  1. I'll be on Home Lake in zone 15 again this weekend. Bite was on last weekend for pike & walleye and the bass were very aggressive on these spots as well. Looks like theyre fully recovered here & ready for opener ?
  2. Was there any grinding or whining sound prevalent? I had a similar issue on my older MG & root cause was the gear box opening up from loose bolt nuts. Bit of a pita to disassemble & repair but an easy DIY.
  3. @ LBH, Your report (thx for posting) pretty much mirrors our experience on our home lake in zone 15 (Seguin). Fishing patterns are most certainly 2-3 weeks behind the norm. We limited out Walleye on opener weekend but based on sonar the walleye were still thick on spawning grounds & pike were in hiding. Following weekends pike & walleye disappeared from our go to hot spots. Most likely in recovery mode? Good news observations from this past weekend were 1) Bass spawn is done with loads of fry in shallows; 2) Vegetation is blooming and there will be much more cover in the upcoming weekend; 3) Pike & Walleye will be fully recovered & on the feed & bass are good to go next weekend; 4) This was a non-event for black flies this year Good luck on Fathers Day weekend!! I think we're in for some epic fishing
  4. Laker looks sad King looks nervous
  5. LOL. I don't think your Mom's insane. There are black flies but not intense swarms like last year. I think the cooler spring may have knocked them down significantly? This year I haven't needed the bug suit to BBQ or wear throughout the day. Light Deet spray has been enough to keep them at bay
  6. There will be bugs no doubt, but based on my last 2 extended weekends in Seguin (zone 15), my observation was the fewest black flies & mossies I've experienced over the pat 7 yrs or so. Versus spring 2017 being the worst I experienced through the previous 10 years!!! That said, ticks are everywhere so beware.
  7. I & Mother Nature decided it was time to upgrade the old Shimano rain gear & I spent a considerable bit of time researching legitimate product reviews. This review pretty much sums up the general consensus: https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/clothing-mens/rain-jacket/marmot-precip I was looking for a light weight mild weather rain suit as I have zero interest in fishing in driving rain in less than 10 C weather. That's what Bass Pro & Cabelas extreme gear are for. I'm somewhat surprised Marmot has never been mentioned here on OFC? The best deal I found was on Amazon.ca. However, with their pricing structure, the best price was limited on the 'Marmot' green @ CA$ 102.47 & fulfilled & shipped by Amazon prime. Other colours were priced much higher & shipped by 3rd party providers with extended delivery (up to 5 weeks): https://www.amazon.ca/Marmot-PreCip-Lightweight-Waterproof-Jacket/dp/B0007OWFZM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1527118407&sr=8-2&keywords=marmot%2Bprecip&th=1&psc=1 Note that the actual colour is more close to high vis green vs the more mossy colour shown here. I was actually pleased with the brighter colour aspect as it is in fact more visible in case of an emergency or low visibility conditions. Not to mention it was the best price available. As for the review; We fished the home lake in Seguin (zone 15) over the weekend (& managed an easy walleye limit BTW) with rain all day Saturday, winds gusting to 20 Kph & rain from scotch mist to full on downpour. I even rode on the bow @ full throttle into full on rain & wind for a full test. Rain just kept beading & blowing of the jacket. Got back to the cottage after 90 minutes on the water & not a single sight of water penetration. I was layered with a very light wool pullover & breathability was excellent. Never chilled & never sweated. I was so impressed with the durability & wicking that I ordered the Precip pants today for Thursday delivery: https://www.amazon.ca/Marmot-PreCip-Lightweight-Waterproof-Full-Zip/dp/B075LG4HCK/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1527120377&sr=1-1&keywords=marmot%2Bprecip%2Bpant&th=1&psc=1 So far, for value, fit & performance I rate excellent. + Suggest as a most affordable Fathers Day gift
  8. Thx for sharing. True Canadian hockey fans right there
  9. I still keep a printed copy of this guide onboard after 10+ yrs of fishing LO. http://www.seagrant.sunysb.edu/glsportfish/pdfs/SalmonTrout-LakeOntario2012.pdf It comes in handy when figuring out aggregate limits
  10. That's difficult to ID with the shadow over the mouth but it is 100% not a steelhead/rainbow trout. It is 100% Salmon. Coho or Chinook.
  11. Timing is everything That's the "bright" side As for idiots..........I don't think I'll go there.
  12. So according to better half who works @ Desjardin/The Personal & 25+ yrs experience in home/auto/boat insurance, your 3K boat is max coverage (fur coats, bicycles & watercraft combined) covered under your home policy inclusive of liability minimum of 1 mil $$$ so if you have no fur or bicycles, your max claim is 3K for the loss of boat + the max liability your home policy covers. edit to add, she has never, ever, never required a survey for a boat of that value.
  13. Welcome back Roy. You were missed.
  14. For your consideration......... https://limberlostforest.com/fishing/ if your interested, the reserve is owned by family friends & Gareth has a couple of lakeside simple cabins that can be booked for a day that are situated lakeside. Short walk from your vehicle onto a small stocked lake(s) with lakers, bows & brook trout. you do pay to play though
  15. 2 selfish Canadian players cost Team Canada this win. They should be benched for the next game. Very disappointing ?
  16. Yep, better safe than stupid ? I imagine I'll find similar conditions with the recent cold temps. I've been keeping an eye on the weather from afar and to the best of my knowledge snow & squall activity has been minimal since my last visit. Hopefully the snow activity stays minimal as my mode of transport is hiking on snowshoes. Dragging the sled through deep snow is a game changer i was wanting to head up this coming weekend but everyone has New Year's Eve plans this year!!!
  17. dI was up this past weekend to zone 15 and figured with all the preceding cold temps, there maybe might of been a chance to get on the ice? We arrived Saturday late morning to blueskies & -20C. With zero wind and the sun reflecting off the snow covered lake, it was the warmest -20C I've ever experienced. At first peek, the lake looked promising. No open water and the preceding winds took a lot of snow off the ice Unfortunately, upon further review under lower light conditions, some sketchy looking ice came into view We've been very successful in landing pike through the ice within 15 - 20 metres of shore, but the crappie like to hang under the ice 300 metres across the bay I did get down to the dock on Sunday and drilled a couple of test holes. Both were a solid 3 - 3.5 inches of black ice. But given that I have a limit of fall pike in my freezer, and we hadn't heard a single boom or zipper over 2 days, I wasn't remotely considering checking the ice any further out. We're back up on the weekend of 6th and with continuing cold temps and little snow in the past week, I might make it across for a feed of crappie. In the meantime, I better thaw some pike and make room in the freezer Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all........... Slayer
  18. Why would you knowingly trailer your rig with a defective tire/rim in order to buy 2 or 3 more years @ the risk of innocent others when you potentially blow a tire ?? Sorry to say but that sounds totally irresponsible to me Youre putting others @ risk!!!
