Awesome picture!!! All that's missing is the thumbs up on his other hand! It's all about the kids sometimes...no better feeling.

This weekend started a bit early. My wife had half a day off, my little one was off on a PA day, so I played a little hooky and went home at lunch. Our plan was to hit Lake Scugog and fish from mid afternoon til just before sunset. With dinner packed and the boat ready to go, we hit the road and launched around 4pm. It was a little windy, but not too bad. We headed for a big weedline that is about perfect this time of year in the area we were fishing. It wasn't long before we started hitting some fish... Some perch... Crappie... WGSF... And I managed my first walleye from that lake!! We were having a great time out there...we fished until about 830 in the evening... PART TWO... This morning, Bly had to head up north to see our oldest daughter at her camp, so it was just me and Sydney. I asked her what she wanted to do and she said "FISH AGAIN!!!" So....pack up a few things for lunch and off we went to a local conservation that has a pond with some stocked panfish. We were not there long and she started catching. After a bit of lunch we went for a walk by a nearby stream. She wanted to walk into the water, so I said "Sure...but dont let it go over your boots". After doing that for a bit, she said "Daddy...can I go further into the water??". I figured, what the heck...go for it! She then says "LOOK DADDY!!! FISH!!! I WANNA FISH AGAIN!!!" I rigged up a makeshift float setup, showed her what to do and she says "Ok...got it...looks easy". LOL. Not too long after that she catches her first trout...I didn't tell her to pose this way...she said "I wanna look like the others on your fishing site...wait...let me get in the water too" LOL One more fish from the creek and we were ready to head home... It's been a GREAT two days so far....Bly and I are headed muskie fishing tomorrow morning. Weather going to be cooler and rainy, but we wont care...hope to report some success tomorrow!

First Ever Trip North With My Wee One

Now that's a report!!! Fantastic memories there Mike...ones both you and Riley will hold onto forever. When a young child just says thank you like that, it melts your heart...I've been there...and know the feeling! -
fishing off season, catch and release acceptable?
ccmtcanada replied to fishingisliving's topic in General Discussion
I was casting a small #5 shad rap last weekend trying to tease some walleye from a weed edge when a muskie took it. Quick release and back it went. Immediately stopped using cranks of any kind and went to jigging. If the muskie were hitting lures that small, then I didn't want any part of that. Targeting OOS is just wrong...telling a CO that you were just releasing them anyways is a good way to donate your rod and reel to the government. -
Now that's great advice!!! Great looking fish there...some real beauties there!!! Congrats.

Great report frozen fire! Just like last spring, this one is pretty windy with temps all over the map. No use risking dumping your canoe in waters like that on those windy days! You got out of the city, relaxed and caught a few fish...still a good weekend in my books!
-
Looking forward to it...I've pulled everything from panfish to walleye to muskie from close to Goreskis...good luck!
-
All great choices! One thing I'd always bring is the good ole fashioned hook, bobber and worm. If nothing else is biting then at least get some panfish for a snack.
-
You can launch a canoe there no problem at all. Not sure what they charge for it...but to launch my boat it costs 10 bucks. Launch is concrete and in good shape. Great protected bay just outside of the marina there. Good luck if you decide to try it.

Was wondering where you guys went!! Great to see you back with a report...the board wasn't the same without you guys! Great pics...great to see you out fishing again.

I have bought and sold quite a few things on Kijiji. Actually, the boat I ended up buying was from Kijiji. List it in multiple areas, including Toronto and I'm sure you'll get lots of inquiries for sure! Wish I had the cash, or I'd seriously think about it...your boat is nice!

Bly was anxious to get out in the boat again after her girls weekend away, so we planned on heading up to Sturgeon Lake to hopefully catch a few walleye and to see Big Cliff and Sue. Sydney and I saw Sue last week, but we hadn't seen Big Cliff in quite a while, so we were looking forward to this trip. We arrived at the lake around 930 in the morning and saw Big Cliff working out in his garage, so we stopped to say hello before hitting the lake. It was good to catch up a little before launching the boat. The winds weren't horrible, but not great either, so finding good drifts to jig for those walleye was a little challenging. We did find some nice weed edges and drop offs to fish, so we were hoping for a little luck. Bly managed a few little ones.... Sydney put her bobber away and wanted to jig like mom and dad...she's had a pretty good feel for it and managed lots of panfish... Another few more pics... I didn't manage any walleye, but a certain large species of the green and long kind ended up on my hook...released boat side quickly without any pictures...can't wait for the season to open for those monsters! Around mid afternoon, Sydney really wanted to see Big Cliff again, so we headed over to his dock. Luckily he was pretty much done his work for the day so we got a chance to sit and talk. Sue came back a little while later, and Sydney headed to the dock to do some more fishing. Bly ended up with a few small keeper sized fish, so we brought them home for a little snack. Anyhow, we'll be headed back to Sturgeon many more times this season...with great fishing and great people on this lake, how can you resist?

If you are thinking of going voice /IP on your phone
ccmtcanada replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Hey Cliff....it was great talking to you on the phone tonight and hearing most of what you had to say...LOL. Seriously though if that's the quality you're dealing with then I'd be upset as well!!! Looking forward to seeing you and Sue Saturday morning. -
Looks like you'll fit right in here! Welcome to the board...looking forward to seeing some of your reports this year.
-
Hey Joe...if you guys aren't coming up, then where am I supposed to get more hats? Sorry to hear you guys wont be there this year.
-
Bly and I are confirmed with a camping spot and a boat slip! We'll be there from Friday afternoon until Monday noon! Cant wait to see everyone there.

I was very shocked to hear this...I had no idea he was fighting a condition... His heart and soul on the team back in the early 90s left an impression with me for sure...he wasn't on the Dougie line...but when he was out there, you knew we'd be winning faceoffs...and he wasn't afraid to go into corners. 9 times out or 10, he'd win those board battles... RIP Peter...

ccmtcanada replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Great to see that you two finally got to meet and fish together after all this time! I'd gladly fish with either of you at any time! Even though one lake was a bust, the adventure was still there...and that's part of the whole experience. Great report and pictures...great looking Pike there Jason! -
