Gday all. I am going to buy a centerpin reel and have researched them over the winter. I have narrowed it down to three brands, I am not sure about the models yet. I am looking at an Islander Steelheader because it is a decent price and its a workhorse from what I have read. That suits me fine, and its made in Canada. My next reel is a RiverKeeper because I have not been able to find anything bad about them, and the third is a Paine Falls. I have never tried pin fishing but I prefer to buy good quality gear instead of trading up for better gear at a later date. It's not about you should try it first and then buy better gear if you like this type of fishing. I know I will like this fishing, no worries there. If any that other site you pinners have any info on these reels, likes and dislikes, or particular models that I should investigate more, that would be greatly appreciated. Or maybe some other brands that I am missing. I'm a big fan of buying canadian and I know the Paine Falls is made in the states but I really like the quick spool removal. The John Milner reels are still on my radar as well but I have to narrow it down sooner than later. Thanks in advance and remember hook sets are free, so set the hook. P.S. I will probably mate my new reel up to a Shimano Convergence for now and build myself a new float rod next year. Fish.

I think your best bet for a deep cycle battery is at Walmart. About 100.00 for a 27 series. They are ENERGIZER batteries. I use them and have no problems with them. I have had nothing but bad luck with INTERSTATE batteries, therefore will never buy them again. The best that I have ever used are TROJAN batteries. I have 4 of the in my 26 footer and they are at least 6 yrs old now and still going strong. Any charger with a trickle and a 10 amp quick charge will be fine just make sure it has auto shut-off.

In a bass tourney my partner and I always use the Roland Martin sctick when one of us catch a hawg, if no other boats are around that is, you yell SON, and when its landed one of us will say, LOOK HOW FAT HE IS, anad the other will say, IT'S OBVIOUS THIS GUY DOESN'T DOESN'T GO TO THE GYM. Then we both giggle like little school girls. The biigger the bass the more we giggle, then it's back to business.

Looks to me that the boys all took there ugly pills before the game. They beat them Russians like they were rented mules. Is it just me or do the players from the KHL look slow? Not hearing to much from the armchair critics now. Was nice to see the young guns step up. This is an incredible team. GO CANADA GO. I BELIEVE.

I recall back in 1982 I had to take a first aid,cpr course through work because we worked in the bush with power saws and brush hooks. I was a surveyor at the time. Well on the last day of training which was a friday and a payday too boot, I went to the bank to cash my cheque. The bank was really busy and the fella in front off me in line collapsed and was having an epileptic seizure. I went into action with the casualty and the bank called the ambulance. I have never seen a bank clear out so fast when I looked up it was empty except for me and another gentleman. When the ambulance and the cops showed up I just went to a teller and did my business and slid out the door to no fanfare. Thats when I realized how important it is to know, even if its the basics. It's been about 6 yrs since I was recerified and this thread has reminded me to get to take the course over again. Thanks

I really enjoy eating Northerns. I caught a nice 10 lber 2 years ago on a lake in the Kipiwa. I was about to release it and my buddy was standing there with the bonker in his hand. He said if I let it gow he was gonna bonk me instead. He said it would taste better then the walleye we were eating. There was six of us on that trip and that feed of pike will always be remembered. Man was it goood, better then the walleye in fact. We cut it into 1 inch chunks and fishcrisp batter with beer, then deep fried. I had a few last summer and they were awesome. I only keep em if there over 5 and under 10 for eating.

The boys will get stronger every game, but I think they all got a good scare tonight. Now they will get off their high horse and start to play desperate. Your right John, Pronger is still a village idiot. Brodeur is the man.
-
Thanks guys. I think I get the drift. Man I would sure love to try pinning, that looks like a blast.
-
good thing Brodeur was between the pipes, cause we sure needed him tonight.

I guess this proves it, you can teach an old dog new tricks

Cograts Cliff on your accomplishments. I am in the same boat as you were. I ran my own business for 15 yrs and wanted a change. I just got so tired of the retail sector and wasn't enjoying my work any more. So I took the plunge last fall and have been in the books really hard ever since. Beleive me, I had many sleepless nights before taking the plunge. The stress was unreal. Being out of school for almost 30 yrs doesn't help as I have had to learn to study all over again and manage my time more efficiently but i'm doing it and am only looking at the future and not looking back. At times I have thought I was nuts to be doing this but your thread has made me feel relly good at what I am doing. I could of stayed at what I was doing and carped about it till retirement but thats not me. I have a new saying that I say to myself frequently just to keep on the right path. BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW THEN CHEW IT WELL. Your an inspiration Cliff and I would love to meet you sometime. Best of luck in your future endeavours. Fish. -
Hello everyone. I am going to try steelhead fishing this spring for the first time and was wondering what are the do's and don'ts while fishing the tribs. I hear that certian areas can get pretty crowded at times and would hate to spoil some ones day buy unknowingly doing something that is frowned upon by the locals. What distance should you keep from other anglers while fishing above or below them etc. I have been doing my homework over the winter on how to catch these awesome fish but haven't really seen anything on the etiquitte side of things. I'm just trying to cover all the bases before I head down there. Thanks in advance. cheers Fish.

hey Archer. I think all you need is a two bank charger for your trolling batteries and your motor will charge your starting battery. I have one in my bassboat and its a 10 amp duel charger made by Pro Charger. Dual for 24 volt and use a triple for 36 volt trolling motor. You can mount them any way you want, upside down, wherever you have room. You also might want to look into a battery management system as well. It directs power to the lowest batteries while your running. P.S. allways have a short set of booster cables as well. There usually for the other guy. Hopes this helps. Oh yeah what size motor are you running?

Canoeing north. KD did an awesome job. I havent seen her for years but man she still has an incredible voice.

Hey Dan. I've been thinking about doing this as well. I found mudhole.com to be a very informative site as well. There forums are packed with good info. Best of luck. I am going to start on the cheapest blanks. There is complete kits available, then all you have to do is assemble.

In general I thought it was good. I didn't like the rendition of our national anthem, The whales was really cool. And all the salmon swimming around. Thought for sure they would of shown a fisherperson trying to catch one. All the first nation stuff was nice but a bit much. They should of thrown a moose in there somewhere along with a few beaver shots, but all in all a good job. I'm proud to be CANADIAN. Go Canada go.

G"day all. I have a question for the centerpin fishers out there. I have been researching all the different centerpins that are on the market and have come to the conclusion that my first pin will probably be a used one. Since the ones that have caught my eye are all in the 350 and up range and I dont really want to spend that kind of money. So I was thinking I will keep my eye open for one that is gently used. My question is what should I be looking for when inspecting a used pin other than the normal cosmetics and the spinning of the reel is there any underlying issues I should be looking out for. Thanks in advance Fish.

Thats one hot lure lure. Should call it the Underwood.

My buddy had to replace all the carpet in the cockpit of his bass boat from that crap. ate the adhesive that was holding the carpet down. And ive heard from many who have had them leak all over the place. But the gulp in a bag is a good product, I would say. I feel for ya man thats a hell of a mess to try and clean up.

Why aren't rear drag spinning reels more popular.
fish_fishburn replied to Syn's topic in General Discussion
well Syn I have both but I prefer the front drag way more. It seems alot easier to adjust the drag when fighting a fish with the front drag. I just find the rear drag to complicated in the spur of the moment with the preset drag and drag tension at the back. Just my 2 cents -
