  1. Congratulations on the sale of your home. I'm sure you'll be happy in your new residence. I'm approaching retirement & have thought many times about the chores that are necessary around my home. Good luck as you move forward. By the way - my mower is still running good. Thanx again for your assistance.
  2. I recently returned from northern Ontario to find the front of my truck absolutely covered with bugs, flies, mosquitos. I spent great effort to remove them with hot water & car wash soap. I was able to remove quite a few but there are still many marks on the bumper & grill. Is there a product you guys use to remove these insects without damaging the paint? I'm planning another northern trip soon & I'm considering a bug screen for the front of my truck. Perhaps a bra? Advice on a screen would be appreciated. Thanx
  3. Wow! Amazing report Blue Lk. It is truly a scenic paradise with so many fishing opportunities. The owner of the lodge I was at states - only 2% of his clients are from southern Ont. While I was there license plates from Iowa, Michigan & Wisconsin. The guys from Michigan travelled 17 hours to Ear Falls! There must be at least 50 lodges/camps with billboards advertising their camp along hwy 105.
  4. Thanx Rick for posting pix of my trip. You did a great job! I have to practice selfies with my fish. I was solo on this trip so I chose the boat floor as my background. LOL! In many cases it was a quick photo & a quick release. At this camp they promote C & R. Any walleye over 18" must be released. On Long Bow Lake near Kenora you must release pike over 26".
  5. Manitoubass is going to post some pix for me - I'm computer challenged! Might be tomorrow, he had a busy day of golf today!! LOL!
  6. I recently returned from Ear Falls from one of my most memorable fishing trips ever! It all started May 16 when I received a call from the operators union hall for a crane operator at the New Gold mine site near Rainy River On. I departed home May 18 to start work May 20. It's a 22 hour drive from Fonthill to Rainy River. I was driving along in great anticipation of starting the new job but, more importantly I had packed a lot of my fishing gear. I arrived in the town of Emo which is very close to the job site but also home of one of our more popular members -Manitoubass. I phoned Rick enroute & was fortunate to meet up with him prior to heading to the job site. We met up in the parking lot of the Emo Inn - the only motel/bar in town. I departed shortly after with an agreement to meet up to wet a line. Awesome! My work schedule was 14/7, 14 days working 10 hour shifts, then 7 days off. My first week off I flew home to Niagara via Thunder Bay to Toronto. My plan was to fish near Lake of the Woods/ Kenora area upon my return. I worked another 14 days straight & during that time I made plans to fish Ear Falls. I found Kenora to be extremely expensive to rent a camp & rent a boat & motor. Some prices quoted were in the $1500.00 - $2,000.00 range & up from there. I was advised to try the Ear Falls area & was pleasantly surprised to find a nice lodge, good cabins, 17' Lund boats equipped with 40 hp Yammys, padded, swivel seats fully equipped with fish finders for $630.00 for 1 week! Woo Hoo! I checked in to the camp June 25, & departed Saturday July 2. I previously invited Manitoubass to join me for a couple of days to fish the famous English river. His work schedule was a little tight coupled with a last minute health issue caused this meeting to not happen. While I was fishing the English River I realised in short order this place was a walleye factory. First morning 8 walleye in the range of 16 -18" were landed. I kept 2 for the frying pan. Every morning & every evening I was very fortunate to land 8 - 15 walleye! Another Woo Hoo!! Most walleye are nice healthy chunky fish measuring 16- 20" with a few up to 24". I was able to land a couple 22" & 1 @ 23". I consumed walleye at least once per day during my stay. The choice of bait was a simple 3/8 oz jig with either a live leech of a yellow twister tail. My favourite bait on the northern lakes is a perch colored "go getter" tipped with a leech. This presentation did land many walleye. My final evening of fishing I decided to try one of the original floatin rapalas black/silver. Wow! This proved to be a very good move. Nice 20" chunky walleye each pass near the dam. I landed 10 nice specimens in less than 2 hours. As I released the last fish, kissed it, & thanked him for all the fun! I think I landed at least 60 - 75 walleye while fish the great English River. Many photos shown down a few posts courtesy of Manitoubass.
