Natural Selection Gives Way to Human Selection
Ron replied to wallacio's topic in General Discussion
Another theory you can add to this equation is: If the largest of the species are harvested, the successors of the breed are maturing at a much younger age therefore creating no competition for "survival of the fittest". -
:clapping: If that don't work, assuming it's a 2 stage blower. With the engine turned off, leave in gear. Start it on the ramps and engage the clutch (left hand lever on my model) lightly to create drag and if you want press firmly on the lever and it will stop dead on the ramp.

Dang Ron, that's a shame we didn't bump into you two. Haven't seen you or cupcake for a long spell now. How about a PM next time you're heading up there bud, we'll come knocking Joey Will do Joey, hitting Quinte this weekend, first time in years. What I said to Joey Hey Wayne, it was a misunderstanding on my part. I thought you guys were down for the weekend, not just for the day. I called Lloyd up to see where you guys were going for diner and I was gonna meet up with you and Terry then. my bad, I fell like an

You were so close to us Sunday, you could have hit us with a snowball! Never you guys were out there, nor did you know we were. That is Cupcakes blue clam over your shoulder. My hut is hidden by your beautiful mug.

Did this truck go through the ice in the Kawarthas? I think not.

Looks like Holiday Pines to me. If it is, that is the mouth of the rive on the East end of Rice Lake. We used to have a cottage there, (Ashphedol Park). We went knee boarding on New Years Day a few moons ago in that area.

I know someone who was proudly showing off his new digital camera when it slipped out of his hands and bounced on the floor of the ice bungaloo until it found the hole. Man, I wished I had the camera in my hand when that happened! The look on his face was priceless! The best part though was, talking about it the next morning to the other guys how Roy lost his brand new camera down that (pointing) hole when out of the corner of my eye, I see the camera just underneath the hut. Somehow it managed to hit the side of the hut hole and bounced up onto the ice! Lucky man! Buddy lost his rod on a fish, I set the hook on a fish about 15 minutes later, land a 5-6 lb walleye with a second lure in it's yap. Line was still attached and pulled in my buddy's rod. The weird part was he wanted to claim the fish because he hooked into it first! ha ha ha

Good to see you guys again. Short lived though as we decided to move to another area. Seemed like the fish were there, only they weren't interseted in biting. On our other spot I managed to put 1 laker, 2 white fish, 1 walleye and a rock bass on the ice. We stayed out for the night bite but only got one more whitie.

I may just see you guys on Friday!

Sorry I can't resist..... And people think BPS service is terrible! ha ha ha

Tough thing to swallow Tom. So sorry to hear.

I have always enjoyed my experience there. Sure they may be out of stock on items, but if you buy your stuff a season in advance, just like any store, it's in stock then. I have always found the prices reasonable. Living an hour East of TO. I still get up there about once every month or 2. I already stocked up on my ice fishing gear....back in November. Come February, I'll be replenishing my pan fishing gear for open water in the Spring. March or April I will be in there again looking to see what they got for that "must have" Muskie tackle and such. Prices are great as far as I'm concerned, I don't need to go around to a kazillion stores to save a buck on this and that. As for supporting my local tackle shops... an hour East of Toronto doesn't have any local tackle shops. The best reason for visiting BPS though is to see guys like Roger, just like any business, there are guys who enjoy going to work, who love their job. The fishing department certainly has enough of these guys.

Nice! but the personalized name is wrong, shouldn't it be "Big Chief"? (Don't make me dig out the picture Paul)..... ha ha ha Cheers, Ron...

In my neck of the woods, I had to order mine through Rona. They can special order that no problem.

who uses a fish finder/flasher for ice fishing?
Ron replied to Handlebarz's topic in General Discussion
Hey Mike, I used the X 135 from my boat, works awesome/ What I like about it mostly is you don't get "Vex eyes". It's nice to be able to take your eyes off the screen, better yet, I can set the alarm on it and have a siesta and let the fish tell me when it's time to get up! -
Where and what is Hirks? I live in Cobourg and haven't heard of this place.

We've been asking the MNR this for years. They have been working on an answer for the same amount of time. We are hopeing to get it open for Pan fishing in 2010. It is the only area in Ontario other than Algonquin Park that is closed to ice fishing.

FYI -- portables now exempt from registration and ice hut removal dates.

Just don't let it happen again Sonny! It's never a bad thing to see this sort of stuff posted twice or even trice for that matter. -

Love the game! I remember the first time I played against my neighbour. He said "You know, I've only lost playing crib once in my life, and even then the guy cheated!" ha ha ha, I'll never forget that from his voice, may he rest in peace.

There's talk about doing a combo trip Dan. Brookies and then Mooskies on LOTW.

"Ice for your Seizure? 1 chip or 2?" ha ha ha... Steve, this is my 25 yr volunteering with various projects with the OMNR. It all started out helping with the Rainbow trout fish lift in Cobourg and at the Fish Ladder on the Ganny in Port Hope. My latest vounteer work is standing on the Advisory Council with FMZ 17 and starting up a new Chapter of Muskies Canada for the Kawarthas. I don't fish often for trout anymore, seems like I have taken on a keen interest on my Muskie now. Some times I get so involved, I loose time to fish itself. At least it's still fishing related, something that is interesting and definitely FUN!~ Cupcake, er ah TEP has moved closer my way. We have gotten out fishing a few times this year, not as much as we would have liked, but still. Probably talk to him every other day at least. Still full of shats and giggles he is.

Great question Nemo. They had done numerous habitat studies on Lake Simcoe and found several area which met the criteria. These are around the whole lake. They are still working on other areas that have potential as well. It is awesome to see these guys in action. I have participated in the harvest of eggs for this project and it was definitely a great experience. Picture this, Cabin Fever for a couple of months, Muskis doesn't open til June, going out and getting slimed by a Muskie for the sake of research in Late April - early May.... ahhhh the good times..... My hats off to you and anyone else who has participated in putting something back into the fishery. A little effort can go a long ways to the future of our populations. I got some of the pictures on my computer showing canabilism, I will see if I can dig them up. I had made arrangements for Muskies Canada members to have a tour of the facilities a number of weeks back. Those who attended thought it was incredible to see how "simple" of a project it was to rear these fish. The facility in my eyes, was set up like a back yard mechanic. Anyone can do this so long as you have an unlimited amount of spare time on your hands. This rearing facility is located at the Sir Sanford Fleming Collage, Frost Campus in Lindsay. All but a few fish are left in the facility now. At my last correspondence, there were only the Muskie left in the facility for Wisconsin. (Still waiting on results in regards to VHS/cross border transportation of live fish.) To be honest, I don't know if the general public are able to have a tour of the facility. Because Muskies Canada are part of the Stake Holders, I know we were able to attend.
