My Mistake, what I meant was the Sand lake gate just south of highway 17. Thanks for the correction Singingdog. The road is also known as Achray road, McManus lake is a drop point for portageing the Petawawa River. If you PM me I can put you on to the Muskie hole, where the Lake Narrows, but dont tell anyone, Its just a stones throw inside the Military boundry. shhhh

The Kind Of Story That Makes Me Cringe . . . . (NF)
holdfast replied to Photoz's topic in General Discussion
My Old man was a letter Carrier for 20 years delivering on the South shore of Montreal. The old bugger delivered during hail, Ice storms, -40, 90 degree weather, and rarely took any days off. His pack in today's standards would cripple a person, as there was no limit that was strung across his back. His shoes were the typical government issue boots that we in the Army would only Parade in them as it would cripple a person that had to walk any distance. During the 70s he was the only English letter carrier out of 52, but didnt take poop from anybody. Yup I even recall how he felt nervous delivering during the FLQ crises when there was a rash of letter bombs and bombed post Boxes. He was tough as nails and loved by many along his route. During Christmas season his bonus was the occassional bottle of Rum, Card, or gift from his customers. Hed get up at 5 then report to his station, sort his mail and then deliver on his route. He would talk to his customers and even help them out, especially the elderly by stopping at a store for them. He was a tough old bugger who enjoyed kicking the St Hubert Cops butts when they had their Broomball Tourneys. One thing that I still remember how it irked him when delivering Welfare checks to those he knew were cheating the system and laughing at him. It has been my dream job to be a letter carrier after I got out of the Military but it has been Impossible for me to get in. It could be the fact that I can only fill out one page of three on the application as there are two pages for visible minorities or maybe I dont know anybody in the Union. Its too Bad because Im as Tough as my dad was and I love to excercise and I can function in the most extreme of weather. Maybe Im over Qualified if there is such a thing. Now today's standards. Seems I don't get mail on Mondays and Fridays. Weather seems to be a big factor now. Ive seen letter Carriers delivering mail in Taxis, Ive known two women on disability with less then five years delivering,(must be coincidental) Carriers wearing headphones., Mixed Clothing, and despite a user friendly pack, and I may add not that heavy, Quite a bit of disability claims. I Know things have gone to the dogs -
No, Im a disgruntled Hab fan watching a franchise going to hell in the last few years. Yea they are doing good, but consider this, look at the league theyre playing in. I admit the habs are fast, but it comes down to playing a team with grit, theyre invisible. I see no future for the team. They keep loosing their big boys and keep these small foreign players that are average to say the least. Last year they could of traded Sourey, or at least tried to sign him. Instead they pick up Briseboise(AKA Brokenwood). Maybe im getting spoiled here out West watching Edmonton and Calgary playing teams that used to be the way hockey was always played. Not this penalty crap, excuse me type hocky watching the leafs, Habs and Ottawa games. Huet deal, another bad deal. Yea Belak would of been better than a second round draft.

If you go to the east gate in the petawawa side you will not run to as many citIdiots. Not too far from the East gate you can drive right to the Petawawa River where it widens known as McManus Lake. Huge Musky and Pickeral. Tons of cats at Night, and a chance to catch a trophy Smallmouth. Drive further up and you have Grand Lake in Achray. Lots of bass on the many lakes. One Portage and your probably alone unless its a long weeknd.

Huet for a second round draft? Are you kidding me, that was a horrible trade especially when you look at what Mtl picks up in their Drafts. Huet could of and should of been the least, a number one draft pick for a team hurting for a Goalie. There was only one worst deal than that and that was what Pittsburg gave up for a rentle player like Hossa who will probably go as a free agent anyways. Im so glad Mtl didnt try to get him as it would of cost too much and hell probably be quiet anyways when they play the tougher Western teams. Carp-Do people really throw the fish on shore as fertilizer
holdfast replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
My old man as a kid used to catch Carp from the St Lawrence and then sell it to the Jews in Mtl for their restaurants. Apparently at the time they made for a good delicacy. Kind wonder what and how they cooked it. Then again there was a war going on. As far as a sport fish, since when? Must of changed like a lot of other things. LATELY -
http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.aspx http://www.saskjobs.ca/ Couple of Links just to get you perking. What I did was found out what area I wanted to go to, checked the MLS, then changed my mind from AB to SK. I phoned a couple of Companies, got interested in one. I then asked them about housing, Map Recced good fishing areas, and then moved the family. I am lucky though, I bought 2006 for 104,000 and now its worth 240,000. Sask is getting crazy because Albertas cost of living is bringing back all the Sasktonians that had once left the province. DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Join the Army like I did in Calgary. No not for everyone (LOL) Patience my boy, Patience. You gots to know someone, otherwise it can be very lonely. Lots of tough nuts out West so you can easily be led astray. What I would do first is find out where you want to go. You need a place to lay your head, or go back to if you are doing the camp thing. Housing is really tough to find. Once you have an Idea where you are going, secure a job before departing Ontario. People are begging for workers so that company may set you up for an Apprenticeship. Probably the best Apprenticeship program in the country. Paid schooling is also involved. Now here are the Benefits, lots of money to be made, as a young fellow you have the chance to move up the ladder extremely fast. As a young tradesman you have an excellent chance to own some of your equipment, have a decent truck, and then go into your own business leasing your self to the Oil and Gas Industry making huge amount of cash. Find a good woman, buy a good house in a small town, work your arse off, and you may find yourself way ahead than in Ont a few years down the Road. By the way, if things don't work out, move to Sask like all the Albertans are doing now. Sask is opening the Tar sands, Mining is Booming, and to the south of here, parts of USA and Saskatchewan are going to exploit one of the biggest deposits of oil in North America along the Fault line. The future here says, Ont will slow down, the West will not. But do your Homework as you will not regret. What can hurt, you will gain an experience at the minimal.