  7. Nice job on your new ride. I love doing my own projects as well. The gar pix are awesome, but I really like the walleye. I'm a walleye hunter. Happy birthday!
  8. Sad to hear when we lose a member. My condolences to his family & friends. RIP buddy!
  9. Ensure the concrete anchors are about 4" above finished grade which will make your wood posts above finished grade. Water & snow against your wood is a sure way to have the wood rot over a short period of time.
  10. you must have used 3 then, cause I only used 1! LOL! It was a great time Rick, Thanx. If you guys ever get the chance to visit Fort Frances & Emo it's awesome! You'll need a guide such as Rick to show you around. The Sturgeon spawning beside the rapids on Rainy River was great! They have a sturgeon hatchery close by. I'm planning to visit Lake of the Woods in early June & spend a few nights near Nestor Falls or Sioux Narrows. Hopefully I'll have a few pix of the great walleye fishery this area is known for. Imagine - I'm also working here & getting paid for it!! With great fishing 1/2 hour up the road.
  11. Aren't we a cute pair! I was on my way to a gold mine job in Rick's area so, of course I have to give him a ring. It wasn't 30 minutes after I arrived in the town of Emo Rick & I greet each other then talk about the local hot fishing spots of course, then I was on my way to the New Gold mine project. I'm working in a camp setting 14 on then 7 off. I warned Rick I'll be knocking on his door about June 2. It is a small world!
  12. I sent a PM this morning & everything worked properly.
  13. Great job! I was there Thursday as well. I wasn't so fortunate - only 3 keepers for 7 hours fishing. I was also moving constantly, couldn't find a decent school, just small pods of fish.
  14. My buddy recently bought a new Interstate battery at Advantage Trailer on Clifford st. in Smithville. (Niagara area). $94.00 for the same Interstate I have. I paid $165.00 at CTC. Also trailer parts & accessories his prices can't be beat. 5:30 - 12 trailer tire & rim $50.00. The same tire/rim at CTC $72.00 when they are on sale! Spare hub including races, bearings & grease seal $18.00.
  15. Nope using windows 8 since I purchased new lap top last June. I have read too many reports about windows 10 to attempt it. I'm afraid to try it. Just like my phone - I've had 3 iphones, I refuse to try another brand - took me a long time to learn iphones! LOL!
  16. Please explain what is going on with the PM feature? I was sending a PM to another member, there was numerous errors, spelling, letters I typed but not displayed? I feel there is a problem. Please advise
  17. I'm trolling at 1.5 mph using a small "go getter" with a chunk of dew worm about 1" long. My favorite colors are perch & chartreuse. Hang on with both hands!
  18. That particular bit will bite in & pull the drill in very quickly, so you want to ensure there is nothing behind your surface that will be damaged. (wiring) Go slow & hold on tight to the drill, pulling back toward you with a little pressure. I would prefer a 3/4" bit you would normally use to drill steel. Good luck!
  19. Once again, very nice work! I know I was going to contact you about 1 of your creations, but I'd cry if I got even a slight scratch on it. Your rod with the spalted maple is outstanding!
  20. That's awesome! Thanx for posting that Rick. I'm a construction worker for many years. Laborer, carpenter, concrete foreman, site superintendent, now crane operator. I'm having a hard time to understand how they will ever rebuild the city. The oil companies have their work camps north of the city for their workers but with the loss of many homes where will the people live who are going to perform work needed to construct the new homes/buildings? It's mindboggling!! Fort Mac is a very remote city. Unlike southern Ontario,- for example if you lived in Kitchener & a major work project was required in Mississauga or Vaughan or even Whitby it's a short commute. Once you leave Fort Mac (heading north or south) there is nothing but bush for many, many miles.
  21. Any reports of flies north of Sudbury? I'm planning walleye opener in that area.
  22. They sure are very purdy! I love those colors!
