  1. Weather doesn't matter if the fish are biting! Good on you for hanging in there.
  2. I would actually love to see the picture of Mr. Martin's work. I haven't heard that name in a very long time. It could very well be a tiger, we can't know until there is some kind of debate.
  3. I lost my brother in law in that storm. It was tough to get into the city that night after receiving the call from family. My wife and I were north of Bobcaygeon when we got the news. It looked like a military zone that night and the next day (bluebird skies) showed the devastation. Dave was working with his father on Morrow Street and their shop was lifted and sent across the street into another factory. Dave ended up there, but my father in law got stuck in the shop and survived. There was a loss of life, but I was definitely surprised that more were not killed after seeing the level of destruction. That factory had everyone sent home early because the power went out. Can't imagine how many would have been killed if the employees were still working. RIP to all those that were lost in that storm.
  4. I agree with whoever said you can't use a mount to distinguish between a muskie and a tiger. Fins can be trimmed incorrectly and the fish can be painted in any pattern. ( I have also won awards at taxidermy shows) Scugog muskie are definitely more heavily barred than the other lakes, giving people the impression that they are a tiger. Someone would have had to put the pike into Scugog if there are any. Sturgeon would have to be full of them before any reached Scugog and moved upstream through the lock system. This rumour has been going around for quite some time. Time enough for a decent population to be established to confirm their existence.
  5. I was just reading this post and one of those buggers just landed on my arm in my main street office. Crazy this year!
  6. Looks like a great lake to explore. That makes catching something a great reward. I have always looked at this lake, but never made the trip. Hope you do well!
  7. LMAO. Great to hear you did well there. I used to go to the French and stopped going when the walleye seemed to tail off. The bite depends on so many factors there. Mayflies, water level and cold fronts.
  8. Man, that was a long road for that family! Sad.
  9. They like to strike, that's for sure.
  10. a good place for a meet and greet. I just shake my head. Good on you guys for going in there and catching some of those pike you aren't allowed to catch. The town of Coburg owns them, didn't you know??? LOL
  11. I have found it tough after the opening day. Water is low, cleared up in most spots and very little weed to target cover. Went out last night and caught one in the slot, 3 under and some massive perch for Pigeon Lake. I do think the constant pounding of the usual crappie spots is having an effect on the success this year. This is my opinion, but how many fish can be taken before you see a decline. Sounds like most people want that to happen anyway.
  12. All I can say is that the problem lies with the anglers that have no idea about handling fish. Example: Fish flopping around on the bottom of the boat in a net, so a picture can be taken with everyone in the boat. It's a stupid rule and I rarely use that word. This rule will not stop the above example from happening.
  13. There are so many factors that might come into play. How many anglers? How many guys pre-fish? How large are the lakes? Were the fish even biting during the pre-fish? The best thing to do if your trip is already planned is to get out there and do your best to out fish those ones entered in the tournament. Maybe target the largest lake of the three. Most important is to have fun.
  14. 100% tiger.
  15. I saw a show once where they were jigging for lakers and the trick was to keep bringing it up if a laker was chasing it. They said the fish would lose interest if you stopped the upward movement. They said to even increase the speed of the incline.
  16. The only thing I was think about while watching that Caps/Rangers overtime was that I was glad that I wasn't cheering for either one. Would have been way too stressful if one of them were my team. Thank god I'm a leafs fan, stress free. LOL
  17. That pipe cutter won't work on a metal exhaust. They're made to cut cast iron pipe.
  18. That would make them very good eating if all they eat are bugs. MMMMM
  19. Doesn't look like it has grown much over the last few years. Time for a new spot. LOL
  20. Call Rockey's in Orillia if you can do the work yourself. They might be able to get and send the part to you. I have order parts from them and get them quickly in the mail. 705-325-3526
  21. Thanks for the great suggestions. One of these should work and the garbage bag is the fall back that I have been thinking about. My wife didn't like the garbage bag idea. LOL
  22. I had bought a boat seat cover to go over a fold down seat a few years back. The cover eventually rotted due to weather. It was purchased at Canadian Tire. They no longer sell them and I can't seem to find anyone local that carries boat seat covers. Anyone know where I can find them? It was waterproof with an elastic around the base. The cover just slipped over the seat for storage purposes, it was removed when the seat was in use. Any ideas? Thanks, jimmer
  23. I agree with Lunkerhunter about a decision being already made. I felt that at the meeting I went to about proposed changes to FMZ 17 in the past. Most of the walleye are caught after 5pm on Scugog, it might have been an eye opener for them if they did the creel after 5pm. I know they aren't permitted on the ice after dark, but then what good is the creel? I believe we have to start thinking outside the box and look at successes in the states or other provinces. Otherwise it is what it is. A lake that can't handle the fishing pressure and other changes hat it has experienced.
  24. Haven't watched much hockey this playoffs as I would like, but that Islander/Washington game was great. I watched a bit of the Tampa/Detroit game after that and it looked like it was in slow motion compared to the Islanders and Washington. We lost 3 Canadian teams in the first round, the unfortunate things was that two were put out by other Canadian teams.
  25. I doubt many of us will be able to retire completely. The only way I can do it, is to sell my house, move into a trailer and try to enjoy that while working part time for play $$$$. I waiver back and forth over retiring at 60 (close) or 65. My mother died at 65 and she would not have collected any CPP if we didn't talk her into retiring early. So, I'm looking at 60 collect CPP and continuing to work part time. I hear your pain Cliff, it hurts when you hear about the government pensions and as far as I'm concerned there is no argument that can defend the thievery. The problem is, it's been that way for hundreds of years and will continue. I don't know if the Provincial Government took charities into consideration when they came up with the OPP idea. Ours will probably have to do some kind of another fundraiser to meet that need.
