  1. Hi Guys. My Shimano 2 piece rod comes apart every 20 or so casts. Is there an easy fix to keep this from happening? Thanks, Peter
  2. Interesting. Never heard of a Wavespin real. Sounds like it might be a big improvement. Is the rest of the real made well? $80-100 on their site
  3. Thanks everybody. I'm using a Shamano Sahara 2500. Will try a lighter braid. Maybe 15lb. Get the odd muskie fishing for walleye/bass. 8-10 lb might be too light I'll get the Powerpro Super 8 Slick. Maybe Fireline. Will give you a report later. (BTW, noticed Shimano owns Powerpro on website) Also, flipping the bale manually sounds like a good idea. When I bought the reel it was suggested to do that anyway, no matter which line is used. thanks again. Peter
  4. Spent the last 2 wks at the cottage in the Kawarthas. The muskie bite was slow so concentrated on walleye and bass. I love my Powerpro for trolling. Can tell right away if I'm dragging weeds. It's great for casting too but..... Had several episodes using my spinning reel with 30 lb Powerpro, that after a bunch of casts, a massive knot/tangle comes off the spool. Pretty much have to cut the line and retie the fluorocarbon leader. Pain in the ass. I'm chucking smaller diving crankbaits and retrieving them in a slowjerk/pause fashion. After studying the situation, I think because the line goes slack immediately after the casted lure lands, or during a pause in the retrieve, the braid goes on the spool a little slack. I think it is that brief slack that is the problem. I'm not sure what to do. Does this happen to others? Would it be better to use a lighter Powerpro or other braid. A heavier lure? Stick to mono? Change my retrieve? I think there is a new type of Powerpro -smoother Any suggestions would be appreciated
  5. Well. IMHO you got the brands of the boat and motor right. Your size choice will depend on # of people you fish with and the size of body of water. I have a Lund 1750 and Yammy 115. Bought it in 2007 new as a multispecies boat including salmon trolling on Lake O. It's hardly big enough for Lake O but may be too big for the Kawarthas where I now cottage. It's nice to take 6-7 people for a boat ride though. Good luck finding used. Boat show in the winter best for new.
  6. Wow! thought those guys eat mainly plankton and kril
  7. Very concerning. Seems to be only a matter of time. Can't wait to have the Kawarthas destroyed by those stupid fish
  8. She's gotta me mad at herself for being fooled again. Will likely blame her man
  9. I see lots of SS props out there but in my mind can't justify the huge difference in cost and inability to repair them. Is the performance that much better?
  10. Beauty! Skinny like a Kawarthas fish. Maybe due to the alewife collapse in Huron?
  11. Garnet please clarify. Did you mean carp instead of carb?
  12. They put up a heck of a fight. But when you are expecting a ski or eye, they are a disappointment
  13. My take: fatty fish like alwives, herring, whitefish, trout equals large, fat muskies like on GB. Contrast the Kawarthas. Long fish but the weight isn't there. I suspect the French would be in between there. peter
  14. Welcome to the board. great Guys on the site. That's a healthy looking King. Thought they were skinny in Huron? peter
  15. Make sure you have deep water at the end of the dock in case of significant water level fluctuations in the Bay
  16. My Lund Tyee 17.5 came with a factory cover that snaps on beautifully. Trouble is, it was very snug and always a challenge to snap on. It is 4 yrs old and is already failing due to UV damage. Doesn't take much to tear it. My dealer can make a custom tarp that he says is better material for less than a new Lund tarp and he will make it a little less snug. I will take him up on it some day. Don't know $ peter
  17. I wonder if the muskies have learned that otherwise hiding preyfish are a bit spooked by the boat/prop. If they move, they show themselves and become vulnerable. Muskies therefore see a boat as a positive thing and actually come to a trolling boat. I'm going to ask the next one I catch.
  18. Thanks Lew. I will give it a try this season. Gotta be incredible to have a good fish take it just behind the boat.
  19. Interesting thread. So Lew, you would rather run one in the propwash and one out the side rather than 2 out the sides when trolling 2 rods? Would that be only when you are running close to structure like a weed edge/rocks? Or also out in open water?
  20. Don't forget the money you save on G**f ( 4 letter word)
