  1. Ice ducer doesn't support imaging....
  2. i have a bird 597ci hd di that has 5 inch screen color gps dual beam sonar and down imaging... from cabelas to my door in canada was about 700 bucks... then another 200 for the icefishing portable kit with transducer.... the down imaging is a 100 dollar feature with humminbird.... but to be honest...i dont use the down imaging very often... but maybe i havent figured out the best situation to use it yet... 5 inch screen is fine for split screen gps/sonar... but i have 20/20 vision... anyways.... loving the unit...and being able to use it on the ice was a huge bonus... i sold my vex for the ice kit with no regrets...
  3. for pickerel...aka walleye... im running minimum 2mph against 2-3mph current... and some spots up to 3-3.5mph if the current is slower... mind you in late fall i slow down a lot... for musky... one of my best "evening" trips last year we boated 3 musky in an hour once we figured out how fast they wanted it...first fish was at 8mph gps speed going with the current... the next was 7mph against the current... then another at 8mph with the current...3 runs..3 musky... ive seen it where i get 3 runs in at a spot while another boat there only gets one... and the numbers of fish are about the same...lol ...
  4. i rip fast for pickerel... musky is a drag race... did you consider a trolling plate on your motor instead... it sucks pulling up drift socks in cold temps...
  5. St.Lawrence river... theres a few walleye in that river...
  6. this sounds like your against teaching a child to be a good loser... or in other words...accepting failure gracefully...and anybody that is willing to accept any failure is a "loser"... thats how it read to me... theres even a commercial on WFN where a pro angler says the key to being a successful tournament angler is to be a good loser... dont go pout about it...congratulate the winner and try to figure out what he did to beat you that day... which to me means accepting failure that day...but learning and growing from it to succeed in the long run...
  7. Next time try drop offs near tribs/creeks and check the pot holes... We got some smallies really late in the year(dec) on main shoreline drop offs near river mouths... These are the same rivers they spawn in... So if they are at the mouths in the winter... And in the river during spawn... They can't be far prespawn... That's here anyways...
  8. Had a couple inches of snow here when I got up this morning...
  9. You say your against teaching kids to fail... So are the rest of us... Nobody is trying to teach their kids to fail and lose at everything... But to cope and learn from failures and accept that they happen to everyone from time to time... That's how I understood the article anyways...
  10. I find smallies in tribs here in the spring...by accident mind you... Some early walleye spots are rocky sections of tribs to the Larry....and sometimes it's stupid how many smallies are in there... But that's mid may to mid June....that's spawning time for bass here...So I don't know if that's tge time period your having trouble with
  11. That's the only reason I made a reply... I wanted to be considered a pro...lol...
  12. Very true... It feels good being able to catch fish when it "should" be slowest...or not the popular time to fish...like catching bass at night...or walleye in 12 feet of crystal clear water on a blue bird day... I think it's the ability to catch under the less then ideal conditions that puts an angler at the next level of fishing...if you can do good during the "slow" times then peak periods are a breeze...
  13. Depends on lots of things skip... Fish with "night vision" like walleye and musky can be caught 24 hours a day... But for predators like this I've found in most cases they bite best from supper time (5pm) till a bit after dark... Perch always seem to bite better in the morning... Like 1 hour after sunrise till 10 or 11 am... And scent feeders like carp and catfish are also 24 hour feeders... But even with them I find evenings good for cats and mornings good for carp... Hope this helps a bit...
  14. I'd imagine some rivers dumping into lake O have walleye in the spring... I know on the st.lawrence we have 2 different spawns... 1 in the tribs 1 on rock/gravel flats on the main river.... I'd think lake O has some trib spawn walleye...
  15. Sweet catch... And don't worry about keeping them... If you kept 50 jumbos in the summer that's ok in most peoples eyes... Even tho those are the same fish that turn into slobs with eggs in em the spring...
  16. nice healthy pike... and that video is too funny...
  17. depends on your definition of success i guess... like the saying goes "the world needs ditch diggers" we cant all be superstars on TV or make millions on wall street... or grow up to be firefighters and police officers like we hoped in kindergarden... sometime people just dont have it in them to succeed at certain things... and sometimes its totally out of their control whether or not they succeed... ive failed at many things in my life... but have had plenty of success... ive learned more from the failures in my life then success... i know im gunna raise my son to recognize "failure" and teach him to learn and grow from it...
  18. nice catch buddy... our crappie bite shut down after that warm weather came to an end...never really got into any GOOD days of fishing... our walleye HERE taste as good as perch in my opinion...and e few other "perch lovers" have said the same...i gave a guy a pack the other day....it was his first time eating anything other then perch.... he said it was just as good... little trick is to cut your fillets lengthwise to create 2 thinner fillets when eating bigger fish like bass...walleye...pike...etc...then your butter...batter...garlic...lemon...whatever you ad in has the same ratio to perch...
  19. They eat big fish if the opportunity presents itself... We had a cage in the river when I was younger for keeping minnows... Well one day we got a bunch of smallies... So we tossed em in the cage to clean later.... Later never came... The blue herons emptied the cage... 12-15 smallies up to 3.5-4 pounds...
  20. Nice... If you ever need another guy in the boat....feel free to pm me... Lol... I wish
  21. Jigging spoons during the day... Trolling deep divers at night
  22. im looking for 3 of the same tires... hows the prices there?
  23. ok... i only like fireline for jigging walleye... everything else is power pro or tuffline... i troll walleye with 10lb power pro and get big musky all the time... didnt break off once last year... i love power pro but at the really high strengths...it takes a while to break it in... thats when i go to tuffline...
  24. first why are you switching? second what technique are you using the line for?
