Remaining OT for a sec, I used to catch them off the piers on the south coast, especially in Devon and Cornwall - always willing biters when the mackerel wouldn't play ball. I think the bones go green when cooked - never tried though, as Limeyangler says they smell so bad! and for noprth American gar, I use an 8wt and a friend uses a 9 - more than that would be overkill. Make sure you get something fast actioned to set the hook quickly.

I saw that too - looks like a Murcielago Some very nice Italian toys in that shop, 360 Spider, couple of Integrales and a very pretty Alfa Looks like a great project Jose, look forward to the pics when it's done

CP is probably a control point, probably marked so they can come back to it and take further measurements if required, doesn't mean they're going to rip your driveway up - doesn't mean they won't either though

I would think the problem would be keeping the boat still - a lot of carp fishing is waiting for the fish with the bait stationary, normally with a tight line and a moving boat would make bait presentation difficult, even just the up and down motion would probably mess it up. Fishing with a float or a fly would mitigate that but it's not always as effective. I do know guys in the UK who use boats (either rowing or radio controlled) to take their baits out to a spot out of casting range they usually drop the bait and a load of freebies and wait for a run. There's a lot of debate as to whether that's really fishing and it's banned on a lot of lakes.

That's good advice - Scott's a top fella. I know it's a trek from Windsor but you might want to think about this event http://new.iwffc.ca/iwffc/index.php Lots of good stuff for beginners and more the more experienced alike.

Winter is a good time for Fullers ESB

Cheers Chris BTW - found ferrules etc for that cane rod, hopefully on their way from a place in PA as I type this. Doubleheader - hadn't heard of Anglers Habitat, you may have just cost me some more money for one of those Sage kits!

Hi and welcome Locally your options for rod-building supplies are limited, the only place I know in the GTA is Angling Specialties, their Hwy 7 store has the best selection but the other location do carry a few bits. I'm sure other stores stock a few bits as well by AS carries the most. Staying in Canada the biggest mail order place I've found is www.rodbuildersupplies.com, based in BC. There are a lot of places south of the border and most of them will ship to Canada but beware two things: 1) their shipping policy, some will charge up to 20% of the order value up to $200 2) try and find a place that will ship with USPS rather than UPS or FedEx. The latter two will charge you brokerage on top of and duty that you need to pay, USPS packages are delivered by the mail-man and you just pay the duty (if it gets applied)

Skype has been around for years too (03/04 IIRC) - I use it when travelling for work to keep in touch with the missus and to call family in the UK cheaper than the phone company plus I can video call with my niece and nephew which is cool

That'll be fine (as Bill says a bit longer would make life easier but 8'6 will work for you) - put an 8wt line on it too, I use a Rio Mainstream Bass lines for both my bass setups, nice short front taper for turning over big non-aerodynamic flies.

I've got some cool hand-me-downs from both my grandads in fact I'm restoring a bamboo fly rod from one of them at the moment to hopefully make it fishable this year. To try and answer your questions....... With the logo rubbed off, hard to tell the make. There were a lot around in the 50's and 60s (as mentioned by someone else) with many being brought back from the far east by guys serving in the military. If the ferrules still fit OK with no wobble and there's no delamination of the bamboo (splits along the length between the pieces of bamboo) I'd fish it - start with a few panfish and see how it goes - perhaps pair it with something like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/GARCIA-MITCHELL-306-REEL-MINTY-Completely-Original-INCLUDES-VERY-NICE-HANDLE-/400272781309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item5d321deffd. FWIW my fly rod is about 2mm diameter at the tip and it's a 6wt so not exactly light. It won't be as fast actioned as a graphite rod but the backbone will still be there! They're not worth much ($30 maybe) but a great thing to have with lots of fishing mojo I'm sure

I didn't even know they were there! I even Googled "Fishing Store Burlington, ON" to check I wasn't missing anything and didn't get anything closer than Fishing World. If it's going into IKEA or near TigerDirect that's still pretty close!
-
How many 'local small' fishing stores are there in Oakville/Burlington? None The nearest fishing store is either Missisauga or Stoney Creek unless you count Grindstone in Waterdown and I doubt Sail will have any effect on them. You could argue that the positioning is better than the other two GTA stores (the other side of the highway from Gagnons and Bass Pro).
-
Right across the highway from MEC! I'll certainly go and check it out when it opens, haven't been to the Vaughan store yet.

Ah yes the $50 a box Simms studs - must be made of unobtainium or something , I use sheet metal screws on my wading boots too. I also bought a set of HT cleats from Canadian Tire for ice fishing, only one use so far but I'm impressed, they grip well and didn't move all day, only issue was the velcro toe strap was too long - easy fixed with scissors. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Fishing/WadersFishingApparel/PRD~0780863P/HT+Enterprises+Super+Stud+Sandal+Cleats%2C+black.jsp?locale=en

I fished Island Lake last weekend and it fits the bill perfectly - they had free huts when we got there just after 8am on Sunday but probably best to call ahead if it's a necessity.

For EVs and Hybrids I agree because of the batteries but can running a compressor to fill those air tanks really create as much pollution as a car doing 120 miles (bearing in mind that most cars in India are non-catalysed antiques). My concern would driving around in a fibreglass box bolted to six aluminium pipes with 3 compressed air tanks at 4300psi underneath me, I know they're designed to vent forwards and backwards in the event of failure buit all that energy has to go somewhere. Tata tried to get a city car into Europe a few years ago and it failed every crash test woefully, I can't see this fairing any better.

Try posting on http://www.hipwader.com/ - there are some guys who have fished downthere and may be able to help. If you're in the Hamilton area, one of them (Rob Heal) is giving a talk on fishing in Argentina on Feb 13th at the HAFFT meeting (see my sig) -
Well done Mike, just rewards for all the time you're putting in - we'll have to name that pool after you soon

Paypal charges the payer a fee and the recipient will be charged to transfer the cash out of Paypal to another account. If you leave it in there you can then use it for other purchases. As others have said lew, that email is scam-tacular!

Agreed - not exactly intuitive! For those who (like me) don't share the same thought process as the MNR site designer, once you put in all your details, you click on the outdors card link ($9 something) and on the next page add it and continue, then do the same with the license you want on it. Then go to Checkout.

Thanks - done!

If there's air trapped in the system, the level wouldn't necessarily drop. You can go round the bleed screws with the system hot and get all the air out (carefully!) then top the level up when it cools. If it starts doing it again, you have a leak. Next job is to find it - that's where the fun starts!
