  1. Very cool. Any idea from how close the kill shot was taken? What would that fly out have cost the guy?
  2. Headed over to the cottage on northeast arm of Pigeon. Still iced up as far as I could see thru the fog. Gannon Narrows wide open. Water levels on Pigeon still low -about 1 ft down from summer Scugog looked wide open from the causeway peter
  3. Interesting article although couldn't find a date on it. Likely 1+ yr old. Didn't know Nippissing water levels were that low. May be worse this year. That sucks. I have often wondered why the Province sits on so much crown land in the face of a massive debt and interest payment. We can only hope that if they sell some, they do so in a responsible fashion. We jumped into the cottage market last year with some fear. All the talk of a real estate correction. Thought it thru and came to the conclusion that the Trent system less than 2 hrs from GTA was the place to go for retention of value and more constant water levels during the summer. We'll see peter
  4. Went last night with the wifey. Similar fishing stuff as the Spring Fishing Show. More boats. Significantly more hunting stuff. Lots of fishing lodges. I wanted to check out all the ATVs. There weren't many. Also as a new cottage owner was disappointed with the lack in that department. A cool flag guy with telescoping aluminum flagpoles from Sutton. 15-20-25 ft. Might get one for the lake. Glad I didn't spend $19. $5 after 5pm. only open till 8pm weekdays Parked at the west end of Harbourfront by the marina underground $9. Walked about 1km. nice walk
  5. it wasn't that long ago, it was in the news, that a relatively new, brand name gas station in Toronto had significant amounts of water get into their underground gas tanks after a heavy rain. many customers had major problems with their engines and needed them to be repaired. the station/oil co. ended up paying for the repairs. not sure how common this is.
  6. Are you saying you are canoeing the locks and connecting canal?
  7. Just got back from the Sportsman Show. Noticed the larger G3 boats (Yamaha) including pontoon boats, have a water separator factory installed near the outboards. I asked the rep and he said all outboards should have one due to the high risk of having water in the fuel. What does everybody think? What would it cost to have one installed?
  8. Hey Lew. I'll bet you a Suick that we're still going to get some winter.
  9. Was surprised to hear from my dealer that they had 4 of 5 big E-tecs blow up on Ranger boats last year. Apparently E-tecs are an option on Ranger bass boats even though the dealer is not a Bombardier dealer. He told me they are a finely tuned engine that runs on a sharp edge. Doesn't take much to push them over the edge. I had considered one on my Lund in 2007. Went instead with a Yammy 'cause it was a proven engine. Glad I did.
  10. This time of year with the daylength getting longer, things should turn around in a few days
  11. I see on their website they currently have a 15% off sale for members. Does anybody know if they will have their No Tax sale during the Sportsman Show? Would both discounts apply to members? Peter
  12. Thanks Everybody. Looks like they moved into inland waters from the Great Lakes in the 50-60's. I see that southern Ont is the northern end of their range. Likely have always been in the states. Reminds me what could happen with the Asian carp. I hear crappies pressure walleye populations. Eating walleye spawn or young. Is this true?
  13. Glad you mentioned the $5 after 5pm. Nothing about it on the website. Only open till 8pm. 6pm on Sunday
  14. As a kid, never heard of crappies. Sunfish, rockbass and perch were the available panfish in southern Ontario. When did crappies land on the scene? A search of the internet got me nowhere. Anybody know?
  15. It's interesting. Does anybody know where the crappie came from? As a kid, never heard of them. Just sunfish, rockbass and perch when it came to panfish.
  16. Thanks Sinker. May not be long. Are they good eating?
  17. Hey Guys. Never targeted crappie before. Now that we have a cottage on Pigeon, will want to do that this spring. I think a small jig a few feet down from a float is what some guys use. What type/colour? What type of water do I look for? Depth? Warm north shore? I think they school. So try a spot. If no action in 5 min move on? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Peter
  18. Just picked up a pair of Motorola MR561CR 2 way radios at Costco for the same purpose. Cottage-boat-ATV. I think $60. Still in the package. We'll see if they are any good.
  19. Good point. Lots of trees. Better check out tomorrow.
  20. Went to the cottage to check things out. Crossing the bridge at the narrows -wide open water as far as I could see westward and for 500 yds to the east.
  21. Good thread. Everyone should check their policy.
