Hey all, Jim Jigger and I decided to try a new to us lake, near North Bay on Sunday. From what I know, this lake holds BIG walleye. The plan was simple... find access to the lake, walk out and drill a billion holes until we find structure or fish. Turns out the plans was a bit of bust since we found nothing but 12feet of water. All we got were a few perch, one near 10inches. 3:00 arrives and my dad calls "you wanna snowmobile to the shack?" Since I opted out of driving to shack due to potentially bad ice conditions, and this "new" lake was a bust...I packed everything and headed to the landing on Nipissing. From the moment we dropped the lines, the perch were furious. Within an hour the walleye moved in. I caught three keepers, let go one tiny cigar, let go one in the slot and missed a BIG MOTHA at the hole. In total I have 25 perch to clean and three Walleye...pretty good for 2 hours of fishing.... the ice shack never fails. Enjoy, RC

Very nice size walleye you got and worked hard hard for.

A Shenanigan filled outing with Leechman

what a mess out there.... -
you sure hit a lot of fish for just a few holes...that's awesome! I'm glad to hear the lake isn't a total mess either.

Great video. That's a lot of fish you guys caught. Right on.

I have good hopes for the leafs in the stretch. Any team that finds it's stride will play well, doesn't matter which players or gm or coach they have. Look at the pens without Crosby, Malkin, letestu and others...they are still playing well. Washington with tons of great players...not playing so good. It's all about momentum and confidence. Remember the Oilers in 2006 playoffs? Canadians last year in the playoffs? Calgary this year? Confidence baby!

yes, but it only make the on button that much scarier. Then again what's a bigger distraction...BB or OFC?

Just got hoome from my last day of work before an extra long weekend. Trying to play guitar but my blackberry won't stop emailing and ringing.

Thanks Mike, I'm hoping the warm weather drops the thick snow a bit and then freezes over nice and solid... we'll see.

My first cousin was on Mantracker...he was the other half of the "frisbee" duo. hahah good episode. Too bad about Terry...it won't be the same (or existant for very long) without him.

Great article Kickingfrog, thanks. April 1-may 10th? good luck fishing nipissing within those dates. These are my thoughts on the article: Slot sizes could maybe be reversed for a few years, smelting should be allowed if it is infact banned on Nipissing creeks, spearing during the moratorium should have better enforcement and the moretorium can afford to be a little more meaningfull.

I was wondering about the opener as well. I'll probably be on Temagami this weekend doing some ice trolling. Should be an interesting trip as I'm not too familiar with the lake and there's a lot of water to cover.

For general purposes I like the braid backing with fluoro leader. The longer the leader the more stretch you get and with braid you'll have to lighten up on the drag a bit is all. You can adjust quickly by adding a thiner or thicker leader as you need it. I'm not a hardcore bass guy though. I mostly just use a "general purpose" setup for fish under 20lbs. Some good suggestions have already been mentioned

yup, that's a beauty.

Hahaha Good find Nipfisher
-
nice dark colours on those bad boyz! Salty eh? hmmm..never tried them. Are they homemade?
-
What a waste of walleye...but the regs are the rules. Otherwise, nice fish boys!! As if anybody can tell the difference between a herring and a whitefish on the line. hahah
-
Follow the main snowmobile trails and you'll be ok. I wouldn't venture into any unbroken areas in the channels...we had our shack in that area a few years ago. 2 feet of ice directly underneath us and less than a foot of ice just 50 meters away.

Ha, them Gobies can't handle the cold. Who hates winter now?? Seriously though, I can't imagine any fish kill is a good sign, although it's possible that their food supply runs low in the winter and they just can't compete with the native fish. Go perch Go.

6 more months of Winter!!!! The best time of the year is when the temps rise around -5 degrees and there is still tons of ice on the lakes! I'm starting to think it's not only the water that gets soft...but some of the members...

Grinding concrete to flatten floor for laminate installation
Rod Caster replied to Fish4Eyes's topic in General Discussion
I had the same issue, albeit much worse as the WHOLE floor was uneven. I poored self-leveling concrete over the low spots to even things out. I used nearly 30 bags of it. Although I could have done a better job with the self leveler...it did work well. Sounds like you are in a different position since your place is already mostly built...mine was fully gutted. Like other have suggested, chipping it away might be your best bet (keep dust down)...there are also some types of industrial grinders you can rent, but in my experience they are hard to find and the dust they kick up is quite messy.
