  1. This isn't justifying not wearing one, but I like what my brother does. He constantly practices, flipping, falling out and getting back in his canoe, spring, summer, fall. I think he normally wears a PFD, but regardless, he's more prepared than most if his canoe should actually flip over. Also he's taken recent swimming lessons.
  2. I assume that after this, he will change his ways about mistreating fish.... he is clearly doing damage control and would prefer to not be a public miscreant. If he indeed changes his ways, and other like this get the point that they do not live in their own personal jurisdictions, then I'm glad this all went down like it did. Those who are hating the public lynching are just hipstering hipster or devil's advocating the devil's advocate. Get over it, this was for the greater good and is a public lesson.
  3. Fall is nothing but a long term cold front. First frost this weekend?
  4. I'm not a boat rat, so I get uncomfortable in boats sometimes. When that happens I wear it. I also wear it in the canoe if the conditions call for it or sometimes I put it on and forget. I bought a nice PFD so if it's on at the beginning of the day, it usually stays on by default.
  5. I forget how I got here and now I can't leave
  6. Good on those guys for approaching him and speaking well. That is one ignorant prick.
  7. Looks like you got the pike slime washed out of the boat. 6 lakers in 20 minutes?
  8. ha! Looking forward to seeing the other 5.9 pounds of fish
  9. Cute kid. Great fish pics too!
  10. Agreed. Boom creek (the mattawa one) is far less productive than the river through my property. I need to establish a good walking/atv trail down to the river... rather brutal terrain back there as it stands.
  11. Welcome!
  12. Warm clothes...check. Yellow jigs...check. White River.
  13. Next weekend I'll be there. Awaiting final confirmation tomorrow. It's still setting in.
  14. Well, I guess I sat on a lucky horseshoe, because I got offered (by a work contractor) an expense-paid trip for 3 days to the Northend Outpost. Just saw online it's over $1,100/person for this trip! Anybody been? I'm assuming I can catch my fill of walleye with nothing but 4" grubs and jigs or even cigarette butts? Can't believe my boss and wife are letting me go.
  15. Extend your arms out until your shoulders hurt....measure that distance and stick to your story!
  16. You are right Bernie, the base pieces split surprisingly nice... not easy, but easier than expected. I have a good bush trailer so I split in bush and load from there. Had to take a break yesterday, my abs were killing me haha
  17. Nice cool morning, deer in the field, mushrooms are out, eating fresh squash, partridge are scattered, leaves slowly turning

Argh..another summer shot past and I haven't gotten in any practice with the compound for bird season!

  18. I suppose a verticle splitter would be handy for mid sized logs (too big to really lift, but not impossibly big like 36" diam.) As far as splitting in half, it kind of defeats the purpose. Logs that size can be chipped away, not split in half. Plus a half still weights like 100-150lbs. The other obstacle is that they are deep in the bush, through some rough trails, not sure working a splitter would be easy to work with out there.
  19. Thanks for sharing. I spent a week out there a couple years ago...I'd go back in a heartbeat!
  20. I have some 32" diameter yellow birch that I need to split...how the heck would I lift it on to a splitter? haha. Unless, that is jusitfication for buying a tractor!!...Wife, we need a tractor!
  21. this report alone probably got another 12 people into gar fishing. I'd like to see some caught from nipissing
  22. Jigs and worms....a true classic! Good share!
  23. Yikes, that'll make your heart skip a beat. Nice haul Luc!
