Lac Seul walleye fishing (slip bobber in 37'FOW)
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
It helps to be on a lake where as far as catching is concerned the pressure is off! The spot i was fishing is just a classic bass habitat...and because it is a reef surrounded by deeper water tha walleye are present also......walleye and bass love minnows/leeches. :thumbsup_anim: cooling off? that day ...although everything seemed to work...i would have to say that leeches were least favourite. I have found this to be the case on Lac Seul on 2 occasions this year. Hey JB...those hooks are awesom...they have a rattle in them too. My pleasure. Thanks man...how's Cletus? -
Great report...i'm also going to try using rock bass to catch other bass

man o man, what a day! my wife is the same...she would have been upset about my day being ruined...what a great gal!

Hi All, went out on my home lake for an hour and a bit today as mum and son slept. Wanted to grab a few walleye for lunch tomorrow so headed to my sure bet spots. Was marking lots of bait and fish on the graph at my first spot...really light bites. Also the fish would follow and hit right up to the surface......not even a perch ill normally do that. Turned out i'd found some crappie. I have been trying to locate these crappie in this lake during summer for at least 3 years. I can get into them in the spring when they are in shallow in the weeds spawning....but after that they all but vanish. Oh well...i wont complain....kinda weird cuz i've fished in that spot before actually trying to find them on numerous occasions and drew a blank...weird....but i'll take it. Best one was 13.5" <iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cdlmWuBvzwc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It kinda sucked that i had to get back so soon...would have liked to explored that a bit more. However, getting back early enabled me to clean the fish before Jack woke up, and he had supper early....and guess where he wanted to go after supper.....we did not catch anything....but we spent a good 2 hours out in the boat floating around our bay. Jack was in hysterics for at least half an hour....we saw another boat out there....and Jack says to me... "daddy....i think the seagulls are going to poop on the man in that boat" LET'S GO FISHING DAD

That does not hold true either...i've seen the tanker filling up our local place at least 3 times in the last month....the only change in price at that das station was for the Audust long weekend....and guess what....it went up....while the price per barrel was lowere than it has been since whenever.....its a scam. meanwhile...ooooh....look at the quarterly profits of the oil companies....but ooooooh noooooo...musn't criticize them for making obscene profits because they will threaten to stop pumping because they dont have enough money to invest in increasingly difficult to access resources...any way you look at it they have it covered to continue as is....bend over and enjoy!

Hi All, posting to let y'all know ive been a non smoker for 3 months now! To everyone who offered support and advice...thanks...i owe some of my success to you I would like to recommend trying the patches to anyone considering quitting. I had been a smoker for over 30 years and had never even tried quitting before. The main reason i had not attempted to quit was the fear of feeling the withdrawals. I am happy to say that the withdrawals were nowhere near as difficult as i had anticipated and the patch definitely works. The whole reuction course of patches is 10 weeks and i'm now 2 weeks without even the patches. The first patch free week was tough.....but having 2 1/2 months of practicing not smoking was a definite help too. If you do try the patch....i also recommend taking it off at night....and also try taking it off early in the day when you are feeling strong....this helped me in the transitions to lower strength patches. I start my fitness blitz next Monday....because i am putting on weight.

Nope the guy is not called Jack...but if you would be kind enough to PM me his name and contact i would appreciate it. I feel cheated by my parents ....they pushed for me to study academic topics at Uni....i will definitely be pushing my son towards a trade...that way he can print his own money and be able to afford to pay for his own academic studies later in life if he chooses to do so.

morning people....thanks for all the replies. I think the best way forward on this is going to be to just go through the bill with him on the phone. Since my wife dealt with the call out and received the initial quote for $500 -$600 for the well line she has agreed to have the discussion with him first and see what happens. We did not bother with a quote for the 2nd bit of work he did averaging out in our own heads what the cost would be based on a general idea of time/materials compared to the first job which seemed reasonable. There is a question about the second piece of work he carried out was to solve the reason our deep well pump pressure switch was constantly cycling on and off....this just a few days after he had fixed the leak in the well line. He spent a good few hours messing around with the pressure switch....this is when his assistant was basically there to hand him a wrench at @ $60 per hour. After about 2 or three hours he said he realised he had put a valve or something on the wrong side of another join, and thats why he had taken so long to fix it....and that he would return in the next couple of days and fix the problem , and that he would not charge us to fix the mistake( mind you he was going to charge us for the initial work and screw up time). Fair enough i thought....all this time not thinking i'm being charged double rate with his young padawan in tow. So he comes back and does the work. he is there for another 2 hours. All in all with well job thats 9 hours labour on the bill. The time is not broken down to dates...just a lump sum. I know he needs to take off at least 2 hours of that. I am not happy that i was charged for his assistant to basically watch....i dont give a frigg about thats what normally happens...its not right...even though i understand that it would be difficult to turn the clock on and off for the assistant....well tough...do it...its my friggin money! If you know you are coming out to do ma certain type of job. I did like the suggestion somebody made about asking what the young lads credentiALS ARE. Anyway...thanks a lot for the replies people...some useful insights

I completely understand and agree that the well was a 2 man job...but 2 guys to fit a switch? as for the $80 being cheap here...yeah...so is housing compared to Toronto...its relative.
-
LOL...apparently it takes a while for the bills to come through too. Yeah he did the work over a period of 2 months on and off starting at the beginning of May...yes...we still have plenty of snow in may!
-
The general concensus seems to be leaning towards what my instincts were telling me. I should elaborate a bit....sometimes the kid did help out lots...4 hours was pulling up the 220' well line to fix a leak...the guys worked their socks off in 2 feet deep melting snow on our lawn. However...a lot of the time it was a kid watching. I have not had the opportunity to look at the breakdown of the bill, my wife just called me (in tears) to tell me about it...its a couple 1000 more bucks than we have right now.....anyway....thanks for the replies so far...helps me not to go off on a rampage but count to ten so to speak....I LOVE THIS PLACE BTW!

lol...oh dear...my downfall usually when i'm pissed off.

hi all, just thought i'd ask....do you think this is fair/right...a plumber recently did some work at our place...he had an 'assistant' with him. This looked like a kid doing his apprenticeship who stood and watched most of the time....only thing is the bill states we are being charged @$59 p/h labour for him on top of the plumber's $80p/h labour charge. The $80 is the going rate for a plumber around here...but i resent having to pay $59 an hour for someone standing there watching /listening and handing the guy wrenches...i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure the kid doesn't get $59 an hour either. Just thought i'd throw this out there...i know there are some plumbers on here...what do you think because i'm apt to argue this with the guy.

Hi all, went out yesterday for a few hours at william's Bay on lac Seul. The first couple hours produced the usual suspects of 20" to 24" fish with some keepers and even lost what was probably my biggest ever SMbass..oh well. After that i tried deep but the majority of the fish were small. Despite the size the fishing was non stop...even in 37'FOW it was a bite a cast. Because of this i started experimenting and messing around with baits etc...slip bobbers, twister tails(i never use them) and even four inch white tube jigs inspired by a smelt a walleye coughed up all worked. Slip bobbering in nearly 40 feet of water was funny. Jigs with minnows, leeches, suckers and nightcrawlers all work...so did combinations. A good lazy , hot day on Lac Seul...just what the doctor ordered!
