  1. They really are a pain...for me to do it...it takes a full day to cut the tops off. It involves me getting up on a ladder, using pruners on branches that are up to 2" thick and a chainsaw on the thicker branches. Then come the sides. The time consuming part is bundling them up small enough for the town to take them as yard waste. Quite frankly, it takes up a whole weekend...a weekend where I cant fish...LOL. I'm not home at the moment...but I'd guess a dozen...maybe 15... If he's interested, I can take better pictures and send them along so he can give me a quote. Thanks!
  2. Anyone out there have the skill, time and want extra money to remove a line of hedges I have along one side of my backyard? Lol The maintenance on them drives me crazy. The cost, time and labour to take care of them truly isn't worth it to me. They grow about 8 feet per year and I want them gone. There is a chain link fence there that will do until I have money to put up a tall wood fence. Anyone want the job or can recommend anyone in the Whitby/Oshawa area? Mods, if this belongs in another section, please go ahead and move it. Thanks!
  3. I heard about this on the news and as I read this post my heart sank. My deepest condolences...
  4. Damn...very sorry to hear this Chris...
  5. I had no idea either. Regular people being heroes. Amazing that after the call went out...in less that 20 minutes, hundreds of boats responded...the picture was incredible. 500,000 people in less than 9 hours...unbelievable!
  6. Yikes! Don't know why that's funny.... ....But I laughed! Lol
  7. It was worse the time I was there and so was your son lol. Three Cliff's in one room...a first for me!!
  8. Loved this report. A fun filled weekend with family and good friends! May be a closer for this year, but something tells me there will be plenty of great times in the future!
  9. Nice going Geoff! Suuuuuure you got a Muskie....I believe ya! I caught one on a jig at Big Cliff's Sunday but didn't bother replying it....who'd believe me? Lol Sounded exciting man! Sure gets the adrenaline running doesn't it?
  10. Yep. Excellent points trib hunter. There is nothing more maddening then seeing half a dozen swim out of the way as your bait drifts by lol I night fish for them a lot and have success...no crowds either!
  11. If the fish are there you fish them. I've caught plenty of steelhead that were full of eggs still...not sure why anyone would say they won't hit if they haven't spawned yet. Best time to fish a river is after a rain. That triggers them to run upstream. Its a game of timing though...too fast and muddy and its tough...catch it when levels are on the decline and there is visibility in the water then you are golden.
  12. You got me itching to get out and fish the tribs again! Inspiring reports Brian!
  13. I did an oops to yesterday fishing for walleye too! Your fish was much bigger though!!
  14. Can't beat a 25c October weekend! Great time w family and friends.....can't beat that guys!
  15. Wow! Some amazing pictures there! Gotta love fall fishing! Always enjoy your videos too Oh yeah....nice fish!
  16. Now for how it really went...... We are out in 14ft of water....drifting along with jigs tipped with 3" twister tails. Something's hits my line and I set the hook! This thing is heavy and peels lots of line from my rod. I panic and start to heave on the fish, then realize it's my lighter setup, with 6pm mono and no leader. I say "I think it's a Muskie"' and he says "there are big walleye here too". I said "this figures...I'm out all day on Scugog yesterday fishing Muskie and didn't have even a follow". Sure enough, after it peels line off a few more times, it surfaces and it's a Muskie. Cliff nets it perfectly and it's in the boat. I said " I will show you how to work this camera" as i'm unhooking the fish. It's hooked lightly in the corner of it's mouth. I lift the fish from the net and before I could even get the camera it flops in my hands. I didnt want it to fall in the boat so I made a motion towrads the water. It apparently didn't want to stick around for a pic and it drops into the water never to be seen again! Didn't matter, we had a nice relaxing time out there chatting away and the hour we had to fish was over very quickly! We had a few more hits, some smaller fish, and headed in. Back to the house and he and Sue work perfectly "throwing together" salmon cooked on a cedar plank on the BBQ, some walleye fried up nicely, rice, salad and shrimp for dinner! The food was amazing! Thank you Cliff and Sue for the great company....and I look forward to seeing you again soon!
  17. You can't help it if they head to a log jam, but I was once told if you aren't re-tying because of snags drifting in waters like that, you aren't doing it right lol. I look forward to more steelhead reports from you Brian!
  18. Congrats Brian! Of all the fishing I do, I have to say that steelheading in tribs is the most satisfactory. A beauty fish!
  19. Here's the only one I found Cliff...Someone bought plans and scanned them for people to see for free... http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=b674356b9fe71d086b21be4093fab7ac8d34602edb3b4a33a2d0568e5b24962e Here's a step by step one someone posted on another board... http://www.blfga.org/blfga/shanty/shanti.html One more... http://www.ontariooutofdoors.com/getPDF.cfm?ID=Dewalt-Ice_Hut
  20. I wouldn't hold much hope for muskies, but there are pike around for sure. Husky jerks or other crank baits for those guys. Good luck!!!
  21. Fishlogic...as long as you get 3g and a plan, then yes, navionics will track you live on those tablets. I use the gps on my blackberry on the water for speed and to mark where the boat launch is...
  22. Bar none, for me the best is "Steelhead Float Fishing" by Jim Butler. I got my copy in Gagnon's Sports...but check online as well.
  23. A visionary for sure. I too assumed he stepped down because things had turned for the worse for him. He sure conrtributed a LOT to the technology industry....
  24. I just got an ipad and downloaded the navionics charts as well. Its perfect for what I want it for...get a 3g model and a cheap data plan and it will track him as well. Like any tablet, it'll be multi functional.
  25. Good luck Matt!! Lots of reading material out there on the web too..do as much research as you can!
