  1. Its great that you were able to see the reason for working was for the Kids. I know that is the reason I go to work. There has to be an end goal. You taught your kids the most important lesson in life. Family should always come first. You can't buy those fun times just horsing around with your kids at a young age. Congrats on the new job! Nick
  2. fantastic read!! It felt like i was right there with you guys..
  3. interesting concept. I do agree people should learn to "lose" we can't win all the time ( except in my wife's case ) I do think teaching kids how to lose should be a reactive lesson thou. Why not teach them that you can succeed at everything? Why not have them constantly striving for the best? That makes them know that the possiblity is endless! I've played competitive sports my whole life and I know how to lose... ( i've played for some really bad teams) When I lost i knew that we did not play our best that day. The other team was just more focused and better that day. Losing is a good thing. You learn from them and in the long run you will be a better team or person. Kids should learn how to Lose gracefully. They should be taught that you should respect the team/person that did better. If you learn how to respect you learn that losing is just a lesson that someone that wins teaches you to win next time.
  4. That is great news. Made me smile when I watched you bang that Gong!! Good luck and Enjoy life!
  5. yes be sure you have it documented. Your Employer may not pay you for the Vacation accrued. Many Employers will ask you to leave immediately if you go to a competitor or if they don't want you to start something you won't be able to finish or follow up on or they give you 2 weeks off just as a thank you for your service. Just be sure you atleast gave them a termination letter.
  6. congrats. that was a great video!
  7. Thank you for your report. I'll be going to Discovery Bay in August so i'm going to try my luck there. Did you only fish in the mornings? Nick
  8. I went last week and Rap. jiggin raps (perch) and swedish pimple's worked the best. The spoon really brought the jumbo's in. VB is very clear so you can see them underneath you. Jigg, jigg and pound the mud a little and set the hook. Good luck. Nick
  9. great advise. i'm going to use Thread. Yarn is really hard to work with. if you can find those pics please PM me. I'm thinking of letting a red piece of yarn stick out a little like a jig. I appreciate the help!
  10. That makes sense. Problem is i don't know if I can fool something to bite my creation. Best way to find out is to throw it down the hole and jig away...
  11. my problem is tying the yarn/thread after i'm done wrapping. Any tips on how I can do it without it coming undo?
  12. I posted this on the Lake Simcoe board but I thought I would repost. Looking for any feedback. Anyone that can help me make these better i'm all ears. After reading about how well a Simcoe bug does I decided to try and make one myself. Its not as nice and polished as the diagram I saw but its was the best I could do with limited skill. You know what they say, practise makes perfect. I used the "paint" i found in my wife's makeup box. I'm going to give these guys a try next week! If they work I'll make more. Does anyone have a better picture of how a real Simcoe bug looks like? If they work well i'd be happy to send one to anyone that helps me out. ( let me rethink that.... I'll send one to the first 5 people, i don't think I can make hundrends of these)
  13. i think its a strawberry grouper.. Went last summer and didn't have the same Luck. looked like a really good time!
  14. i didn't see this on the news!! hhhmmm i guess tomorrow's weather is not going to make the lake any better. Mother Nature has to decide if it's hardwater season or softwater season. is that a house boat?
  15. too many horror stories of "un-educated" fishermen not knowing the waters and ice thickness this year. I would pay not to be a story or statistic. Thanks for the advice thou. Man I really need to get out!!!!!!!
  16. thanks for everyone's input! I know its up to me to catch the fish but as long as they put me close to the action thats all i can really ask for. Thanks FishLogic for the links. I may just check out Gilford. Keep 'em coming if you guys have any more sugguestions. Nick
  17. Hi Everyone, I'm looking for some good recommendations for hut rentals for Simcoe. I know i've read in the past that Dave's Fish huts are pretty good but i'm looking to hear some feedback from this year. We're just looking for some jumbo's and maybe the odd pike or anything that will tug the line. We've been to Scugog a couple times this year but 3 inch dinks is not something I would report back. I did manage to hook onto a pretty big muskie but that was lost pretty fast on 4lb line. ( its true and not a "fisherman's" tale ) If you have any other sugguestions i would be happy to hear them. I'm not very familar with that part of simcoe so I'd rather be safe. I'm looking to book on Feb. 11th. Thank you in advance. Nick
  18. great story! I think i'm going to call my dad to see if he wants to go fishing. There isn't enough time in a day or week or even a month in that matter. Sometimes you just have to make time... thats for making me realize that. Great to hear you two had some great father and son time. Catching some fish was just a bonus Nick
  19. Probably doesn't apply to you Johnnyb but the CT at McCowan and Sheppard is sold out ( No Rainchecks either. They have 1 in pickering, 1 in Uxbridge and 2 at Markham and 14th. this was at 11:30. Too bad its too far for me to drive there during my lunch. Seems like a good deal. I would love to hear some feedback from anyone that has one or buys one. Nick
  20. i'm not 100% it would work but get a sim card that is not hooked up and put it in there. You'll be able to use the camera, apps and wifi but it won't be linked to any number to get charged.
  21. I can't wIt to go. Looking forward to hopefully posting some pics for everyone
  22. I am leaving for Varadaro Cuba tomorrow and hope to get some fishing in. I don't want to bring my saltwater rod case as I told the Mrs. "I don't think i'll go out but if I do have some time when the kids are sleeping I want to be prepared..." I bought a telescopic medium action rod that I'm going to pack in my suitcase ( save $25 for extra baggage) and going to pair it with a hefty saltwater spinning reel. My question is for the guys/gals that have been fishing out that way, do you think a medium action is too light? I'm just fishing from shore ( i hope) and not really targeting anything. I've seen that you can catch cuda's from shore but is that going to snap my rod in half like a toothpick? I've googled fishing in Varadaro Cuba to death and there isn't much info so hopefully if I do get out and successful I'll have an awesome post to re-live my experience. Nick
  23. hahahahahah... thank you all for your replies. I think I'll give them a ring when I'm not at work incase other's think i'm plotting something.
  24. so its not like the US where all I will need is a Driver's license and a pulse to purchase a gun. Now here is the part i'm confused and maybe the board may not be able to answer. I haven't had a valid FAC for about 10 years now. Guns are with Dad who has a valid license so not worries there is no firearms in my house or possesion. Do you think i would still have to re-take the firearm safety course? I did my course when I was 18 and I'm 35 now so I can't find the actual paper that says i've completed the course.
  25. I know I can google this myself but I figured I'd ask the wise people on the board instead. What I understand is that if you do not have a PAL or FAC now you will not need it after the fall if the bill passes. I use to have a FAC ( back when it was called that) and it has LONG since expired. Would I need to go through the process of re-taking the courses all over again or that is not needed. thank you in advance for your help. Nick
