  1. Thanks for the kind words! The govt of Canada officially apologized in the early 80s. A large official document and a lump sum cheque for every person still alive who was interned. Problem is the people it affected the most were gone already. As awful as it was for them, I look on the positive side of things...I grew up in a middle class family...in Ontario. All I have ever needed I had provided to me. The struggles my grandfather went through ultimately benefitted me. I am lucky to be here
  2. Thanks guys! Will...that one fish didn't tire me out. Have you been told yet today? Lol Tiller/console....not going there in this thread Kevin...maybe you could start another thread asking about that lol!
  3. Very cool! You going to go after royalties??? Haha.
  4. Also done! Good luck!
  5. Mike! So good to see you posting a report! Looked like you two had an amazing time out there. He's a spitting image of you now...take a look at these two pictures. Exact features...exact smile! Hope meeting up for coffee next week works out...let's keep in touch about that!
  6. And that was with 2 adults and all our gear...it did 50 km/h when I took it for a spin with just me in it...without the floors etc... We'll hit one of those secret spots in it for sure Mike!!!
  7. Thanks again Bobkayla! Its perfectly matched for my boat...works like a dream!
  8. Its amazing how strong memories can drive our behaviour when it comes to fishing! Great stuff everyone!!! Dan...I gotta get me to Thunder Bay to trout fish with you! Skipper...didn't want to tell my convoluted story in your thread so I told mine in a separate one!
  9. Yep! Couldn't have done it without all involved! Thanks Joey! Will and Bernie are great friends Thanks! Was a great day! I know what you mean Mike...save up...you'll get there! Haven't named my boat yet...suggestions? Anything referencing me being "old" will not be tolerated LOL
  10. There are scratches on the paint of the boat from my cousins kids scraping it along docks, but there are no leaks at all. He made the trailer himself and it's SOLID! The motor has maybe 10 hours on it! Thanks for the post Roy...I do have it "happening"...dude
  11. Hey...I think you are right! Take me to a brook trout stream and all is forgiven MJL.
  12. I replied in skipper's thread and was invited to tell my own story. I didn't want to hijack that thread, so I thought I'd write my own story here...it may be a bit long, but here it goes... My grandfather moved his family to the Vancouver area in the 1930's. He was born in California...my great grandparents immigrated there from Japan. My dad was born in 1939. My grandfather was quite successful on the west coast and owned his own fishing fleet. The stories I remember hearing as a kid were that he owned a fleet of 3 or 4 boats and he made his living off the ocean. By the early 40's he was quite successful (especially for Japanese immigrant family), and he owned his house and something rare back then...an automobile! Fast forward to 1942...the second world war was in full swing and after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an order was made that all people of Japanese decent were to be interned in camps in the interior of BC. The government seized all his boats, his house, his car and they were told to leave their home. My grandfather was told all would be there when the war was over and received his "claim" tickets to the assets taken for "safe keeping". The war ended and the government had sold everything...and my dad's family had nothing. They were ordered either back to Japan (my dad never knew Japanese as he was born in Canada), or move east. They moved to Montreal, and my grandfather had to start over again, but he still had the time to teach my dad and his brothers all he knew about fishing. By the time my dad was in his teens, he loved recreational fishing. By then they had moved to Toronto. Here's a few pictures of my dad and his fishing buddies up on Lake Simcoe. He got out of fishing for a while when he married my mom and had us kids. It wasn't until he worked for a man named "Mr Cooper" at a vending company in Toronto that his love for the sport came back. Mr Cooper had a cottage on the Trent system near Belleville, and we went to his cottage a LOT as kids. Mr Cooper... Mr Cooper's cottage is where my dad shared his love of fishing with me and my two brothers. We'd spend hours on the dock...my dad tirelessly baiting hooks and taking the thousands of sunfish and perch off our lines. I'd watch that little red and white bobber intently, wanting to impress my dad. Here's a few pics from that era at that cottage. Mr Cooper sold his cottage one year and as I hit my teen years, I "forgot" all about fishing. It wasn't until years later, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer that I fished again. He just finished his chemo treatments and I asked what he'd like to do. He said he wanted to eat a huge steak and to catch lake trout on Lake Ontario, so we arranged a charter fishing trip. This is the last picture I have of him with a fish...he passed away 6 months later at the too young age of 54. Fast forward about 10 years and I found my way back to fishing. Watching my kids fishing off a local pier for panfish brought it ALL back. All those days on Mr Cooper's dock flooded into my mind and that very same day went and bought a cheap combo and fishing license from Canadian Tire. The rest is history The next generation is hooked on fishing...hopefully with memories she will tell her kids one day... Thanks for reading....
  13. Fantastic report! I'd be so lost out on the big lake like that. You sure have them dialed in and know what you are looking for! Great stuff...and the kids look like they had a blast out there!
  14. (Staring at your avatar) ........... ........... ........... ........... ........... I am at your command...
