  1. My home town Cobourg, Everything is just a couple of hours away. I can go fishing for Walleyes in less than 15 minutes. I can go for trophy Walleye, trophy Pike, trophy Rainbow, trophy Muskie, trophy Salmon, trophy Perch and trophy Gar in less than 3 hours. Oh ya, there is malls close by, and Super malls within 45 minutes as well. Forgot to add, where else can you live and be able to fish ALL of Southern Ontario within 5 hours? Where else can you live where you can fish most of Central Ontario within 5 hours?

  3. Well, Muskies Canada is working on the RESTORATION of Muskies in Lake Simcoe, not restocking of Simcoe. There was a time when Muskie flourished very well in Simcoe but to over harvest and habitat loss the population has declined. MCI along with several other clubs, organizations, Colleges and government have been working together to reconstruct the sustainable population. In order to have a project like this get approved, there is protocol which has to be followed, I am sure Marc would know about this as he was one of the guys who first started this Simcoe Project. I am just glad he was involved in such an early stage with his knowledge, chances are the project wouldn’t be where it is today. Yes, I agree the project has been in the working for several years now. If this project was strictly a stocking project, it would have been successful long ago. MCI and others are interested in restoring with a strain of muskie that are not genetically altered. We are interested in seeing a viable population that will end up being a self sustaining population. Some of the stocking programs in other areas are just that, a stocking program for PUT GROW and TAKE. But this project is a restoration project, hence there has been some habitat restoration in some areas . There will be more habitat restoration to come. MCI is taking this project as one of it’s largest projects ever. There is a lot at stake here. Reintroduction of close to or probably over 2000 (the actual numbers have not been released at this time) muskie is just a start. There has been a moratorium on fishing for muskie on Simcoe and Couch until the year 2010 where a futher extension may be applied if deems necessary. This will reduce the angling pressure until such a time where this project is either a success or a downfall. We are hoping to start our habitat restoration in other various areas of Simcoe starting in the Spring of 08, any volunteers who wish to help out? Perhaps this FACT SHEET will help everyone understand more of this project as well. http://www.muskiescanada.ca/articles/lake_...ion_project.htm An update of the project. http://www.muskiescanada.ca/articles/lsmrp_oct292007.doc As for the MNR using these funds to to pay for gas in their trucks, it is not their money. This is not what the money was raised for. This is a separate entity from which people like yourself have helped raise funds for. (Remember the St. Croix rod I won from Mr. JR? Then in turn I raffled it back off to raise funds for the LSMRP, (Joey won the rod btw). I am certain there will be comments like “why don’t they spend the money on the walleye fisheries or why not contribute the money towards the Whitefish and Lake Trout PGT?” Well if I was a member of their club and that is what the funds were set out to be used for, I would support it 100 percent as well. This money was raised for the interest of Muskie in all of Canada, which I am proud to be a member of. There are many different types of people in life, some have opinions and do nothing, some have opinions and talk about doing something, some have opinions and say “we” yet they are never around when the work needs to be done. Then there are the others who have opinions and get involved.
  4. Great thinking Wayne. I do some what similar..... I always have a bottle of wind shield washer fluid in the truck with me. Once I pull the boat out of the water, I pour some into each live well. I haven't had a problem yet either. Also, I can still use the live well if need be. (makes for a great urinal in the real cold days).
  5. Congrats Dude! Another keeper!
  6. You got me all chocked up Gerritt. I for one can only imagine what you are going through. GOD Bless brother.
  7. Accuracy counts more than grains, in my books. A 180 grain will still stop a moose in it's tracks. Better than a 220 grain planted in the wrong killing zone. (just my opinion). Have a great trip TJ, looking forward to the trip yet???
  8. What is it with you and marker bouys??? ( monster pike comes to mind).... Good on ya bud, nice smallie!
  9. Now that is just some incredible fishing! It almost seemed like it was going to be another one of those days Marc and Steve Bedarf had! I can relate to having days with numbers put in the boat but can only imagine the days of putting numbers of BIG fish in the boat! Well done to the both, no, three, no, 5 of you!!! Dano, congrats on your personal best, truly a trip you will soon not forget! (I'll shoot you off another PM seeing as how I read what you have been up to lately now!) Irishfield, and you want to know what the membership fee is for the 50 inch club = HA HA HA!!! Good on ya bud, couldn't think of a nicer guy to be in it! Again, truly a trip you will soon not to forget! Marc, my hats off to you bud, you really know your stuff. Only have met you a couple of times and for short periods at that, you never cease to amaze me! The knowledge you have on these fine specimens called muskie, is second to none! I sometimes think you sleep with them just to get on their good side! LOL Roy and who I have never met "J", every time I hear of someone heading down your way, I read the thread on how great of a time they have had. Can you say as you would blame them! Great hospitality and friendships like that are a tough to beat! I am certain you completed Dan and Wayne's fishing trip, even if they only caught a few shakers! Now THAT"S a trip of a lifetime!
  10. Looking forward to the report Wayne!

