Thanks again for the replies folks. Its actually really nice having the shack on the ice road....has already become a focal point for a couple of my buddies. Jack is still a bit unsure of it, but he seemed a bit more relaxed in it last night when we visited a buddy who called to say he was down there chillin' after work. Still some stuff to do. Got the metal sheeting and some copper pipe to do the 'spacers', trying to figure out how to re-arrange the interior to accomodate one more hole for fishing.....its really a 2 man set up. All in all fun times for sure...i had never even heard of an iceshack let alone an 'Iceroad 5 years ago! Good luck Wayne...report please. I know exactly where you mean, in fact i caught my first ever Pike right there...its actually just off to the right of my Uncles house. But we set up where we are for 'social' reasons,,,,a few people i know in our little circle of wagons. Ahhh...Grimace...you'll be out soon enough. LOL...@ banana belt. Should have an awesome report from the shack on 'Family Day' this year....the whole of the town decends onto the ice road....should be great having a semi permanent residence there! I like the word 'Zambonied' too

Hey Bruce...really sorry to hear that.....man....that sucks...must've been very scary.
-
LOL...drop in to the shack...then i'll cook you a walleye supper!

Hi all, My 2 good buddies came round today and helped me get my ice shack out to he ice road, straight off the lawn and a mile or so away on the ice road. I decided to put it on the ice road as the fishing on our lake in the winter (around where we live anyway) can be very slow. I figured if i aint catching too many fish....might as well be social and meet some more folk. First job was unsticking the runners from the lawn....4 wheeler first....nope,........truck next......nope,......jacked it up on one side and it popped off the grass and back to the 4 wheeler with the truck following behind to stop the whole thing sliding down the hill on top of poor Tyler. The ice is as slick as newly Zambonied ice (is 'Zambonied' a word even?) so we had to push until momentum built up a couple of times until Tyler just gave the throttle heck all the way! We ....well....Carmon and Tyler even did me the favour of getting the Shack Christened with walleye slime and i got a supper. My wife and son visited on the way back from town...but it was a bit dark and cold to hang out. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gr6abLw0xyw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen> </iframe>

Thanks Jacques! The ice where we were was 8" black ice...hell...enough to drive a car on...but the depth varied...so we decided caution first was the best policy. Yup...next week its good to go.....i drove my truck across the ice road to work this morning...already 5 iceshacks out there. Its amazing eh? Falling asleep?!?....how much beer do you guys drink while fishing? Doooood! Where ya been? LOL...maybe try a skunk as a topwater for musky...but i aint gonna be the one trying to get the hook in it...and not in my boat!

It sounds like StarWars! Hey Rick...will be good to see ya again on wednesday. We are gonna go back to that lake...yes we almost skunked...but when ya do find the walleye there...its pretty insane with 27"ers not uncommon. We will be wanting to leave my houdse by 11am...is that gonna be an issue? Lol...sounds like us last year....this time last year i had 3 foot high snowbanks already! I dont understand...oh...wait a minute...you mean that weird hockey game..... was really cooooooooool. Was 8" solid seethrough BLACK ice where we were...but as we travelled across the bay we noticed the cracks only running about 5" down to the bottom of the ice...it was the varying depth that decided for us to stay put until next week. Thanks man.....not a big pike...but the only fish of the day....and it was cool to be able to see it from about 10' below the ice.

Thanks for the replies folks. I dont know if the deer made it off...they were just sat there at sunset when i walked off the ice.....it was dark when i left for work this morning so could not see. LOL....my buddy Carmon still has a Doe tag...he knows they are there after i spoke to him last night.....and there is enough ice out there too drive right up to thaem in his F150 No...there is 10" to 12" of ice right there, it is just folded beneath her in that pic. Not long dood...hang in there! I will be happy too, snowmobiling with a liquid cooled is not suited to glare ice at all! I dont think they will have lasted the night either Bushy...way too many cayotes and wolves around.

Can't Believe This Happen... Update - Repaired!!!

thats why i never buy that dodgy French crap........ -
Hi all, What interesting times can be had going for a quick 10 minute drive to a lake for a spot of afternoon fishing. My buddy called and asked if I wanted to go out on the ice...done deal. We decided to take my flip up shelter with the wind conditions near gale force. In the end we did not need it. We decided not to drive across the ice to our intended spot because we were unsure of the ice conditions and did not have time to “test and go” all the way to it. Because time was a factor we made the wrong decision on the way in and ripped a tire from the rim of the trailer tire. So....... after a cold and unsuccessful walleye hunt we had to pull a crippled trailer out of the bush (I was praying I still had an axel as we got to the highway...I DID....GOOD TIMES!) and make a 70km round trip to CT to pick up a new one. I have never seen ice like this up here. It reminds me of when I was living in Sweden when I was a kid....flat, smooth, and see through ice over the whole lake. We have had nearly ZERO snow up here. Anyway......fished in 20 FOW....flat mud bottom bay, saw a few small walleye on the screen also a few that marks on the graph that behaved like whitefish and some of the usual perch pecking at the minnows. Only the one pike I got saved us from Monsieur Skunkypoo. Was pretty awesome to watch the pike come up under the ice...could not get my camera out in time though. GREAT TO BE OUT THERE ON THE ICE! If you max the volume for the video you can hear the ice booming....that was really the highlight of the trip...the ice put on quite a show for us! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4h47n33IA8s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

There's been a few new family member intro's.....
limeyangler replied to ckrb2007's topic in General Discussion
Wow what a beautiful pup! I had never heard of a 'Victorian Bulldog' before...but googled it. Apparently a cross between 4 breeds. I know that one of the breeds was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier....my absolute all time favourite dog...... Thanks for posting...what a great addition to the family. -
With the tip-up across the back of the shoulders......
