  1. Whitefish a la Beans Scale, gut, remove gills, (head on/off, your choice) score the body on both sides (about 1/2 inch deep cuts) lay on foil wrap sprayed with PAM... In a bowl mix: 1 tbs minced or finely chopped fresh garlic 1 tbs minced or finely chopped fresh ginger 2 tbs soy sauce 2 tbs oyster flavoured sauce 1/2 tsp Chinese five spices 1 or 2 tbs peanut or vegetable oil a splash of white table wine a dash of sriracha hot sauce (optional) Put the Foil/fish in a baking dish and spread the above mixture over the fish...Wrap the foil around the fish and bake or BBQ in a hot oven 400 * F for about 25 minutes...check for doneness (it flakes easily using a fork) giving it more time if needed... Spread some chopped green onion and sprinkle some sesame oil over fish then serve with hot cooked rice and veggie of your choice...I likes it with bok choy or snow peas or green peppers... If you are concerned about the bones...this works well with fillets...
  2. I did my first icefishing trip there at the age of twelve (I'm 77 yrs old now... ) Picked up $0.25 cents worth of pinhead minnows at Skinner"s (downtown Toronto) the day before, a bus ride out Hwy 2, a long walk down to and out on the bay, Chop a hole with a hatchet and usually get a feed of jumbo perch using a hand line with hook, sinker and a float...later on we made tip-ups and fashioned a spud... Built a fire on the ice using driftwood we found along the shore of Lake Ontario...mainly to thaw our g'weeches... Ahh...memories !!!
  3. Hey Cliff...Make sure (like the signs say on the way in) shuffle your feet while wading...I didn't and got stung by a stingray...OUCH !!! Have fun my friend...
  4. Reminds me of a time back in the late '60s...a couple of guys asked us to keep an eye on their tent out on Lady Simcoe while they took their morning catch in to the local grocery store to sell...$0.45 a lb. for whitefish and $0.39 a lb for herring (the 2 lb size -sand herring?) We heard a loud bang and when we looked there was steam pouring from the tent...seems they left a tin of Habitant vegetable soup (unopened) on the stove...looked like someone had barfed all over the inside...LOL
  5. I've been through the above with former vehicles Wayne and somehow they magically passed the second test...makes one wonder if the repairs were really needed at all or is it a scam !!! It's about scrap time anyways...I keep hoping I don't get stopped by John Law...The truck body is in bad shape (mine too)...
  6. If it fails.. and then fails the second time after spending the max amount of specified repairs... then your conditional pass is good for a year just like it is when you pass an emission test. But with tests only required every 2 years... you'll be good for two. Thanks Wayne...I don't want to spend any monies on repairs...I guess I was confused...(It's me age - don't you know)...I thought if it failed I could get the conditional pass...Oh well...I'l just have to learn to do without wheels unless the wife is kind enough to lend me hers (I pay her insurance)...
  7. You da man Terry...I guess I was asking too much in my search...LOL
  8. I've tried a search for "emissions tests" and/or "temporary vehicle license" to no avail... There was a thread on these topics a short while ago ??? I just received my licence renewal for my 1995 Ford 150 truck and was thinking I will scrap her if she don't pass the emission test (old type test not the new one on the computer)...However, that would leave me without a ride in April for the spring crappie season and in May to September for carp... What I am searching for is how do I obtain a temporary license (if needed) and how long is it good for? Any help will be appreciated...
  9. Great news Wayne... She sure knocks the crap outa my "poor me's"... You are a real inspiration Jen !...

  11. Not sure if there is parking at Goreskies (a short ways up the road from hwy 7A to the casino on the island)... Watch for signs then turn left...
  12. Jeeze Cliff... Wadda ya goin' to do when you get to my age ???
  13. Yep...that was what my granpappy and I used at the bridge on the causeway (Lake Scugog) before I got a reel... Just recently found out that my great-grandfather had a hand in building that bridge back in the late 1800's
  14. I got my first baitcaster (Shakespeare Wondereel) when I was twelve back in the late 40's...they didn't have all the doo-dads that the reels of to-day have...the main drag was your thumb... My worst backlash... A good friend gave me a European type carp outfit...11 ft. rod and a Okuma baitrunner...it took me five tries before I remembered to shut off the "free spool" when I got a "run"...nothing like having a 20 pound angry carp on your line while trying to untangle a backlash... The guys I was fishing with stopped me before I picked up my rod off my bank stix on my fifth "run"and reminded me of the "free spool"... Here was the result: Not my biggest but the most memorable...
  15. Those FinS minnows you used with Steve in the fall might produce... Did you try Mark's Bait and Tackle up this way? Jiggin' Raps are good through the ice...

  21. Back in the late 50's and the 60's when I worked as a waiter/bartender I had Christmas off but not New Years Eve... I stopped drinking in the early 70's and volunteered to man the phones at the crises center for a few years so that others could be with their families at Christmas time...