  12. Nice to see Lew. It just makes for a spectacular day.
  13. I agree to the wash/inspection stations as well, but this shouldn't fall on the Provincial Ministry of Natural Resources. This should fall on the Federal Government. After all, they are the ones who are allowing the invasive species to enter in the first place. If the Federal Government would control the ballast water on the vessels entering the St. Lawrence, we wouldn't have invasive species to begin with.
  14. Hey Sinker, I don't recall ever having a problem deploying that unit. Same as the new one I bought, my buddy had the same issue as you, difficult to deploy. I gave him a quick lesson on "how to"..... When you pull back on the unlock handle, pull with a steady force towards the head of the trolling motor, this will tilt the angle of the power drive motor slightly. With your left hand, prop you fore arm inside your left knee. Squeeze your left knee towards the drive motor. It will come out with ease this way.
  15. I use a product called "Dri Film". I get it from Home Hardware. It's a silicone spray, goes on wet drys clear. Armour All would work too.
  16. Have a great time Kelvin! I am off to Nippising this weekend or I would have tried to meet up with you on Pigeon. I guess second choice can be to fish with Dax, but you know how that will end up..... grin.....
  17. As you said Wayne, laugh about it now.... Man, I'd still be dumping bricks. Everything else is just money, the kids are ireplaceable. Glad to hear a happy ending bud.

Congratulations Mrs Kirk! you too Kirk.
  19. Hello all, I recently received this email and thought I would forward it along to others, I hope you find the info useful. Cheers, Ron... Folks, This email is intended to bring you up to speed on two items: 1) the carp situation; and 2) VHS Surveillance monitoring. Carp The results from most of the fish tested at the UofGuelph and the Federal abs are in. The only pathogen these fish tested positive for is the bacteria that causes columnaris. No viruses were found. We believe columnaris, in concert with a variety of stressors (temperature, spawning, etc.) is the primary cause of the die-offs. I have attached a fact sheet about columnaris FYI. Here are some additional points: . Testing by the University of Guelph Fish Health Lab and the Fisheries and Oceans Canada lab has been completed for most of the carp submitted from the Kawartha Lakes this summer. · The tests results indicate the bacteria Columnaris to be the primary cause of death in the fish die-offs. There were no viruses or other diseases found in the carp. · Columnaris, a disease of fresh water fish, is caused by bacteria that lives naturally in water and mud. · Columnaris has been associated with fish die-offs in the past, eg in channel catfish in the Ottawa River, 2006. It does not pose a threat to human health however it is still a good idea to wear gloves if handling dead fish. · Large die-offs can occur when fish are under some type of stress and unable to fight off a disease. Stress in fish can be caused by high water temperatures, low levels of oxygen in the water, crowding such as occurs during spawning, or a combination of these factors. Bacteria like Columnaris can grow rapidly in these conditions and fish may become sick and die. · Outbreaks of Columnaris do occur from time to time in the wild, and are almost impossible to prevent or treat. · MNR has not documented any new locations of carp die off throughout the month of August within the Kawartha Lakes. MNR staff have been on Rice Lake over the last two weeks (and will be again this week) and have not observed any sick or dead carp. · We have public information sessions scheduled for Wednesday August 29th in Coboconk (3:00pm) and Bobcaygeon (7:00pm). Feel free to attend, I believe I have already shared some of the details. VHS Regarding our VHS surveillance monitoring the good news is that samples from local lakes came back negative for VHS. Some positive tests did occur in other areas of Ontario. Please see the attached news release. Feel free to pass along any questions on either of the above items. Regards, On the MCI website, I have posted the PDF files, under "From the MNR"
  20. Here is the link to that info quoted above: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/fishing/fmz/pdf/M...nge_toolkit.pdf As stated, it claims it is legal to fish with a consevation licence, I'm all for that. Also mentioned though, why go through the hassels like many have on this board. I have the "total kill" er ah Sportmans licence just to save the headaches.
  21. This is the email I received from Dan Taillon Folks, We have received some preliminary results from the Guelph Lab: Testing to date at the University of Guelph has not identified a clear cause for the carp die-offs. First round of test results did identify columnaris bacteria in the carp samples from Sturgeon Lake. Columnaris bacteria have been associated with fish die-off's. However, further tests are being conducted at the University of Guelph to try and determine whether other causes may have affected the fish. Based on these preliminary findings at the University of Guelph lab, MNR is also discussing with the Federal government the possibility of testing some of the samples at one of their Federal labs. Columnaris does not pose a threat to human health. Wear gloves if handling dead fish. Some brief info about Columnaris: Columnaris is caused by the bacterium Flavobacterium columnare. The disease is prevalent worldwide in freshwater fish. The reservoir for F. columnare is presently unclear, though many flavobacteria live in water and mud Flavobacteria are also known to occur on the bodies of fish, especially the gill area. Epidemics are associated with some type of stress condition such as low dissolved oxygen, crowding such as would occur during spawning and warm water temperatures. Columnaris rarely occurs at water temperatures less than 13ºC; above 18°C its onset can be sudden and its progression rapid. Bacteria may enter the fish through the gills or broken skin and under poor conditions massive losses can occur one or two days post infection At this point there are no practical methods for controlling the spread of columnaris when it is present in a wild fish population in a given body of water.
  22. I will be at Panorama Camp on the 13 - 15 of July if that helps. I am picking up my buddy who is only 20 minutes away from BPS, he can pick them up during the week. I can pay for them and then just give you the change for the 200 in BPS bucks. The web site says these 38-868-220-40 are low instock. You may want to call in advance and reserve them which ever route you go.
  23. Oh sure! Get on here late in the night and this is what I end up with! We're Sorry You have requested a page that is not currently available due to data transfer restrictions. If the page you requested is yours, click here for more information. Hum ho, I will have to wait until the end of the month now..... Looking forward to it Marc!
