When I stored I would always arrange to be the last in because I wanted to be one of the first out. Smaller facility, no forklift, boats were moved around with a ball mounted on a old manual push reel lawn mower chassis.

Used to get a few good sized ones 14-16 inch in Erie off riggers and divers fishing the eastern end for Yellow Pickeral, maybe 2 pounds or a bit more , nothing quite that big, never kept one for the table

The secret is they were truly silver plated as opposed to chrome plated, just like the silver Williams, plus they have good action. When Haliburton was my stomping grounds the modus operandi was Spec Lake = E.G.B , preferably copper toned and a Bow Lake= Silver Alligator with the 1/4 red stripe. If the new ones are not real silver plate I wouldn't drop the cash.

Yep, spent years in that area many moons ago, Little Esson is about 60 feet deep max so that 20 contour is metres. If you can find some Delfin Alligators they are dynamite on Haliburton Bows.

Less ice to jam at river mouths, that is a big problem on the Grand. Ice boom came out a couple of days ago at Fort Erie, that is way early.

30+ years living walking distance from the Grimsby pier and several other spots, get quite a few lakers in the spring and the occasional coho from shore. Don't ever recall a spring chinook from shore but get them in the fall when they start sniffing around the creeks and harbour mouth with spawning urges. Browns are the main fish with lakers number 2, bows seems to lurk closer to outflows in spring cause of the spawning thing.

I catch all three shorecasting between Fifty Point to Grimsby pier, numerous parks and road allowances that dead end at the lake . Cleos , Crocs , Alligators and white curly tail jigs all take fish.

I'm sorry but as an angler and former fly fishing guy I don't get wanting the Atlantic back as a sport fish. I grew up in the 50's/ 60's watching greats like Lee Wulff and Ted Williams fishing the Miramichi and other east coast rivers on American Sportsmen. Catching the fish of kings as I have heard it called in one of the Lake Ontario ditches would be akin to some of penned type big game hunts, just not on my bucket list.

IMHO life was a lot better when a family could make a good living working a farm and big businesses like the automakers , steelmakers and up north paper and lumber mills were welcomed by the powers in government.

NF rant about animal neglect accusations
dave524 replied to manitoubass2's topic in General Discussion
here as well, the neighbours on both sides and directly behind me are the same as when I moved here in 84, the house directly across the street , well the couple that lived there when I moved here passed but the grand daughter and her husband and 2 kids live there now. -
the keys words actually come after " brutally or viciously " as in " regardless of whether the animal dies immediately " so your immediate stunning with a blow to the head could be construed by some to be brutal as it is not lethal/humane. I consider a bullet to the brain or decapitation as humane but because of the associated gore factor many could say they are vicious or brutal.

I know it's a wiki quote but you can see where they can go with some of this wording, I always thought the Germans and Swiss had their heads screwed on tighter than some other Euro Countries, guess not. " In Switzerland and Germany, catch and release fishing is considered inhumane and is now banned.[5] In Germany, the Animal Welfare Act states that "no-one may cause an animal pain, suffering or harm without good reason".[6] This leaves no legal basis for catch and release due to its argued inherent lack of "good reason", and thus personal fishing is solely allowed for immediate food consumption. Additionally, it is against the law to release fish back into the water if they are above minimum size requirements and aren't aprotected species or in closed season. "

Unfortunately, at 65 I've seen the " fringe " become the norm 10/20 years down the road too many times in my lifetime to even take a single step down that road anymore. We must be vigilante and united as fishermen , hunters, trappers and shooting sports enthusiasts and stop being divided and our own worst enemy , throwing one another under the bus. If we do not stand together we will fall individually.

Did anyone get the Amber Alert last night?
dave524 replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
We have Fibe , but I wasn't paying attention , but I didn't hear anything from my wife so I'm guessing it was a non event here. Still , interrupting a PVR recording is puzzling. -

I must be a member of the tinfoil hat club , but them having the ability to interrupt a recorded program is over the line . What is it ? a smart TV and part of your internet network, the recorded program maybe on a PVR Hard drive , I'm not understanding how this worked. -
Started with steelhead decades ago but now use up eye snelled hooks for almost all applications. This is the knot I've used for 30 some years with no issues. Any fly tiers who can whip finish without a tool will quickly get the 2 finger twirl, for me, it is as quick as a clinch knot. If you don't snug the knot up to the eye you can fish yarn or skein in the loop for bows. http://www.steelheader.net/knots/whip_finish.htm

what song are you listening to right now???
dave524 replied to fishing n autograph's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I was lucky enough to be born in 1950 so that 60's era of folk music revival was part of my teens, no decade since has produced as finely crafted songs as then. This guy also was at the top of his game then but somehow never did reach the popularity of Dylan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlVfVBFdMaM -
Interesting video on effects of fish handling

The cotton glove is frequently used at various fish ladders and lift stations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCJVdgg0lQQ -

I've found it rare that people actually have the nails pull out and lose a whole shingle, most of the wind damage I've seen is on roofs a few years old and usually on a south facing slope where the sun has started them curling a bit and the wind rips off a tab here and there.
