It's has been a while since I have posted a report...things have been absolutely hectic since July for me. Long story short, you may remember I was sent to Beirut Lebanon for some software testing...well, I rejected the code that they presented and that set off a flurry of activity back in Toronto. So basically, since then I've been testing that same software from 8 am to 4 pm every day. Since most of my posting is done from the office (and when I test there are people literally over my shoulder), I have not even had a chance to log in...and the last thing I want to do when I get home is look at a computer screen. Anyhow, our oldest has a new boyfriend...so we have lost our babysitter many an evening so we haven't gone out a whole lot. The last few times out in the boat returned us with no fish...so we were having a bad streak there! That being said, we have gone out and caught some nice fish...here's a little photo summary.... Fall Walleye The shore area we fish is completely dependent on a few things...the number one thing being wind direction. Anything from the south, east or southeast makes our area completely unfishable. Since we had such a warm fall...the winds from the south stymied us most times we headed out. Here's our nicest ones this fall... Bly with a 14 pound 3 ounce one. Sorry about the photoshop job here...her foot is in the shot for perspective.... Here's one that I caught....can remember how big it was...31.5", but cant remember the weight. Trib Fishing Being in the east end, the tribs tend to get a little busy during daylight hours, so we usually head out at night for a few hours here and there. Actually I haven't even hit a trib in daylight this fall. Again, since we've lost our babysitter, we've had to take turns out on the creeks. Here are some shots of Bly's fish! I prefer to fish early morning on weekends, so most of my fish came before the sun came up. Once the crowds showed up, I left to head home to spend time with my family. Some Steelhead.... And my personal best brown trout!!! It's only 25 inches...but it was a great surprise when I saw it surface during the fight... And back it went to swim another day.... That's it for now...maybe a few more fish before things freeze up...and heck...if I'm dragged kicking and screaming, you may see a few ice fishing reports from me!!! -
Ok...first of all, HH has it all wrong. I have no idea how I can be blamed for anything? Will asked if I could back the boat down the ramp, so I obliged. I went to park the truck and by the time I got back this is what I saw.... They were waving and thanking me for launching the boat. They then took off without me. So there I was...not even a fishing rod left behind for me. No wonder I didn't catch anything!!! HH had to use the outhouse that is by the launch, so I hid behind some bushes as they came in around 1230 in the afternoon. After completing his business, I ran out from my hiding place and jumped on the boat just as it pulled away. HH kept saying to me it's all Will's fault when Will wasn't listening... We trolled for an hour and didn't catch anything...so I'm having a hard time understanding why it's all my fault. Just as I figured the bite would turn on, Joe had to go home....at 130 in the afternoon!!! I have to say Will and Joe...thanks for letting me troll for that last hour. You think maybe next year you'll let me use a lure that dives more than 3 feet and has some hooks on it? I know I'm new at Quinte and reading fishfinders, but I could have sworn all those hooks were at the 15 to 20 foot mark?

What terrible news...our hearts goes out to you Bernadette...your family...and to all that knew him. He was far too young... Cliff and Carole.

Well, the start of steelhead season for me started out on a great note! I got in touch with Solopaddler and as luck had it, he was headed out last Saturday with a few others to go after these amazing fish! I was up at 230am Saturday morning...out the door by 3 and pulled into his driveway around 430. We hopped in his car and headed to meet up with fellow OFNers BillM and Wallacio. Shortly after the sun came up, we were drifting the river...things were a little quiet to start out...but a few small ones came out early. The river wasn't prime...it actually got muddier as the day went but we all managed to catch some nice fish. We all headed off to river number two hoping to find some better conditions. As it turned out, it was the right move...conditions were much better and more fish were caught. I dont have pics from Wallacio or BillM, so I'll be only showing a few here...post em if you got em guys! A few nice ones from Solopaddler.... And I managed a few nice sized ones as well... After some ribbing by some board members (Sinker...he specifically pointed you out here), about the classic Solo pose...he has decided that the new look for this fall is this.... First, let me refresh your memory....here's the classic pose... And the same two fish in the new pose... Hmmm...not too sure about that one Solo....LOL. As always, I had a great time fishing with Solopaddler and Bill...and it was great to meet you Wallacio...hope we can all do it again sometime!

