  1. Are you waiting for the brunette with the nice smile and the plunging neck-line too?
  2. Thanks Bill As you were fellas
  3. My bad, sorry - still wondering what 'torque' means (wrt to reels), new to all this 'pin lingo.
  4. The Hardy float rods on their UK site are match rods designed for lighter lines and smaller fish. The specimen float rods would do the trick for steelies as would the 'Avon' rods - a friend in the UK has a couple of the new Hardy coarse rods (one float one feeder) and loves them but he's using them as intended by the manufacturer. When you say 'torque' do you mean lock up when it gets overloaded?

    Roe

Bronte Outdoor (2560 Shepard Ave) or Angling Specialties (325 Central Pky W - behind Dairy Queen) both sell roe bags and they'll both probably give you some advice too
  6. Picking up my first 'pin tomorrow night (Raven SST3) - I'll let you know! I'm going to give it a go with one of my UK float rods and see how it works out. I think all these sort of things are feel and the water you fish, a 15ft rod with tons of backbone would be a pain on a creek you can jump across etc.
  7. Amazon are OK and I think most stuff they sell ships from Mississauga, keep an eye on the sellers though, if you use different ones, you'll pay postage for each one. Bronte Outdoor leaving was a bummer, Frank said it was the winter that killed him, business just died - his new store is half the size with the same stock so I guess it makes more sense business wise - I think it's still the closest place, just with Angling Specialties being a close second.
  8. Partsource loan out tools, not sure about carb balancers though - give your local one a call and see.
  9. OK, not quite Ontario but most of the species I fished for in the UK are in various bodies of water here apart from these guys - Tench. They're a summer species (they hide in the mud at the bottom of the lake in winter and pretty much hibernate), but they put up a great fight for their size and are very slimy! I think they're a member of the carp family and I wouldn't try and eat one. That albino sucker looks like a sucker/koi hybrid!
  10. Great report and nice fish! I HAVE to get out this weekend!
  11. From your avatar it looks like you're doing OK for a newbie! My list would be.... 1) Gar on the fly 2) Stalking carp on the Erie 'flats' 3) Steelheading on the Niagara 4) Finally getting round to trying ice fishing
  12. Would've been better to call the MNR while they were there probably and left them to it. Well done speaking up
  13. I think the manufacturers will have designed a fishing reel with the possibility of it getting wet in mind Excessive oiling will attract and retain more dirt than any dunking in a river but with sealed bearing the amount of water that actually gets in will be miniscule.
  14. Saw the article last night too - I was there week or so too (not to fish, it's down the road from me) - midweek afternoon and the parking lot was full. Never seen so many dead fish, I guess the low water makes them more vulnerable. Hopefully this rain will help clear things out and get the salmon upstream too. Note to self - if you meet someone called Jill, don't say you're a fisherman
  15. Sat at my desk rather than standing in a river :,(

  16. Cheers - gonna head somewhere closer to home and see how it looks first thing. Even if it's blown, it beats going to work! Apologies to all the OFC steelheaders for jinxing the weather
  17. Pretty much anywhere in SW Ontario, Saugeen was the original plan. 50mm could play havoc with that though - the guy knows his stuff so I'm hoping he'll reschedule us if it's not worth the drive
  18. I don't like your chnaces of fixing it unless you can split it along the seam in the middle and then epoxy it back together with a new hook. but even if you can, I doubt it'll be the same.
  19. I reckon if you slow anyone's fly casting down, it'll look pretty cool especially with moody music! torco - you're right, the best way to improve is have someone stand and watch you and then try and iron out the kinks. TBH if the fly gets out there and I catch fish, that's the main thing. I was at the Spey Clave in Paris at the weekend and some of the casts those boys can do are amazing - had a chance to try myself, not as easy as it looks!
  20. Have a trip with a guide booked for tomorrow - at this rate, I'll be at work
  21. Here you go Raf.....(34mpg too when not being thrashed (not that often!) ) Or....(engine's up front but it went round corners sideways on command )
  22. You're right - it does come across that he's selling his only mode of transport. If he has two cars the he does right selling one of them. Good luck finding a job Skinny.....
  23. It's not kicking him when he's down but it's not sugar-coating it either. Selling your car when you're out of work to make ends meet makes sense but getting to job interviews and even the odd jobs Skinny has found will be much easier with a car than a boat. You're right, I'm fortunate enough to have never been out of work but if I were I can guarantee it'd be my toys that would be going first not my only means of transport.
  24. All that safety stuff is heavy, heavier car = more energy required to move it. Engine technology is much better than it was, to get the same performnace from a 1990s car weighing the same as a 2012 car you'd get much worse fuel economy, there's about a 600lb difference between a 2000 Civic and a 2011 Cruze Not so much North American companies any more - the European market is probably the most competitive (including the Euro arms of Ford and GM) and is where the bulk of the innovation happens especialy by BMW, Merc, VW. A good proportion of the lineups from the North American manufacturers have been switchjed to use European models that have been softened up e.g. the Ford Fiesta has been around forever in Europe
