  1. Nice report. I enjoyed all of it. The sign says it all! 1/4 past ... LOL! I'd definitely look at a bigger truck!! LOL!
  2. This looks like an interesting piece of electronics. Good luck! I'll follow this thread to see what comments other people offer.
  3. Thanx for the replies guys. I also have the iPhone version of Navionics but it lacks the detail I desire. I was at BPS yesterday looking at the Humminbird Matrix with the Navionics + card. As mentioned in my first post I already have a Humminbird 798 HD ci which I use for sonar, side scan & down image & GPS. My intention is to use the Matrix for chart plotter only. If I have a need for a bow mount transducer in the future I'll have that capability in the Matrix. Grimsby Tackle $510.00 for the Matrix & includes the Navionics + card. 1/2 the cost of my 798. That sounds reasonable to me.

    ...

Beauty photo! Oh & that pike is nice also! LOL!
  5. I'm on my 3rd IPhone - now a 5s. I'm a basic phone user - internet, camera, gps (maps), talk, text a few apps. I'm not interested in learning a new phone. Way too many techy things for me.
  6. I have a BPS light weight suit for warmer weather. It's awesome! It rolls up into a very small package no bigger than a cigarette carton. 1 for the jacket, 1 for the pants. I don't know the price tag - it was a gift.
  7. Hey Pete - Sometimes you have to let it slide. I also have read comments I disagree with but, I just ignore them while enjoying the comments of other people.
  8. Big, fat juicy dew worms is my favourite bait on a harness. A nice long presentation works best for me. Last Monday on Erie I couldn't get the walleye to commit to my live bait. So, I hooked on a 5" Gulp Alive leech. 5 minutes later - wham! - a nice 6.4 lber. The only fish of the day!
  9. Thanx for the comments/ suggestions. I never thought about the bright sun on the ipad for a good view. Also, is the heat of the sun going to damage it? The fish finders & chart plotters are designed for this kind of working environment.
  10. I'm searching options to either add a chart plotter to my boat or download Navionics to my Ipad. I've been told I can download Navionics to my ipad that has greater detail than the app on my iPhone. Cost is $70.00. 1 or 2 problems I see is I would now need a holder to mount my ipad, also keep it safe from the elements (zip lock bag?). Do Ipads float?? LOL! Also the ipad is going to turn off & I'd have to restart it continually (this will be annoying). In my search I found a Humminbird Helix for $510.00 which has Navionics chip included. Navionics gold card is $300.00 at BPS, $260.00 at Grimsby Tackle. So I get the Helix for $250.00 Sounds like a good deal. I'm favouring the Helix along side my Humminbird 798 HD ci. I find the 798 on split screen is too small. All comments & recommendations are greatly appreciated. PS - I'm an older angler. Suggestions from the younger tech savvy fisher people would be awesome. Thanx
  11. I just started using rod sox (gloves) last year. I love them. Caution - Remove hooks & lures before sliding the sock on. They'll for sure get to caught in the mesh.
  12. Smaller lakes I like trolling small harnesses. I usually do well. Crank baits I love hot n tots - any color. Last year I started using Live Target smelt jointed 4 1/2" silver with a hint of blue. Landed some nice eyes on Erie. I'm wanting to try the live target on Pidgeon.
  13. I was in Bobcaygeon last week end. The resort owner we stayed at states - weed growth this year is behind schedule - so the fishing has been slow. Good luck!
  14. Good advice here Dangler. I have the 3 prong male Minnkota plug on my troller. I also mounted the 3 prong female plug to the underside of the small deck which the troller is mounted to. I like the "push in & twist" feature on the plug. I would suggest this method. Works for me!
  15. "wacky rigged seniors"?? I'm over 62 - do I qualify?
  16. I purchased the vertical plastic rod holders (4 rod capacity) from Ramakos in Sudbury. I troll a lot with my 14' Lund, so I mounted it on the vertical face of the bench seat beside the operators seat. It's out of my way while fishing & easy access when choosing another rod.
  17. Thanx TJ! Great story & wonderful pix! Fishing with the family, having fun!
  18. I purchased my plastic (puck board) runners from Fish Farmer 3 years ago. My 14' Lund slides off very nicely & a lot easier to winch the boat on to the trailer.
  19. Nice fish! Jack did an awesome job of reeling it in!
  20. That's awesome! I wish you had posted that on Monday when I came home with 2 new line counter reels, 2 rigger rods & a couple of dipseys!
  21. Beautiful scenery! Keep the reports & pics coming. Thanx
  22. I fish Erie a lot due to being close to home. I do agree with MrSimon it can be boring due to the lack of scenery. I also love the scenery of the smaller northern lakes. But when I tie into a 7 or 8 pounder on Erie it is a thrill. Most times my hands are shaking with a large adrenaline rush!
  23. Awesome to see your report! You must be very proud of your father playing along side such greats as Bob McCready, Gaylord Powless. A high school friend of mine (John Mouradian) also played lacrosse in that era. He played with the Buffalo Bandits, played & also coached the Toronto Rock. Last news I heard of Johnny was he was in Phoenix as part owner, general manager. Do you know of his whereabouts?
  24. Good one NAW. But is it with rum & coke or rye & coke?