Well, it seems we got enough done yesterday to allow me to head out to the tribs this morning...we are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our place this afternoon...so I had to be back in good time. I figured wake up at 5...fish in the dark for a while, watch the sun come up, then head home around 8am. I got there, and it was cold out....brrrr....frost lined the grass everywhere...even had to scrape it off the windshield before I left the house. I set up, put my glow stick on my float and began drifting. One good thing about pre sunrise fishing is that there was no one else around...to me fishing in peace and catching a few is better than catching a lot and being crowded in any fishing hole. Before too long, my float goes down and I set the hook. I feel the weight...it's a GOOD sized fish!!! Suddenly, it's gone. I reel in and see that the leader broke...strange...it wasn't fighting that hard at the time it broke off. Maybe the line rubbed on a rock I'm thinking. I know there's good sized fish here at least. About 10 minutes later, the float goes down again! I feel the weight and it's another BIG one!! ONe jump out of the water and again, the leader snaps near the hook. I'm thinking maybe I need new leader material...this one is a few years old now. Anyhow, at least the fish were there. Caught lots of smaller ones around this size.... Caught a nice what I call "grocery store" sized fish as well.... It sure is nice to be able to creek fish again. Seeing that float go down, setting the hook and feeling the weight of a fish is always a thrill. I'll never get tired of that!!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone...hope everyone has a great day today...and remembers everything they are thankful for...I know I am.

Congrats on the PB!!!! So you woke up your g/f and showed her a 21 pound salmon? LOL. I thought that smile inside looked a bit strange...sort of that "Thanks Honey...I'll make it up to you" kind of smile!!!! You put a lot of effort and hours into that fish...you totally deserved it!! -
Keep it up there Thom!!! LOL. You are right...it's only a matter of time...I'm just not quite ready for that quite yet!!!
-
Good friends and fishing...doesn't get a lot better than that Joey! Well, I suppose warm weather and fish would have been better but you know what I mean!! LOL. Great report...love the fall colours up there. Glad the icy stuff stayed up there! I'm not quite ready to deal with that quite yet.

GREAT report and GREAT looking fish there! Congrats on a banner outing!

We had all day Saturday freed up so that we could hit the water somewhere. So, we got the boat ready to go Friday night...and decided on hitting Sturgeon Lake...for two reasons. One, we are comfortable with that lake...and have had some pretty good results fishing for muskie there, and more importantly, we wanted to go and see Big Cliff and Sue. So, we left the house early and were on the water by 7am. The winds were calm...it was a balmy 5C, and the waters were surprisingly clear after all the rain the area got in the past 36 hours. We weren't sure where they'd be, but our plan was to find some waters in the 8 to 10 foot range, with some nice weeds...then move on to shallower waters if that wasn't working. All else failing, we'd hit the deeper 20 foot parts and troll deep to see what we could stir up. I know I'm going to get slammed here, but let's just say I was a great fishing guide on Saturday. I was great at getting us to perfect fishing spots so that BLY could catch some...LOL. She landed 3, and had another 3 follows...one of them struck her bait 2 times on the retrieve! I had one measly follow to the boat. You gotta love muskie fishing...here we were, in the same areas...throwing the same baits...and one catches, while the other doesn't. There wasn't anything in particular that they preferred this day...they hit both body baits and spinnerbaits equally. Anyhow, on to the pictures...nothing big, but a great day none-the-less. Same fish as above...different angle. I suppose I asked for it. I posted a thread last weekend complaining that no matter what I fished for, all I caught was pike. Gotta be careful what you ask for...I should have said that I wanted to catch muskie while muskie fishing. As a result, I didn't catch a pike...but I caught a smallie. Around mid day, we cruised slowly past Big Cliff's place, and saw he was out working in the yard, so we stopped by to see if Sue was up for visitors. As it turned out, she was up to have a little lunch, so we got to see her. The last thing we wanted to do was disturb them if she was sleeping. We had a great little visit...and it's good to see her back on her feet again. Take care Sue...and Big Cliff too...you are in our thoughts...and please remember to call if you need anything at all!

Thanks Norm...bly and I will be in the area tomorrow...and will either drop by the house if they are home, or try to visit in the hospital if she's there...
