  1. I use to catch those in Lake Ontario when I was a kid in the nuclear plant ( when you were still allowed in there) Great fight and when you caught one there was more of them to follow. never caught one that big thou. Good looking fish. nick
  2. I would consider myself new still to this forum. I do spend a lot of time reading reports from everyone and whatever tidbit of tips from other posts. I understand how some people that have been on the forum are a little skiddish with posting on newbie threads about spots. There are a lot of "members" that are here today and gone tomorrow. There is not way to filter these people so newbies really have to work to gain some respect. Its just like meeting people in person ( yes people still do that without a keyboard). If I meet you for the first time will you tell me all your secrets? NO! Get to know me (everyone) and you'll get the answers you need when i'm ( we're) comfortable with you. Getting out and fish/hunt it is still better than sitting at home doing Chores! Post a report and you're good.... Happy posting all! nick
  3. I have seen examples of what you are referring to BUT that's with travellers all over the world. Even ones from Ontario! Its the person NOT the country/city/province they are from. I have met some really nice people from Quebec in my travels. We have some interesting conversations about hockey while sipping on Cerveza smoking a stogie. Man I want to go on vaca again! Nick
  4. definitely stop at Schwartz! 3895 Saint-Laurent Boulevard · Montréal, Québec · H2W 1X9 · Smoked meat is amazing. Expect to line up and its not a fancy place. Worth the wait! I usually bring a cooler with me to montreal and take some smoked meat home with me. Another thing, buy beer! Its cheaper in Que. so worth it to bring back. I've heard ( don't know if my buddy was messing with me) that you can buy 80 cans of beer at Costco for $55. . Regardless enjoy your trip. Its beautiful there and you won't have an issue with speaking English with everyone. Nick
  5. some really nice looking fish! How did that peacock fight? Nick
  6. what a monster!!! Great fish. Its going to be really hard to top that beauty Nick

    Oh Canada

always love seeing your pics!! You have a real creative eye and really capture the beauty of things. Nick
  8. I was reading reviews on Trip advisor and it seems okay. ( I hope!) When we went to Cuba we experienced what you experienced in Samana. 100's of locals, bad food, bugs everywhere ( we had a tarantula outside our door) and locals FILLING the pools ( not a big deal, I can swim in a pool here, I don't have an Ocean in Ontario). I wouldn't go back to Cuba eventhough its much cheaper for a family of 4. Shrimp is last resort. I am hoping to run into slightly bigger even though those little guys in saltwater fight like 3lb bass! I heard the same thing from a few friends that were on a cruise. I am always on alert especially with my family in tow. The begging and drugs don't bug me, I have experienced that all here. I am going there with an open mind and very excited to get away. We are pretty low maintenance so as long as there are no bugs in my room that can kill me, food doesn't get me sick , cold drinks and fishing is good from the beach I am one happy camper! @ BillM I don't know if I could steal cooked shrimp. I'm afraid they won't last the walk to the beach . I hope to give all of you a report after my trip. If i'm skunked by the 3rd day there I'm going to get some shrimp. Its not much of a resort if I don't have any pics of any fish. Nick
  9. Can't wait for this week to end. A group of us are heading down to Samana Dominican Republic for 7 days. We're staying at the Grand Bahia Prinicipe El Portillo. I've already packed my rod and reel for some shore fishing. Just looking to see if anyone had been to the resort and have had any luck casting a few lures? I hope to be able to give a report after my trip. Nick
  10. I haven't used braid before but I know with Mono you can spool the line backwards which usually causes a lot of tangles. Nick
  11. that's a beast of a fish!! Old man's smile is priceless and i'm sure the one on your face while you took this pic was equally big! Nick
  12. you set that bar pretty high with helping her catch that monster!!! Congrats on the engagement. Happy wife, happy life! Nick
  13. Man I would be pissed!! I'm always on Kijiji looking for Baitcasters so I'll keep my eyes open Nick
  14. great report. Seems like the dads and kids had a very memorable trip. Nick
  15. you are a better man than me. I would of pushed him and his female friend in the water and maybe relieved myself in his boat. Kudos for you for remaining calm and also great to hear you were alright. Nick
  16. I love their fishing vests! Looks like the kids had lots of fun. Nick
  17. you know how much money you saved by going fishing instead of Wonderland?!?!?
  18. That's all he got?!?!?!?! That's nothing if you ask me. The guy was probably trying to show off to the family. I was on the Trent river this past weekend with LOTS of boating traffic with my family ( wife, 5 year old and 3 year old). If this happened to me I would of been on the news. He should have his boating operator license suspended for 5 years to teach him a lesson. Nick
  19. what the hell!! Good news is that you were able to post this report and we didn't have to hear about it on the news! How can they not see you guys?
  20. Those are some Amazing photos! Great job capturing the fun times and the beauty of your surroundings. Nick
  21. my boys started with Ice fishing rods with a spinning reel. I bought them an ultra light rod ( 5') and a decent ultra lite reel for this year. They love it. Its nicely weighted and they don't get tired from holding it. ( my boys are 5 and 3). nick
  22. Glad you and the Mrs. were able to boat a few of them. looked like a great day to be out! Nick
  23. what an awesome report. What a way to spend your birthday! Nick