  15. Thanks everyone! I'm pretty excited about the boat...loving the trolling motor I have to say! MTP...of course it's a tiller! Rizzo...you are correct on the lure I was bound and determined that the first fish wasn't going to be a panfish...so I threw bigger baits all day long. It was literally the last cast of the day on a smaller husky jerk that hooked that little guy!
  16. Wow...happy anniversary guys!
  17. You know how kids smile at Christmas time? That pure smile when they still believe in all the magic? Well, this is as close to that as adults can get! Good job!!!!!!
  18. I have been boatless for a little bit but always had that itch to get one again. With money extremely tight, it didn't look like it was in the cards for me for this summer. That is, until I went up to visit my cousin up on Paudash Lake in July! He mentioned to me that he had a little 14 ft tinny that he'd sell me cheap. He got it for his kids about 10 years ago and they hardly ever used it. For the past few years he said it had only seen water maybe 2 or 3 times a year. He went and got the boat to show me and this is what I saw... I thought to myself...wow...it looks great! It's a 14 foot tinny...wide 68" beam, and he said he had some home made removable flooring made for it. The 30hp engine on it is more than enough power to make it boot right along in the water! Since I got the boat for a great deal, there were a few things I could now afford to get...a fishfinder and if possible, a used bowmount trolling motor. A fellow OFNer was selling a never before used motorguide 46lb thrust foot control model that I could not pass up on! It was a great deal and included a heavy duty deep cycle battery. First order of business was to install that! I then went up to Bernie's place with a bunch of guys and stopped in at the family business. I asked Bernie's brother about boat seats and bases and he brought out a bunch of stuff. He then proceeded to knock over 50% off the price...a deal I couldn't refuse! Bernie had an old seat and base laying around the cottage and he graciously donated that to my cause. Then Fishnsled came out to the house to help me with placement and to install them. He also brought a few bases with him to see if they'd work...and they did. He also wouldn't accept any money for them! Here are some pics of the boat ready for the water. I can't thank Fishnsled, Bernie and his brother enough! Now that it was all ready to go, I just needed to get out on the water. Fishnsled would be my passenger on my maiden voyage! He got here at 545am this morning...we still hadn't decided on what lake we would go to. Here it is...waiting to get on the road! We made plans in the car to go to Scugog to see about fishing the north end...but 2 minutes before we were to turn, we decide to keep on going! LOL. We ended up a little further north and launched the boat. Ahhh..it felt so good to get her in the water! I had a little trouble starting up the engine, but finally got it going. As I was priming the bulb, I noticed a pin hole leak in it...we figure an air bubble worked it's way inside and it took a little bit of work to get it through. Once it did, it fired right up and there were no issues at all for the rest of the day. On my shopping list is a new fuel line from the tank to the engine! We were finally on our way...the 30hp motor pushed the boat along at 40km/hr. Plenty of power for a 14 foot tinny! It was overcast and cool, but a nice day to fish! There were NO other boats on this lake! Fishnsled throws a jig and twister tail on and I'm throwing some weightless presentations for bass. He caught the first fish in the new boat...this little perch! He was a little excited! LOL Because this was my boat, I warned him that it would take a little getting used to me using the trolling motor...and he complained the whole time LOL. See what it's like not being at the front of the boat??? A little bit later, Fishnsled notices a cloud in the distance and says "I better put on my GORETEX rainsuit on that I got from Cabelas". I roll my eyes...look to the sky...and don't bother with my frog toggs. He then hooks into a little bass. This fish was almost lunch it seems to something big and toothy! Take a look at the scars on the side of this fish! We didn't have a lot of time out there today as my fishing partner had to leave early, so we decided to cast for some muskie. We hit the spot a few minutes later and on the first cast, I hear "Fish on!! Hit 10 feet from the boat!". A quick fight and he lands the first muskie of the day! Just as we were packing up for head back to the launch, I'm casting out a husky jerk...a last ditch effort of sorts, when suddenly I feel something pull back! It wasn't a big fish, but I was very happy to see my first muskie in the new boat!! The colours and markings on this fish were great! Well, with a successful day of fishing in the books, we headed back to the boat launch. Fishnsled silently took off his GORETEX rainsuit remarking "see how dry it kept me?" as the sun came out!
  19. Thanks for taking the time to write that! :thumbsup_anim: I may do the same as well...
  20. WHOA!!!!!!!!!
  21. Done It's a great picture!
  22. Looked like a great summer!!! Love the flying baby pic too! LOL.
  23. Post counts update real time...page views something like once an hour. From what I understand, it saves a lot of uneccesary bandwidth use.
  24. Didn't feel anything in Toronto and I'm on the 11th floor in a high rise...what time did it happen?
  25. I have had people PM me asking if I work for CCM...but that's not where my handle comes from. CMT are my initials...and I wasn't feeling all that creative when I joined this community. I added a "C" at the beginning because that was my work logon ID at the time. My original name here was ccmtcanada...but dropped the Canada after a while.
