  1. Nope, you're not alone Lew...Whatcha gonna do when you get my age... Mind you, I got a pleasant surprise last week...out of curiosity I watched the Dimestore guys...but one of them wasn't on...must have been the one who did the loudest hollerin, screaming, shouting...kinda tame this episode... Maybe they are getting mellow in their advancing years... Maribeth said "YOU are watching the Dimestore Fishermen ?????????????" "Yep, getting desparate"...
  2. ...Nearly sprayed my screen with coffee !!!
  3. The fishing license free weekend in February is new the past couple of years to promote icefishing...The license free weekend around the first of July still exists...for fair weather anglers...
  4. " However, our best advice to anglers at this time is to ensure that they have registered all ice huts which meet the present criteria and to display their registration number as provided for in the regulations" As much as I don't agree that portables should need registration as long as they are removed each trip...it appears the answer to your question is YES... However...seeing as how the registration is free it is really just a PITA!
  5. A name eh ?...Only thing that comes to my mind is "Smelly Smelt" as in "Smelly Cat" seeing as how "Percy" has already been used...
  6. I was thinking the same thing Daniel... Sounds like a perfect time for a carp rod and a baitrunner reel...
  7. It's been a while since we had any so I thought I would pass this on: The Godfather, the Bookkeeper & the Lawyer: A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has cheated him out of ten million bucks. His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the first place. It was assumed that a deaf bookkeeper would not hear anything that he might have to testify about in court. When the Godfather goes to confront the bookkeeper about his missing $10 million, he brings along his attorney, who knows sign language. The Godfather tells the lawyer "Ask him where the ten million bucks he embezzled from me is." The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper where the money is. The bookkeeper signs back: "I don't know what you are talking about." The attorney tells the Godfather: "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about." The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to the bookkeeper's temple and says, "Ask him again!" The attorney signs to the bookkeeper: "He'll kill you if you don't tell him!" The bookkeeper signs back: "OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo's backyard in Queens!" The Godfather asks the attorney: "Well, what'd he say?" The attorney replies: "He says you don't have the balls to pull the trigger." Now that's a lawyer for you!
  8. Ya...What Gerritt said !... If'n the money has bad karma, do you really want to pass it on to a fishing rod ? Skunk city every time you use it...
  9. FYI for Joe...divide CMs by 5 then multiply by 2 gives you inches...
  10. Yipes Rich...It's too cold to be jumping in the water to retrieve your rod and reel...I hope your drag is set real loose... Especially on your birthday !!!...
  11. Can't help with identifying the animal... Best of luck with the non-smoking... Sometimes it takes a determined mindset like... Nothing, absolutly nothing is worth taking a cigarette Each craving/urge you overcome makes the next one a miniscule bit easier and farther apart... My stepdaughter gave them up when her boyfriend said that kissing her was like licking an ashtray...
  12. Right where I am right now...North shore of Pigeon Lake...Haven't quite figured out all the best spots and I'm running out of time...Be nice if we could icefish for crappie and perch...
  13. Sorry Big Guy...Gotta take the old bus down to the mechanics tomorrow...Dang ! If you get out, catch a bunch !!! Maybe next time...Maribeth will be happy to be rid of my pails from the kitchen... They have been there since our cancelled trip to Uncle Jack's Pond... I hope the freezing rain they are calling for overnite bi-passes us...
  14. Oh sure Glen... I can just visualize Photoz in one of those and Brit Steve in his kid's dinghy having a race in P'Boro's Little Lake...who can empty their 5 gallon pail of carp corn chum and get back to shore first and set-up their rods... I guess Photoz would have to balance the 5 gallon pail on his lap... Might be fun having a 25 lb. carp pull it all over the lake...
  15. Hey Meely...What did you and Tony buy me ??? Place looks great...reminds me of my first visit to BPS in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami... Did Tony find his favorite Berkly grubs ???
  16. The fresh ginger and fresh garlic take away any "fishy" taste in my recipe above... Another way is to put a 1/4 cup of salsa, 2 tbs white table wine, 1 tbs soya sauce, 1 tbs. olive oil, 1 or 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped in a bowl and mix well...pour over thawed fish and bake in a 400*F oven for 15 to 20 minutes until fish flakes easily...this too is for a 400 gram pkg of cod, haddock, or any of the other mild tasting fishes mentioned above... Gerritt...if your listening...you can add these to your recipe book...
  17. As I pulled up to the pharmacy in the plaza a car window two spaces over opened a short ways down and a large container of soda pop was dropped out onto the ground... A chap walking towards the car picked it up and knocked on the window..."you dropped this" he said as he passed the container back into the car window... Kudos to whoever you are !...
  18. I used to tease my grandchildren by telling them "I think you are full of beans"... Gotta be careful what you say to kids as I became known as "Grampa Beans"... One of the young gaffers couldn't say the whole thing so he just called me "Beans"... The whole family picked up on it and I now get "Beans" more often than my real name... So by the time I got on the internet...it was a given...
  19. 'S OK by me TJ...who better has the right to be a slacker than the boss ???
  20. Yep...2 episodes back to back on KTLA @ 10:00 PM every night... Great show...
  21. I made a couple of wind shelters a few years ago and they worked quite well... Only problem was that I used 3/4 inch plywood (too heavy to pull in the snow)...Should of used 1/4 inch and should of used aluminum toboggans instead of skis on the bottom as they dig into the snow where tobaggans ride on top... Riley used to love to run around on the ice then curl up on his blanket inside the shelter... Today they do duty as shelving units out in the fishing area of my garage The tarps are now used to cover my wood pile...
  22. Sure am Reen...problem is...our lakes are closed for fishing until the end of April...just as well as they are covered with ice... Nicely done there Rich...as much as I envy you your carpfishing, I don't think I'm ready to freeze my butt off...-20*C this morning...getting a bit old for winter fishing...
  23. Way to go Steve for finally upgrading to hi-speed...sure makes a big difference viewing pictures here on the board and for viewing videos on Youtube... I spent an enjoyable afternoon after searching "Carp" videos...Enjoy !
  24. I guess you aren't going to miss your old (90's) roomates, but then it is not every day we get called "junior" at our age... Glad to hear you are home...now we got to beat this thing with whatever it takes...
