I want to counter that Scotty story with one of my own. I have three of the Scotty Depthmaster manual riggers. Have had them for about 10 years. Over the years I have had the screws that hold the arm into the base fall out , so finally replaced the nuts with nyloc and they stay put now. I have snapped off the depth counter a couple times doing stupid things. Since they are plastic they will sometimes break if they get whacked. Both times they directed me to a local warranty approved shop and the parts were given to me no charge and no questions asked. Same thing for when I broke the pins taking one apart to free a cable tangle under the spool. I was using pliers instead of a wrench. My mistake - free replacement. Now I did not ask for free shipping, I went to their recommended shop. But after that, I have nothing but good things to say about Scotty's after sales service. And when I upgrade to electrics, they will be Scotty's. (if there are ever enough salmon in Georgian Bay to make it worth the $$)

I get ragweed allergy bad. So bad my skin gets itchy, want to claw my eyes out and get stuffed up so I cant breath right. I suffered for years until I finally tried my current routine. Here is my routine: I take Aerius allergy pills once a day starting in early august till first frost.i tried the others, but I find Aerius works for me. I use Cromolyn eye drops. You have to put them in several times a day and it takes a week or so before you notice a change. And the most important thing is to get a prescription for steroid nasal spray like Flonase (Fluticasone). That stuff works wonderfully. I think it even helps with the symptoms other than the nose.. With all three, I am pretty much clear. I still can feel it a bit after golfing, but totally liveable. My sister tried getting the shots, but they did not work at all. I know a lot of people think that the issue is all of the chemicals in our lives. That may be why our immune systems got so wacky, but once an immune system is set up, I don't think you can change the process by avoiding the chemicals. For those of you that are trying, more power to you. Life is too short for me to be miserable two months out of every year.

Honey Harbour for Island Camping and Bass fishing
Canuck replied to Paul A's topic in General Discussion
If you have a canoe or boat, one of the nicest Georgian Bay parks is the Massassauga. Its south of Parry Sound in the Moon river basin. Its got lots of typical mixed species and good camp sites. I have only boated in, but have had good luck with bass and pike everytime I go. -
You mean like like the next morning with a hangover and a nasty toe??? It did hurt pretty bad. Now I wear Keens sandals with toes arount the dock (at least when I remember to put them on)
-
I've done it many many times. I have long toes and they seem to find things to whack into. I find its more painful to try to do anything with tape. Just leave it alone and avoid tight shoes. It will get better on its own after a week or so. The worst one was when I had a few wobbly pops staying on the boat at Big Sound marina. Their dock cleats are painted BLACK!. Bad idea. I was wobbling full speed back to the boat to drain off a pop and get a new one and I nailed a cleat barefoot. Peeled the nail off, cut the skin back and broke the toe. Now that was painful even through the haze.

Right in the City the Don Valley Golf Course is a pretty nice course for a city owned course. Its slow play though and you probably cant get a tee time on short notice, but he could try if he is a single.

Costco has 3 packs of 40W equivalents for less than 20 bucks. they work great.

I heard that if the sunshine girl's description says she likes horses its an inside joke and that it means the photographer got some action with her.

i bought a sealed AGM from Sayal Electronics in Burlington. I think its a backup for a security system. Works great and does not have to be right side up. It fits in my portable Eagle's case so its great. i don't know the amp hrs though.

Good point. still not the end of the world. But a whole bunch of wind turbines, now that is another story entirely.

we can hear the testing at the Meaford tank range at our place across the bay in Lafontaine. not the end of the world

I have used the Starbrite brand waterproofing and I find it does soften up sunbrella fabric type of tops. If your tops have vinyl backing and have dried out I dont think there is much you can do to soften them.

Costco has Garmins at a good price. i got one with a traffic feature that uses FM traffic signals to choose least traffic routes. Seems to work OK in Toronto. i have used both tomtom and garmin They are both good. I like tomtom interface better, but they are both easy to use. Get one with lifetime map updates.

