Saw these today in the Best Buy flyer - and immediately thought of things like, my truck, my boat, things like down riggers when having to park overnight at hotels or camp grounds. Or even when lending the car to the kids for the night Anyone ever tried these ? Say the battery life is 365 days? http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/trackr-trackr-bravo-bluetooth-tracker-3-pack-only-at-best-buy-tb001slv3pkeu/10396290.aspx?path=33789f1775a9ef3c548cebebda03c255en02

what song are you listening to right now???
spincast replied to fishing n autograph's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
its interesting how much of an influence Tom Waits has had on the last 20+ years in music - everyone from the Eagles remember this one? to Holly Cole just to touch the 2 different ends of the spectrum. here's another greatly under appreciated artist singing about camping on superior's northern shore.. -

Perhaps the importance of the message lies less with you changing your personal actions, as your perceptions and understanding, so that others might achieve results that address the condition. And prejudice ( to pre judge in the absence of knowing the details of that which you are passing judgement on) is more than sad.

Ganaraska River Atlantic Salmon initiative MEETING
spincast replied to chessy's topic in General Discussion
A couple of years ago the Atlantic was a heavy topic on another site, below are a few things that I discovered watching that chat and listening to both sides of a very knowledgeable group of anglers. . There are some eye opening numbers involved in this program to date (all numbers were up to Dec 2012.) The Province of Ontario has stocked tens of millions of Atlantic Salmon in various life stages from eyed eggs, fry, fingerling, yearling, advanced yearlings and even full aged adults. Of that number, less than two dozen have return to a major waterway such as the Credit River west of Toronto, where millions have been stocked. Atlantic salmon disappeared from the Lake Ontario tributaries in the late 1880’s due to river degradation in the form of dams, pollution, clearing of surrounding forests and to some extent over-harvesting. Those rivers that could not support Atlantics in the 1880’s are in worse shape today. Population sprawl and urbanization expansion have fundamentally changed the environment the Atlantic Salmon requires to successfully reproduce. From 1987 to 2004 the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources embarked on a major restocking program designed to create a self-sustaining Atlantic salmon population. Over almost a 20-year period more than 6,742,000 Atlantics were stocked. Unlike other salmonoids who return to their rivers to spawn in the fall when cooler temperatures and fall rains cool the rivers, the Atlantic spawns in mid summer. The rivers they return to are lethal at the time they spawn. They simply cannot survive in the temperature of the streams. Actually, they can’t even approach them from the lake. In 2011, despite millions of fish being stocked over the years, a grand total of 33 Atlantics were captured at the Streetsville dam. After more than 26 years of experimenting, at an estimated cost of more than 5 million taxpayers’ dollars, the results are, statistically speaking 0 fish survived. For what its worth, to me it makes more sense to continue with programs that have produced success. Chinook, Coho, Rainbow have all proven to survive in statistically significant numbers at far reduced costs. Somehow I just cant believe the Ganny will produce when and where all other rivers have performed so poorly; and, on the slim chance that the results are better than the other streams - the question: is why did it take so long to figure that out? -
2015 recap and 2016 OFC Tournament... Ideas?
spincast replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
or, hows about each angler per team enters their biggest for each species. Tourney champ is the team that has the most inches total, all species. Now you can have team champs per specie and over all champs. It does mean that each team has to have the same number of anglers. Might require some species tweaking (not sure too many teams would be able to get a white fish per angler, for instance?). -
I wish! I did. I've even gotta work on the family day Weekends only for now. Even if Jordan is jammed PD or Queeston are options.

I'm glad my boat insurance policy has no season restrictions. Stays like this and I'll be trolling for Browns before the Easter and the clocks change. After the last couple years, us softwater fans are 'bout due an extended season. Last time we had an early spring my season was not too shabby

Great shot - they are so cool. We have a couple in the woods behind our house; hear them talking away on the warm summer nights. Walked in the back room early one morning and there was one looking in. Reached for the camera and he was gone. They are so small - good eyes seeing him!

Congrats on the PB. Looks like you could use it for a baseball bat

I go to break up the monotony of a winter day and to spend some time with my boy away from school, chores and the blahs, ... At one point we were walking by the wind bags, and there was a sign: "Students! Now hiring for the summer season". I turned to G and said, "Hey, Bud, want a summer job?" He looks at me and in that teenage voice on the first word "Daaaad, I'm not being no cabin boy"

Nominations for "Best Thread Of The Year 2015"
spincast replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
hmm. I enjoy them all. Mike Rousseau and Fisherpete put together some greats stories and fish; Joeytier has some great backwoods adventures, Brian is a constant with some great escapades - especially those spring laker days, Limey's are fun, although the fact he can catch better fish from his back yard than I can after driving 3.5 hours one way has been known to drive the envy scale up a bit, Mike B and Bunk are in a league of their own,and then are those guys who only post one or two a year, but they are really cool, Like AK. As long as it has fishing in, I enjoy all them. Another man in a league of his own is Irish. I walked with him through his struggles and frustration, anger and sadness, I met the man and his wife, nicer, open folks you couldn't ask to meet. The sad end of that story this year was tough. I am still saddened by the fact I wasn't able to attend the funeral and say a final goodbye to Jen and personally show my support. To this day I see Jen, Wayne and Leah as an inspiration and role models on how to fight and never be beaten. Overall its quite the collection 'round here. That being said I agree with Terry's swipe at those who show up to promote their fishing biz, but that is the extent of their participation, and Mike - just to be clear, you are not one of the shameless self promoters in my eyes. You give freely of your knowledge and participate in the community at large. Of course, at the same time, I gotta tell you, these trips you post are driving me crazy - I get one place off my list a year of spots I want to fish before I die,and you add 10 edit: Ooops, and I meant to mention, Rodbender and Whitespinnerbait also gotta be included in any awesome post designations. These guys never fail to amaze with their camera skills
