Gotta love it!

The Kawartha ATV club has a great website. Definitely no UTVs/S+S allowed on their trails. Lots of 2 UPs (proper and add on) in their photo albums. Sent them an email for advice. I spent 2 yrs buying my Lund while my Monark leaked more and more. No fun finding out you bought the wrong machine for lack of some research. This forum is great for that reason. My son went to a resort in Quebec for the company Christmas weekend. They had access to ATVs to use on the trails. He tried the 2 UPs and side by sides with his wife and found the side by sides to me more fun. Easier to talk with your passenger. The roll bar made them feel more safe. I'm going to contact the Kawartha ATV club and ask around the Spring Fishing Show and Sportsman Show. peter

Sorry fisherman. You are right. The link you gave is clear. Thought it might just apply to the aftermarket 2 UPs. Seems kinda crazy to me that they would be banned with 1 rider. The Polaris X2 has a fold away rear seat. A cop wouldn't likely know it was a 2 UP.

My Dad has a Mariner 40hp 2 stroke from the 90's. Is it at Yammy powerhead too?

Thanks Cliff and Moosebunk. The cottage is south shore northeast arm of Pigeon. Not sure about major trails in the area. Should look into it. A proper 2 UP is also a definite possibility. I'm thinking about portability on the back of a pick-up or separate trailer. Honda and Yammy don't make a 2 Up. CanAm and Polaris do. Longer wheelbase and suspension made for a passenger are things I'ld prefer. Is a proper 2 UP still not legal on roads with only 1 on board? (not meaning a standard ATV with a seat bolted on the rear rack). A box on the back would be handy for firewood or hunting. There are tons of ATVs on Kijiji but few side by sides. peter

Starting to look around for my first ATV. Looking for something that my wife and I can ride together up at the cottage trails. Some folks are saying best to get a side by side with a dump box on the back like the Polaris Ranger. I understand they are not legal on the roads. Anybody know any pros and cons?

Not sure but LeBaron will likely have their "no tax" sale during both shows. During the Sportsman Show for sure.. Bass Pro has theirs in March. Haven't heard about a spring Sail sale. I go to both shows just for something to do in winter.

Dropped in at the cottage northeast arm of Pigeon. All iced up. No huts seen. Water levels down a foot from the fall. Gagnon Narrows wide open for about a km. Same at Buckhorn.

I've gone thru 2 Abu 6500 C3s. They last about 2 seasons then need major lubrication or they squeel when you cast. Bought a Revo Toro 2 yrs ago. Seems to be holding up much better. But cost twice as much. Feels better in the hand. I might as well send the C3s to Aikmans in Mississauga. I think about $20 each for service.

I agree with Rae. My 17.5 Lund Tyee/115 Yammy is too wide to fit thru my 8ft garage doors. depth is OK with the swing away tongue. She's 4yrs old. Gets about 100+ hrs/yr. So far no problems. Solid on the water for sure. Fairly heavy to tow. Should probably have got a 130 hp for hole shot with more than 2 people on board. Max speed 40 mph. I like the deep V and high bow in the water. Almost got dumped on Lake O in my old 16 ft Monark years ago. Almost took a big wave over the bow in that low bowed boat. If you'll fish big water, Lund is tough to beat. Paid a chunk for the package. An extra $1K to put on the Yammy. People tell me that was a good move. I figure buy the best/safest boat out there. My life and the my family is worth it. Renewed our cards and fishing licences on-line before Christmas and haven't received them yet. Anybody else have this problem? Good thing I don't ice fish.

Grimace, your science argument likely doesn't work well in the real world. Good, hard science is not easy to come by and takes lots of time. In the face of an outbreak of disease or potentially a harmful population explosion, by the time science gets it right, and everybody in the scientific community agrees, it's too late. Also, our decision makers have to contend with getting re-elected and therefore are sometimes reluctant to make the right decision if it makes for controversy, or might cost them votes. So the status-quot is maintained. Our fishery is already under significant stress due to the reduction of the tiny organisms that make up the bottom of the food chain, thanks to the invasive mussel species introduced. I have no problem with a modest number of cormorants. Everybody has the right to make a living. I just struggle with a potential additional stress on the fishery being left to get out of control, while being protected by a government that has seen them recover back very healthy numbers. my two cents

According the the government article, they were first seen in southern Ont in the early 1900's. Doesn't sound native to me.

Huge issue. Wish they were gone. Complicated. On Pigeon lake in the Kawarthas we have a few. Lots more loons. I'm sure they eat a lot of perch and other panfish too, but I have to admit I love the loons being there. They are native. The cormorants aren't. Opening a hunting season would certainly help. Politically tricky.