Its almost certainly swimmers itch. We get it up at our place near 15 concession. The last few years have been better than others, but its still around. Its a parasite that goes from snails to merganser ducks, then is in the water at one stage in life. its more common in shallower water where the snails are which is why that area of Georgian Bay has it. People are not the target host. They bury into the skin and die, but for people that are sensitive to it, it can be really itchy. I am sensitive so I get really itchy welts that get "weepy" for a few days after. If you shower off right away when you get out of the water you can reduce it a bit. Some say towelling off well helps too, but not for me. I have found that putting on some baby oil on the skin before you swim helps a lot. We do also get "no see-ums" at the beach too though. They give a nasty bite for a little fly you can barely see. For me its different from the swimmers itch though. Much less itchy and no weepy welts.

Fishing the mouth of the Humber - YEUCH!

When I lived in Sudbury lots of people would go out at night and catch a mess of them. The old guys would nail the head to a board and peel the skin and guts off in one pull. They could do a dozen in less than 5 minutes. Very tasty in spring. A bit muddy tasting in summer and they would milk soak them for a few hours sometimes to take that away.

Costco has or had Maui Jim's earlier this summer. I posted about it.

Get an intelligent charger that has multiple charge rates. The good ones match charge rates to the type of battery. For deep cycles they will really help extend the life of the battery. The other charge rate and amp rating advice above is bang on as well. You want a charger big enough to charge at the proper rates. In the off season, you can leave the battery tender on full time. Check it periodically and check batter water levels too.

I think someone may have posted this before. If so, apologies.

I thnk pike is really good to eat. If I get one over 5lbs I don't bother to remove the y bones, just filet them, deep fry and eat around the bones. I give the picky eaters the boneless tail pieces. I think breaded and deep fried pike is probably my second favourite after walleye. You virtually never get grubs in pike. I love perch too, but if I find one grub cleaning them, I have a tough time forgetting about it when I eat them. I know that they won't hurt you after cooking, but the ick factor stays with me.

The ones I got are are Lahainaluna model with tortoise shell arms with bronze utrathin glass lenses (which are bit heavier but better than polycarbonate for lasting and not scratching). They are basically this shape except for the colour. The black ones are $339 at Sunglasses Hut. http://www.sunglasshut.com/ca/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10102&urlLangId=-1&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&langId=-1&productId=50787&storeId=10154

There are quite a few things like that. I would hate to add up the total I paid for what is in my tackle box! Anyway, its a good price for glass lens high quality sunglasses.
-
I just got a killer deal on a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses at Costco (Ridgeway in Mississauga). $99 for polarized amber with glass lenses. The last pair I bought were similar and were $300 at Sunglasses Hut. They only had three styles, but one style was great for boating/fishing. I love the Maui Jim's and this is a great price even if they are older models.

Lots of info on the web. The salesman is an actor. It's a commercial after all! Still funny though. But not as funny as the hundreds of youtube videos of jiggly women passengers in hot cars and trucks. Kinda brings out the 16 yr old in this 50 yr old!

What do you do when you come across a bad car crash? - NF
Canuck replied to NAW's topic in General Discussion
Everyone has do do what they feel the need to, but I think you should stay. People and witnesses go into shock and may not be thinking straight. I have come across two serious crashes in my life as first on the scene. Both times I or my wife had to do CPR until EMS arrived. Neither was fun or successful unfortunately, but I don't have any doubts about what I could have done, which gives a bit of peace. One rant though. One of the times was on the 407 between the QEW and 401. A guy had a heart attack driving with his wife and his truck went off the road about 50yds into the swamp. It was winter so I ran out through knee deep water and mud and snow. Then called 911 on my cell when I saw what happened and started CPR in the truck. Then the frustrating part. EMS arrived and refused to walk out to the truck because they cannot enter the water. I yelled to follow my f'ing footsteps its only mud up to your knee. They said no, they would have to wait for the fire department. After about 5 or 10 min an EMS supervisor arrives and I yell the same thing and say that I have very old CPR training and they need to come out and now. The supervisor finally tells one of he EMS us to go out to relieve me. I carry the wife back to the side of the road to the other EMS guy. Apologies to all the EMS guys on this board, but the lack of ability under policy for an EMS guy to use judgment is crazy. I don't think the old guy would have lived anyway, but its nuts for a qualified EMS guy to watch from 50 yes away while a civilian does CPR at a crash site.
