Hi all, What interesting times can be had going for a quick 10 minute drive to a lake for a spot of afternoon fishing. My buddy called and asked if I wanted to go out on the ice...done deal. We decided to take my flip up shelter with the wind conditions near gale force. In the end we did not need it. We decided not to drive across the ice to our intended spot because we were unsure of the ice conditions and did not have time to “test and go” all the way to it. Because time was a factor we made the wrong decision on the way in and ripped a tire from the rim of the trailer tire. So....... after a cold and unsuccessful walleye hunt we had to pull a crippled trailer out of the bush (I was praying I still had an axel as we got to the highway...I DID....GOOD TIMES!) and make a 70km round trip to CT to pick up a new one. I have never seen ice like this up here. It reminds me of when I was living in Sweden when I was a kid....flat, smooth, and see through ice over the whole lake. We have had nearly ZERO snow up here. Anyway......fished in 20 FOW....flat mud bottom bay, saw a few small walleye on the screen also a few that marks on the graph that behaved like whitefish and some of the usual perch pecking at the minnows. Only the one pike I got saved us from Monsieur Skunkypoo. Was pretty awesome to watch the pike come up under the ice...could not get my camera out in time though. GREAT TO BE OUT THERE ON THE ICE! Wow what a beautiful pup! I had never heard of a 'Victorian Bulldog' before...but googled it. Apparently a cross between 4 breeds. I know that one of the breeds was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier....my absolute all time favourite dog...... Thanks for posting...what a great addition to the family.

Lol...yeah...the cats were not amused...our other cat Bert has not really ventured from behind the washer dryer for the last 2 days! Thanks Motion....i've always loved labs since i was a kid, my wife had one all through her childhood...so it was inevitable really. Thanks Paul...babe catcher...why didn't i think of that...oh yeah...i'm married...lol. Thanks Staffman...yup..melts your heart. LOL...actually Jack has really taken a shine to Roloff and does not seem phazed at all by the attention not all being on him....i am very proud of the way he has been toward the dog...he's a good boy is our Jack. LOL...with all the kids and puppies this year it was more like an "iceman hath Arriveth" report, lol...i never got round to even worrying about not being in the boat and waiting for ice... Do it Jacques...i am surprised you do not have a dog.

Thanks Rick, well...when you come up next week you can tell him Lol...she tore a strip off him within the first 15 minutes he was in the house...he does not go near her now and she is surprisingly at ease with him now...as long as he is mor than 12" away. I'm sure you are right...lol. Thanks Maureen...he is pretty hard not to love. I see you have a new addition too. Thanks Chris...everyone tells me they love to swim...he's in the right place if its true. Jack named him and constantly tells us he loves him. Thanks C4C! Thats really why we got him...Jack has been asking for a puppy ever since he was able to say so. Yeah...that would suck! Thanks Jacques, only 2 weeks to go for some of those specks...go get 'em! Thanks man...i was totally prepared to be happy with just finding safe ice! To get a limit to was awesome. Not long now then RC....not long. The fish tatsed awesome...its been a month at least since my last fry up! Soon enough JB...soon enough. Thats what i said too....2 weeks ago the lake froze...then almost completely melted again. I'm pretty sure it wont be long before you and JB will be doing the JAYZUZ. Your weird Bruce....lol. i hate me too....lol.

Thanks for the replies folks...hopefully i'll be getting out at least once a week from now till ice out! Before ya know it you'll be out there Dawg...its coming! It did feel good to get out...have not wet a line for weeks now...it was killing me! Will do amigo...i'm gonna go out to a different lake tomorrow...its about ten minutes up the road from the one in this post...its much deeper so maybe no ice and a return to where i went today. Thanks tb4me. Yeah...-40 celcius sucks...but it has it's advantages too. I winterized my boat a good 2 weeks before i needed to....but i dont regret it...its a pain trying to do in the snow with a frozen hose pipe! Seriously man...do it! Rick, if we dont get out before Xmas, give it another 5 weeks and we'll do Vickers for Lakers if ya like. Awesome IF.....i have a feeling i would be the one taking pictures of your fish though! Hi all, Managed to get on the ice for an hour and a half today. 6" of good ice. Got a limit of walleye! LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wPTCN3dfI8I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Fish were in 19' FOW, pink jig was the hot one, jigs tipped with a good size dace minnow. Bite lasted about half an hour just before sunset.
