  1. Awesome pix! The scenery is beautiful.
  2. Those are some impressive fish young fella! Way to go! Huge whities!
  3. Thanx Blair - nice memories for sure. Do you guys remember that giant pike I hooked? LOL! It was the only fish I got that day!
  4. Awesome pix guys! Looks like a blast. I think my signature is on Blair's hut somewhere from the G2G 2012.
  5. I prefer shopping the smaller tackle shops close to home. I received a gift card for Cabela's , so I know I'll be visiting the Barrie location soon. I'm in Niagara & haven't even been in the new BPS - it's only 20 minutes from home!
  6. Cheer up Cliff. Your family & friends need you now more than ever. I do hope the up & downs in life improve for you.
  7. Lottsa sleds on Kijiji right now. I'm also looking to get one. In St. Catharines 23 pages! Pick your sled, pick your price point! LOL!
  8. That's awesome Drifter! Heavy duty for sure! I have to ask - what are UHMV washers? I do a lot of my own home builds & never came across this item. How do you like the welder? I recently purchased a Miller & completed a few projects. Hell I even tack welded my wife's potato cutter (the type with the lever to cut fries) LOL!
  9. Awesome shacks! Very well done. I like the one with the dormers.
  10. This is a terrible tragedy! For you people with young children, PLEASE READ MY SUGGESTION! Lock your house/apartment doors with a door knob lock, security bolt & a security chain mounted high on the door so a youngster cannot reach the chain. My daughter has a youngster at home & they follow this procedure AT ALL TIMES! Even when there is a houseful of guests. She is the one who educated me on the fact a youngster could readily open a door & walk away. We must protect young children. They are unaware of the dangers.
  11. Fishindevil - I fully understand your statement re lottsa throttle, ripsaw track etc. What about my flip over type hut/plastic sled being towed behind the snowmobile? Is my gear going to be spread all over the ice?? This would be a concern. OK maybe 50 meters of 3/8" rope to tie my gear down.
  12. I always make sure my pliers are out of my tackle bag & within reach. Many times I've been trolling for walleye & forgot to get my pliers out - no fish. Then I remember the pliers - get them out. You know the ending! FISH ON!
  13. Too funny! I like some advance notice to hide the beer cans! Gonna put a GPS in her van. I'm sure there's an app to notify me when she is - say 1/2 km from my location. BRILLIANT!!
  14. You guys got too much time on your hands! Doesn't anybody work any more?
  15. These people are scumbags! Recently I've been receiving emails - they're claiming to be CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) stating I am entitled to a tax refund due to new information they have receive in regard to my assessment. The link they provide looks exactly like a service Canada web page. Now they ask for personal information. That's when I clued in. CRA already has my personal info! Please post info like this & hopefully we can make more people aware of the "dirt" that is among us.
  16. Dan - My son in law has that exact trailer. You're absolutely right about the frame being rather light duty. I welded a couple cross braces of 1" x 1" x 1/8" th steel angle. Made a big difference to strengthen it. Sonotube does have a heavy wax coating on the inside. I would think you get a full season out of it. If you leave sonotube out in the pouring rain it will soften up. For your application I would use it. Also keeps the cold air/wind from entering your "palace"! I do like your idea as I have thought of this many times, cause I want to be portable - quick, easy moves! Even with my flip over - to me it's cumbersome & time consuming to move.
  17. Nice fish pix - thanx. Good to hear Joe has some nice sized Lakers. Heard lottsa stories of catching much smaller lakers. And they're good eating.
  18. Cliff - simple solution! Build a new garage closer to the house!! OK I'll put the beer cans away. LOL!
  19. Fish house supply has some great ideas. I also say that it will be too high off the ice. Perhaps sonotube from your floor to the ice?? I saw a drop down axle on 1 of the boards - very simplified. The hub was on a steel plate "cam", with a pipe lever the owner was able to pivot the wheels to an upright position so the hut sat on the ice. Sorry I don't have a pic or link. This unit might not be sturdy enough for trailering down the highway, but OK on the ice at slower speeds. PM me if you wish. I could sketch it, take a pic of the sketch & send it to you. Another idea for you. To keep cold air from entering your hut holes - cut the bottom out of a 5 gal pail & place it in the hole. If your trailer/hut is going to be up high would a longer pail inserted in the floor to reach the ice - would that work? Keep us posted as you build. I love home builds.
  20. In the early 60's all we ever used in Buckhorn were the original floating rapala - gold & black or the black & silver! We caught more than our share of walleye with them & nothing else. I still have several of these beauties today but haven't used them in many years. This past spring I met up with an older fella (82 yrs) who has been fishing this particular lake west of Sudbury for 50 years! Do ya think he might know some honey holes? I went to the dock one day to view his boat. The only lure he used was an original rapala -black & gold. Oh & he still had 3 original Mitchell 300 reels! That's all he used! Every evening he'd come in from fishing with a nice catch of walleye! A large group of other campers would gather at his every afternoon to listen to him talk of the good ole days! Myself included! Today all I use on Erie for monster walleye is various colors of worm harnesses.
  21. Sebastian - I'm in the same boat right now - I want a sled for the present snow conditions on Simcoe. I've never owned a sled, ATVS yes! There is a very good post right here - OFC. Title is "your sleds" by Rod Caster. Lots of very good info available for a newbie. I've been reading the added posts every day for 2 weeks. I'm still looking on Kijiji. Lottsa sleds 4 sale. Also google "snowmobile compression test" Lottsa videos how to inspect a used sled, changing parts etc.
  22. Awesome - all the guys willing to help you out! I'm pretty handy with the tools but I'm in Niagara. PM me if you wish. My garage has heat! LOL! Sorry Cliff Side note Cliff - my garage is insulated & heated (from the furnace) but, when it's -22C I supplement the heat issue with 1 of those propane heaters you screw on to a 20 lb BBQ tank.
  23. Sorry to hear of your loss. We're pet people also. They make such good companions, when they pass on it is painful.
