NF Hitting Deer or other large wildlife on the highway
Raf replied to mercman's topic in General Discussion
make sure you are not the 1st car in a train of cars is my policy. some of it will come from experience, lots of deer around where I am but I've seen enough of them now to know where they are likely to cross. -
nice idea but the payback on a $250 tstat through energy savings is ridiculously long particularly if you already own a programmable tstat. just program the latter better. plus it's an apple product i believe.. big negative for me

I do have an option, I fire up the wood stove instead of my nat gas furnace. nat gas is currently the cheapest way to heat though (besides wood). however, coming from having no other option besides oil or propane at my last place, I can certainly sympathize with your and those in the same situation as you situation -- dealing with the crazy propane prices this year.

that poopbox may not even be worth 1800.

what bill said. big brother hydro one watching you and controlling how much you can use. a big no thanks from me.

some companies won't even touch you, wett certified or not we do pay a premium even though it is wett certified. i would have to double check how much extra yearly it is. my home ins. is $80/month which propably means nothing without knowing any details. i beleive we're with halwell mutual ins.

used to do it when i used a lot of mono. idea is to stick it in water to soften it up/make it really limp before spooling -- makes it easier to do so and reduces line twist. the former is definately the case, i am not sure about the latter. it's something my dad did all the time on spinning reels and i learned it from him

3 for 3 this year against ottawa and 9 of the last 10. ottawa can't compete with this team neil and maybe turris would look good as leafs. the rest of the team is where they belong, in ottawa and out of the playoffs. don't care how many points Karlsson gets, a #1D with a -15.. belongs in ottawa.

clarkson too.. i know he hasn't put up the points but i think he'll be a key player down the stretch.. i suspect he'll play with bolland against the other teams top line.

that's what I do. whether or not it makes sense for you to do that will depend on how far you drive. i commute/drive far enough that the gas savings of the more economical vehicle outweigh the costs of buying/running/maintaining/insuring it. the little beater i bought basically paid for itself within 18 months. but just my commute is 65kms each way. insurance will give you a multiple car discount, typically 5-10% but otherwise they charge full insurance cost for both vehicles, eventhough you cannot physically drive both at the same time.. ripoff!!

i like fraser, but with gleeson here he wasn't going to play. also, fraser has not been the same since the injury in the playoffs last year and the injury to his knee early on.

dufferin county here monday wife and i could not get home as all roads in were closed, had to stay in hotel today we barely snuck in before the closures the wind just blows and blows in the open areas, you can go from bare pavement to deeeep drifts in seconds. i can understand the closures. esp. with the boneheads i see flying out there way too fast for the conditions.

In my opinion, a decent rule of thumb is to take the weight of the rig you'll be towing, double it, if it falls below the MFGs tow rating you're good. Another good rule of thumb is if it's a 4 cylinder, forget it.

It will have neither the depth contours or an outline of shore. The gold covers the great lakes, a few larger lakes ie. Lake of the Woods, the trent-severn (including the Kawarthas/Simcoe). If Nagagami is even charted it will be on the Hotmaps series... or not at all.

crazy the propane price fluctuation last year around this time, it was about 600 to fill my old, nearly empty ~1300 liter tank. so just under 50 cents / liter. when i filled it the time before that in the august before the winter, i remember it being 39 c/liter. that's just 18 months ago! glad we moved into a place with NG and an airtight woodstove. really like the wood this year and i dont understand big cliff's issue with it.. though as I get older I may change my mind. (the work required).

Interesting opinion/factoid about Mercs vs Yammies
Raf replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
I bought the same motor.. never a hiccup and couldn't be happier. So quiet too. -
problem with a lot of the older (ie. 5+ yrs old) v6s is they don't burn much less gas, if at all, compared to the same models with a v8. 4.3L GMs were thirsty suckers. for example, mine's a little older than that (01 grand cherokee) and the v8 actually gets better mileage on the hwy and towing than the v6 version does. The v8 just doesnt have to work as hard. Definately do your research and consider what type of driving you do other than towing (city vs hwy) On the flipside, those new V6 Rams have plenty of power and get good fuel economy but they are out of your budget. This is the case with a lot of the newer v6s out there.
