  1. They will probably expose Bernier at the expansion draft. Not sure if it's the right time to invest in a goalie, they still have some growth to go through before they compete. Hopefully I'm wrong and they can compete with the new young ones in the line up next season.
  2. I have a muskie fanatic friend who won't fish for them during the summer, because of the threat that the fight will kill a fish. As mentioned, they don't revive well after a long battle (tire the fish out approach). I have spent numerous times reviving a muskie for 1/2 hour before it was able to swim away (that's on proper tackle). Never a good feeling to see such a magnificent fish struggle. They don't do well in warmer water. That being said, start with a Mepps Muskie Killer in silver blade and black bucktail on a heavy rod and reel combo. You can probably find a used rod and reel combo for a decent price. Avoid investing in too many baits that look good, they will empty your pocket quickly and sometimes sit idle in your tackle box. Good luck with your next muskie encounter!
  3. So I have a 14' Smokercraft with a flat floor and walk through. Live well on one side and storage on the other. Two bench seats, one in front and one at back. I noticed that the floor is creaking and is starting to get softer in spots. I like to plan in advance when undertaking a job like this. My issue is that the compartments and bench seats are riveted to the sides of the boat, but screwed to the flood. Does anyone have experience with changing a floor in this situation? Does the floor have to be replaced in pieces in order to be able to slide the wood under the pieces that are riveted to the sides? An direction would probably help me. Thanks in advance.
  4. Kawartha Bait and Tackle right in Lindsay (Queen Street) or Mark's Worm Warehouse just south of Bobcaygeon on #36. There might be one in Cameron also.
  5. We need more of that happening in this world! Great job Mike.
  6. Construction, manufacturing, fishing and hunting = bad everything for me. I don't let it stop me from going fishing though. Physio, stretching, pain killers and determination.
  7. Yes, there are some rock shoals on the south side of Big Island that can get you. Three Sisters Shoals and Hurricane Point are others to watch for.
  8. Two sandbars right out in front of Happy Days if that's where you are renting from, it should take you a minute to get to them. The other one is just north of there on the same side of the lake. Don't know of any on the other lakes. Watch for zebra mussels if you want to swim from any rocky shore. They tear up the feet pretty good. I would second anchoring around the islands on Upper Buckhorn. I hate the deer flies. They are not as bad on the north end of Pigeon.
  9. I agree money is just fluff, but I need more fluff to retire comfortably.
  10. Quit my job, donate back to the charity I work for, help some family and friends, then take off on a world tour (mostly fishing of course). Once that's all done I would move to a more remote lake and buy a place down south for the winter.
  11. That's a great offer for anyone without access to a boat! I can't believe someone hasn't jumped at this chance????? Gallie obviously knows how to catch those toothy critters!
  12. I was a plumber back in he day. Did a lot of restaurant kitchen work and that turned me off most restaurants for a time. Best not to think about it and just eat.
  13. Obviously there are two passionate sides to this argument. The MNR makes decisions based on science/biology from what I have always been told when involved in various local fishery groups. We can argue all we want on this site, but the MNR will make the final decision on whether the tourney can continue if the Chamber moves forward again next year.
  14. Great game all around last night. I hope it's a sign of better days ahead. Agreed that Pillar stole the show!
  15. Kessel going to Pittsburg was best for all involved. I don't think anyone was wishing for him to fail there. He is a talented kid who needed out of the limelight. I also think Phaneuf is perfect for the Sens. Why does everyone always thinks the worst of Leaf fans?
  16. They need to figure it out, it happened a couple of years ago. Not that we can figure out weather, but figure out what's best for the fishery.
  17. I think those spawning bass are just too hard for some to resist. Mind you there are plenty of pan fish along the shore line on Pigeon. All you can do is hope that anglers are ethical out on the water. Those American bass fishing shows don't help when they are pulling fish from the beds. It makes it seem like that practice can't hurt anything.
  18. What about moving it to opening weekend? That way there shouldn't be the same problem with water temps. I was being sarcastic about the catch and kill derby, sorry. This tournament has always been good for the area, but not at the expense of fish dying. There has to be a way to correct the issues.
  19. Let's just make it a derby then and keep everything if it won't have that much of an impact on the fishery.
  20. That's 27 that we know of and not all of the 140 boats would be fishing one lake. There just needs to be more care with the optics in the community; the last thing outdoors people need is to be scrutinized about killing and wasting fish. Yes, this tournament has been around a long time, but I never remember this many fish dying in the old days. I did enjoy a relatively quiet weekend on the water with everyone on Sturgeon.
  21. It just doesn't make sense to continue with a walleye tourney when there are warm weather issues. The last thing we need are walleye dying in live wells.

    PSA

I have talked to a few guys and they still think you are permitted twice the catch limit for you possession. Best, to learn the regs and fish within the law and then there is no problem. Think conservation ethics before belly!
  23. Nice kitties. Do you eat them?