Im outraged by this thread, Im telling P3TA

Come on, Typical of the bleeding heart society we live in and those trying to push it on people. Lets face facts here, if it wasn't for some type of weapon, ingenuity (traps, pits, trained animals to hunt) etc we would all be living off each other. Our forefathers have always hunted, usually with some sort of an advantage over the animal. Now its mostly sport, I suppose you feed the birds or pigeons, which to some people are feeding the weak and sick but that's another story. Now as far as Miss Nutcase, I also think that the Judge is a bit of a nutcase for allowing such Idiotic requests. But then again, men with men, and women with women, are legally allowed to adopt, raise a child born through artificial or natural means. So he is probably shaking his head as it maybe out of his hands. But my question is when is this crap going to stop, never as long as there is only one who objects.

Fanatical to the point of insanity. I feel sorry for her offspring. My question is where in the heck does she come from. Lets see, she doesn't eat fish because it hurts them, she is a vegetarian though. I bet you there is something in her Lifestyle where an Animal of some form has been killed for her sorry ass existence. Can anybody think of a few. Maybe we should feed it all to P3TA or whatever they call themselves.

I understand exactly where your coming from. Here in Sask at least in N Battleford gas has held on to 1.06 A month ago it was the same despite going 100 dollars a barrel. It went down by 10 dollars still the same. It rose 100 dollars a barrel a couple days ago and we are told its going up at the pumps. So there is some sanity here by not raising every time some Dick says its going up overnight in the cloak of darkness. But its still going up even though its the same per barrel as last month. Now for my own experience in Angus outside of Barrie in 2006 you know, when every time there was a storm or weekend gas went up. I commuted to/from Wasaga to Angus every day and watched the 3 gas stations take advantage of the Military traffic going in and out of Base. Gas went up Thurs, down on Tuesday, they were 3 cents more than Wasaga and all points in between. One would raise , two would follow suit immediately, one would lower two would take their time. Now here's when I lost it. Its noon and I hear on the Radio that TO is Raising prices by 10 cents. I rush to the gas station in Angus and one station says they're empty, and the other I have to wait in line for an hour. I get my gas for that Days rate and the attendant, stops traffic behind me and raises the price 15 cents. I says to him what is the deal here, gas hasnt changed underground. He says he just got a call to Raise the price from his district manager. I call him a flapping lier as I watched him fuel cars like a bat out of hell ( Manager owner of that station) anyways, found out that the raise in price was only a rumour. The gas stations took 3 Days to lower to a higher price previous of the Rumour mill. I watched those suckers raise prices in late in the morning to take advantage of afternoon traffic going off base. There is a problem and its called NO CONTROL, GOV WILL NOT STEP IN so there is gas Gouging

I appreciate your answer, Sorry if I assumed that it takes just one person to make a complaint, to lock a thread or Delete an opinion. But from where I am sitting, it has seemed like it has happened. With all that said, for the most part the Mods have done a great job not only to make this the best fishing forum, but a forum period. Now hows that for Brown Nosing.

