted the relevant rules below. I would say my original statement is correct. Based on the rules below I don't see the 2nd biggest fish of the week getting a weekly prize. There are 7 vehicles awarded in a seven week tournament. Your interpretation would require 8 vehicles to be awarded in a 7 week tournament. 1.Great Grand Prize. There will be one Great Grand Prize awarded to the participant who enters the heaviest salmon overall in the tournament. 1a. Grand Prize. There will be six Grand Prizes awarded to the participant who enters the heaviest salmon in each of the six remaining weeks of the Tournament. The winner will be ineligible to win any other major prize.
-
Yeah, especially if you want to take someone out for one day.
-
It doesn't work that way any more. You have to catch the biggest fish of the week to get the weekly prize. The tournament is 7 weeks long and 7 vehicles are awarded as prizes. So the 38 pounder would still only be second place regardless of whether the 40 pounder holds. That has still got to hurt though.

A little tip for those that dont have A/C..
John Bacon replied to dhickey's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, but I assume that the basement would be warmer though? I would see the basement floor level cold air returns as a compromise then. It will increase heating cost but all three floors will be comfortable then. Those who use space heaters to keep their basements comfortable aren't really saving anything. I have another HVAC question. I usually tape my basement air vents in the summer in theory that I am saving by not air conditioning the basement. Is this a good idea; or, should I just leave them? -

If you use your basement than would it make sense to do this all year? I have always wondered why they aren't designed this way to begin with. Can any HVAC people let me know if I am missing something here. -
I think the city put up some no fishing signs a while back but too them down after the public out cry. There are places to shore fish; there may be some places that are off limits.

I think $15 seems to be the going rate at most places; I don't think that I have ever paid much more than that; $45 is outrageous. I can usually find free launches. I think Bluffers is $15 they have two concrete launches each wide enough to launch two boats side by side; plenty of parking and docks.

I have caught flies while fishing (not fly fishing though). They landed on my spool and got wrapped up in line when I reeled in... happened twice. I caught a half digested dead perch once. I figure it must have been in the throat of another fish that hit and got away leaving the perch behind. I did feel a definite hit so I didn't just snag it off the bottom. I have also caught snails, rocks, fishing lures, anchors, etc. I had double header with a large mouth and a small mouth on a Rat'l Spot. I almost had a salmon on two rods earlier this year. I hooked in on an inline planer board. I reeled in right up to the boat before it broke my line, the line tangle on my dipsy rod and I was able reel right back to the boat before it finally got free.

The bars on a muskie are darker than the back ground colour. Pike on the other had have light markings on a dark back ground. The fish in the picture has light markings on a dark back ground which would rule out muskie and tiger muskie. Juvenile pike often have bars instead of spots. I am still going with pike.
-
Well, was it worth it?
-
I don't find any of those names to be strange. I do find RedBlacks to be a strange name; I highly doubt that it will grow on me.
-
I would say pike because it has light coloured markings on a dark back ground. Both pure muskies and tiger muskies have dark coloured markings on a light back ground. Pike have light markings on a dark background.

I assume that you are referring to a white perch. From what I understand, despite their name they are a member of the sunfish/bass family; not the perch family. However, they are still a different species than a white bass.
