  1. I have had luck with p-line lately for my shallow water jigging for walleye or lake trout fishing in the smaller lakes.
  2. That ATV went through in an area that shouldn't be travelled at any time. I was out on the east side yesterday and everything seemed good. The usual pressure crack issue, but just had to find the safe spot. I guess I should add that going on ice is always dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
  3. Thanks for the report. At least you were out there enjoying the action. ME, sitting at a desk........
  4. If there is big money involved, there will always be a criminal element lurking to take advantage.
  5. I don't know of any open water in the kawarthas that you are permitted to fish in. Have you thought about calling one of the hut operators on Gull Lake in Minden to see if they have any openings? Gull Lake Hut Rentals or Haliburton Outfitters. They are not the same kind of operations as on Simcoe, but will provide a fishing opportunity.
  6. The access we used on the east side of the lake was horrible. Had to drive through a huge puddle before getting up on some waterless ice. The pressure cracks were also getting sketchy. Lots of ice otherwise.
  7. I sure hope that he doesn't bring bad karma over from the Canadiens; the dynamics of the team is important moving into the playoffs as everyone knows.
  8. Good to know, thanks for the info.
  9. Not sure why they got Plekanic, maybe some concern about Matthews?
  10. Well I reported last week on my trip out to catch perch and the poor results from that trip. I headed out again on Sunday with a friend (no hut rental) and we decided to go for whitefish instead as the target species. Well, Simcoe sure can change its tune quickly. My friend hooked up before I even had a chance to get my line in the water. He had 4 before I even had a bite. The total for the day was over 10, but we lost count on the near misses. Those whities sure seemed active and we went with the usual rig that works. I even caught a ling that weighed in at 5lb 14oz. The largest whitie was 6lb 11oz. I would have to say that it was my best day ever on Simcoe.
  11. How can you be depressed with a wife that will do this for you........... You have a keeper there for sure! Enjoy the trip and the fishing, I think that's a dream for most of us.
  12. Canadian Men's Hockey Team loses to the German Team. Man, that's disappointing. I know everything was up in the air without NHL players, but was still hoping for gold. Bronze is even going to be a challenge.
  13. Well, I got out yesterday with a couple of buddies and rented a hut to go for perch. Started off the day by slipping and falling on the ice before I even got in the transportation to the hut, yes I had cleats in my tackle bag, duh. Not good for a guy with a bad back, but I survived that. The fishing was not good, we marked fish most of the day, but they just didn't seem interested in eating anything. All the perch that were caught were very small, meaning nothing for the pan. We did catch a couple of herring and saw many more. The best part of the day was home made meatball subs!!!!! The hut was comfy and warm and great company with a few laughs at each other. Hope for better luck next time.
  14. Drafts are always a crap shoot anyways. You get good prospects if you have the right scouts. This is what Fehr needs at his stage of the game, it was the best thing the Leafs could do for the guy.
  15. I hope I don't run into a crowd. :-(
  16. Argh! Another one of these. Who the heck knows anymore.
  17. I have noticed that mine is starting to die near the end of the day and I believe that it has to do with the battery. It used to last me almost three days and now it is tough to make it through the day. I use the same set up as you. Not sure how old you battery is, but that might be it.
  18. Floyd's. They have nice huts and transportation, so I was just wondering what the personal preferences are.
  19. Geez, what's wrong with using little pieces of dew worms. I buy a dozen at the beginning of the year and it usually last me the whole winter when going for panfish. I just put a 1/4" - 1/2" piece on it lasts for a number of fish. I do like using minnows on Simcoe though, but worms have worked well for me there also. Wax worms are costly and they don't last long on the hook.
  20. Do you find there is much difference between Tim's and the yellow guys? If so, what are the benefits to go to Tim's.
  21. Has anyone heard of any other reports of people getting hookworm out of the Domincan or was this a one off?
  22. So sad. My son lives in Bobcaygeon and every time I hear about a snowmobiler going through the ice I get shivers thinking my snowmobiling crazy son is the one. Condolences to the family.
  23. Those are some nice looking crappie! I haven't even had a chance to fish the kawarthas yet this year and I live on the darn lake.
  24. Wow, nice catch! Beauty looking fish.
  25. They must not be listening about defense. Two leaf players going for the same guy on what amounted to a two on one for the winning goal. Was that Gardiner again?.
