thankfully matt, the things you see, such as orr 'intentionally' pulling parros down last night, are pretty far removed from reality.

wow, that's some dodgy detail. always a good idea to lay down a 'track' in ideal conditions and follow it when they are not ideal. helps a lot esp. in completely uncharted areas.

call me spoiled buy i have a general disdain for paying to launch and park. places i fish, it's generally (with one or two exceptions) free, either gov't docks or otherwise. i don't fish within two hours of the gta though -- y'all can have it. -
thank you all for your feedback.

Wondering what size generator I should be looking at and what you all use for as an emergency backup. Purpose is to work as a backup in case power goes out. At minimum, needs to power sump pump & a fridge. We have a wood burner as a secondary heat source, powering the nat gas furnace fan -- while it would be nice, is not necessary.

a question for woodstove/ fireplace owners, NF Part two

It was WETT certified before I approached them. They simply did not want anything to do with a wood burner no matter what. -
a question for woodstove/ fireplace owners, NF Part two

I was hoping to put all my insurance with one company (auto & home) and get a bit of a discount but my auto ins. co [economical] won't touch my home [wett certified wood stove]. so i ended up having to go with two different companies. guess who's not getting my business when auto ins. comes up for renewal. -
yep. i can see Pete's (squid) point about a good all-round reel for someone looking to outfit a combo or two and that's just fine but once you start obsessing over these stupid fish, i do think reels specific to a task can become advantageous - mainly in terms of durability of gear and angler. i tried an avet salt water reel strictly for dbl 10s & 12s this year -- makes it a lot easier to throw them all day and work the lures fast. my 7001 is good for big blades and it can do much more but for this purpose the avet's much better. along the same lines, i find using a curado 301 so much easier throwing suicks and other jerkbaits. i am not talking about carrying a whole arsenal of rods in the boat either. I typically have 2-3 casting outfits in the boat plus a trolling rod. Depending on the where and when, the starting lineup changes. In the fall, i may only bring one or two casters and 2 trolling combos, one wire and another braid.

best advice i was given get all your gear & boat *BEFORE* you get married.

the calcutta 400 series is propably the best all - round reel. i know you said its out of your budget but, the seasons coming to an end and you may as well save your pennies and / or beg grovel for christmas. if not, then reconsider a abu 6500 or 7000 series or look for a used calcutta. you are not gonna find a low profile reel that can do it all, they are all a compromise of sorts. i dont own a calcutta btw, i have different reels for different baits / rods / purposes.

My new (to me) fishfinder. Anyone used one....any good?
Raf replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
you need a navionics classic chip, they are no longer made but like dave said, try ebay. i would not expect many lakes up your way to be charted on those chips other than superior and maybe nipigon. -
Ethanol is an octane booster. It allows refiners to refine a lower grade of gas then boost it to meet 87/89/91/94 requirements. Suncor uses ethanol in all their branded fuels. DO the math.

if they know the area, then ask them what to bring. bring your ML and 8lb mono.. you'll be jigging or drifting with live bait in current areas at dusk / dawn or in the dark for walleye. trolling body baits in the dark can be effective too. in the daytime that setup will catch smallies all day. if you can bring a 2nd casting pike rod.

exactly. i used to buy the cheapo ones that i'd end up losing. once i got my costa del mars, i was much more careful with them.. and i still have them 4 years later. and they are night and day compared to the cheapos in terms of vision. never go back to the el cheapos.

not much crown land within 2 hrs especially sites you can drive-to.

i use an old eagle 320 up front.. you can get a bracket that you attach a regular transducer to which has a band that wraps around the trolling motor. or you can go low-tech (like me) and just use regular ole elec. tape and a small piece of wood wedged between the ducer and motor to hold it at the right angle, then make a few wraps with the tape around the ducer/wood combo and motor.

if you're a heavy moviephile/tv elitist and the tv goes in a dark room, get a plasma if you want an excellent all-round tv that you can watch in a brightly lit room get an led lcd backlighting is old technology now. led tvs are least power hungry, plasmas most if that matters to you picture quality plasma generally win but the difference is not very big. http://www.rtings.com/info/lcd-vs-led-vs-plasma

they work on certain bodies of water better than others, don't know why -- it's just the way it is they will even work over 60' water -- caught one casting off the 'canadian side' of the boat a few years back that hit in no mans land; open water well off the structure. before you think they are a shallow water only bait, take a look at the length of your typical boat (15-18') and compare it to a 4' fish.. two tails kicks and they have that distance covered - 25' is really a joke to a muskie.