I for one would be burned to the stake, for saying what I have said. But unlike most people I come from a different background than most. Ive learned one thing though, with all the forced Diversity, desensitize training, you can change how a person says something, but not what he thinks. My problem I don't care, so it leaves me open to a lot of assumptions from other people. As far as this board is concerned, there are people that will stick their neck out, naive or not, and leave themselves to the ( I'm an angel and would never do that people) and then there are the Play it safe ( For the record, I have never kept any fish as pets, nor have I kept a muskie) people. But, what I enjoy about this board, is the different opinions. What I dont like the board, is how fast some people opinions get deleted so quick, because it takes one person to complain, usually a PM to the moderator, better not to show yourself person. So what is ethical, abating by the law I guess. But keeping minnows in an aquarium, done it as a kid, killing frogs, done it as a kid, killing fish, every-time I eat one. Calling an accidental snowmobile drowning on thin ice, yup stupid. Do you really figure that the dive teams don't smoke and joke while taking a break from a recovery. To you that's unethical, to me its not.
-
Holdfast, i have to say that you are really not up to the news on this team so why care?? Most of the youngsters you mention have played on the WHL,OHL or the QMJHL and have come through the hamilton bulldogs organization. Again, why do you care exactly?? Are you a closet habs fan? or disgruntled leafs fan! Id have to say a disgrunted Habs fan. What I said we need players that grew up in the Western Hocky or American league. Meaning Bigger, Tougher NORTH AMERICAN players. Oh sure you have your Token tough grinders in the OHL or Quebec Major Junior League. I will spell this out, TOO MANY european players on the Canadians to win the cup. For that matter, rough out at least 6 games with a Western team. Now before anyone calls me a Racist, I did not say exterminate all european players. Canadians can keep a token Markov or Kovelev, but more than half the team, and not one super scorer, or Iginla, Yzerman, Sakic, Brindamour Captain? Like I said, enjoy it now, because I dont think the Habs have a Cup chance. Not for years unless they trade for the future and now is the time when their small, non grinders are doing OK.
-
Whatever! all I know is that Higgens, Ryder, Latundress, Begin,Boullion, Komerserek are the only ones with some sort of Grit. I really dont know about the Rookies. And the only one that I would be Leary to go in a corner or fight would be Komerserek. Now as far as Brisbois (AKA Brokenwood) Dandenault, Hamerlik, Koivu, Markov, Plekanec, Streit, Kosteatsyn, Give me a Break. I would much rather trade those guys and get some young players that grew up in the American or Western League. Other than that, I cant see why any teanm in the League would loose sleep playing the Habs. Watch for the dumb trade Mtl will make losing what little Grit they have for, well Hossa which keeps coming up here from where I am. Supposedly they are interestes in Hossa, Tanguay, and some other Player which isnt really noteworthy. Like I said, there is a different league in the playoffs.
-
Here's another Good one, the BC Government just announced they will raise the price of Gas 2-3 cents in the name of the Global Warming threat, up to five cents within the next couple of years. Its called an environmental tax, intended on curbing travel because it will cost you more. What a Spineless way of Weaseling out of government punishing the big companies but put it on the tax payer. Watch and see other provinces, even the Feds do the same thing to cover their Chicken arses
-
There is absolutely no way that the Canadians are Cup contenders, at least any more than Ottawa Pittsburgh. With Ottawa they have a little bit more Grit. Mtl has been Lucky. You Take away Komeserek you have nothing more than a European type team, Skate, Skate , Skate, but no Dig, Dig, Dig or Sacrificing themselves in the corners or Taking down the oppositions Big mean Players. And we Know the Playoffs is a different game playing different clubs than what Mtl plays all year. Mtl will fly off their High horse. Hurt Komeserek, put him in the penalty box and you have free reign to the Mtl Crease. Nothing against Boullion, but he is small. Heres the Kicker though, they have an opportunity to get rid of talented, non grit players for grit. But I here they want to trade the likes of draft picks and Bouillon, Cary, Ryder for the likes of a Hossa. In my books that's a step backwards, with the same desperate attitude for a Chelios to a Savard Trade. Where is Sam Pollock. Mtl is got to get Grit players and a Consistent scorer. Quit the Politics, especially the stupid trades, trying to make the fans happy. Id love a Vinney in Mtl, but what price. We'll see what kind of trade develops. Oh one last bullet for the hopeful, What kind of crap is that where a Rookie steals a purse in a Bar as part of hazing or whatever. Gots to be a European thing, I would not hesitate to trade Kouivu for one second and put Komeserek as Captain. Id even put Begin if its all about making fans happy. Sorry but not yet, they are not even close to being like Ottawa the past five years, and I still think Ottawa is missing that extra special Grit to play the Western Teams.

I bet ya they drink Labatts Blue

I think this is Kind of related. Market Place just had a show to see if the drop in GST actually made it to the Consumer. WRONG O. Prices never lowered, But the drop in GST was absorbed to the seller that profited. Example they gave was your Movie Theatre ticket. Your hockey ticket. How about your car Dealers. So do you really think that these same companies will loosen THEIR Pockets for us the consumer with the Dollar Exchange. Slap yourself silly if you think we're not getting Gouged.

Hey now he can have his own movie like Pete Rose. One of Baseballs Greatest. Hopefully Rodger doesn't get shamed and hung out to dry by his own just like what we did to the worlds fastest man.
