  1. Thinking about getting a small sailboat for the cottage. Used a small cattamaran type on vacation in Cuba a few years ago. Lots of fun. Looking at a Hobie Cat. Some take 1-4 people. Anybody have any experience with these? If you buy used, is there tax owing? thanks.
  2. Caught a 36 incher the other night after sunset slowtrolling in 25 ft for walleye with a chartruese diver. Wasn't expecting a ski.
  3. Spoke with a guy with an ATV club that trailers his carburated ATV to the trailhead. When it is very cold it won't start after trailering. Ices up I think. He has to start it at home, and run it while trailering. Thought that was odd, but he said his next one will be fuel injected. Yammys 550 and up are. Not sure why the 450 isn't. The Honda 420 is.
  4. talked to a number of avid ATV guys -they say fuel injection is a huge asset
  5. sounds good. is she fuel injected?
  6. Going to spend a week at the cottage. I have a weedbed about 10 ft out from my dock. At 30 ft out, it stops and there is about 15-20ft deep water I bought some glow in the dark slip floats and I was going to try some slammers or Gulp dropshotting just beyond the weedbed after dark from the dock. Will this work? Anybody try it? peter
  7. Just got back from Costco. Nativity scenes, artificial Christmas trees, gloves and coats are out My goodness. It's still August
  8. Topwater fishing!
  9. Hi Guys. Been snooping around for 1 or 2 ATVs for the family cottage for a while now. Talked to many folks and scoured the internet. We are not big people and I don't need a large machine. I need reliable more than anything. I think I've narrowed it down to the Honda TRX 420 PG CTE, or the Yamaha Grizzly 550. Both are fuel injected, have 4 wheel independent suspension and have power steering. Tried to find used but (holy crap) they hold their value well. Honda has the above machine on sale now- $7K plus PDI and tax. Want to poke around the cottage and hit the Haliburton trail system eventually, I'm tempted. Anybody have any suggestions? thanks, Peter
  10. wow. They look they're full of eggs but that can't be the case this time of year. Are their stomachs full of minnows crayfish or gobies? peter
  11. I know someone that has property on Thorah and they were given a permit by the MNR to shoot as many cormorant as they can whenever they want. Could this be true?
  12. Great solo fishing and netting. Those LSC skis like the figure eight peter
  13. Or....thinking about the 50 incher that got away....
  14. MANNNN! That's fishin'! Gotta get to LSC. Like I say, better than sex. peter
  15. nice! what did it grab?
  16. any fish?
  17. I know smallies eat gobies. And they are growing bigger than ever. Is it not also true, that they also clean out bass nests and have impacted numbers of young bass? I thought I heard on Erie there are few smaller bass caught. Or is that Bull? peter
  18. Didn't know there are muskies in Rosseau?
  19. Better fish crack of dawn. I would use the largest dypsie you have. Most guys use braid or wire. but it back 200-250 ft. (should have a line counter reel) Use a spoon, flasher and spoon, spin doctor and fly, or flasher and meat. Watch where others fish if you don't know where to fish. If you mark a ball of baitfish, circle back again and go thru it again. Most of all, if you go, especially in the evening, take a good look at local weather. especially windspeed and direction. Less than 20km/hr from the north, NW or NE. Less than 10-15km/hr from south, SW, SE or south Lake Ontario doesn't care if you drown.
  20. My advice would be to stay on the Trent System. Apparently the Haliburton lakes are down several feet so far this summer and will likely fall further. Perhaps 6-9 ft at the north end. Muskoka -pretty but pressured and no Muskie. As you know water levels are stable May-Oct on the Trent. Pretty tough to beat the Trent for fishing. Numbers/size/species. Boating. Proximity to home. Nuff said. Look at the north end of Sturgeon, Pigeon. Lower Buckhorn or Stoney. You want a hard bottom off the dock. Preferably deeper water. I'm at the north end of Pigeon. My only complaint is weekend boat traffic. Jetskis and wakeboard boats. Peter
  21. perhaps Doberman in there
  22. Good to know. I'll see how it is with topwater. I think stretch is a good thing when those smallies get airborn and shake their heads. Might keep a spool loaded with Trilene handy
  23. Can't beat a Yammy!
  24. Thanks Gents. I'll try some wax first
  25. Since the weather sucks, what better way to spend a Saturday than at my neighbourhood tackle shop. Busy in there today. I've posted before about frustration with 30lb Powerpro coming off my Sahara spinning rod in large knots casting/jerking crankbaits. Bought 15lb Powerpro Super 8 Slick to try.( couple bucks more) The salesrep said it is a significant improvement. He also recommended Fireline Crystal for the same purpose. Said because it's hard to see, a fluorocarbon leader is not necessary. Anybody try these? I'll post results later in the season thanks, Peter
