I think many of us here are parents so the overall concern for the safety of Hayden was top of mind. Its great to see that your little man is getting hooked on fishing so soon and having more luck at it than some seasoned vets ( myself included). Half of teaching a youngster how to fish is How to be safe. I was taught that way and I can't wait till my little guys are old enough so I can teach them the same. Great story! Your dad is a very brave man.... You mentioned that you are a fireman, did this act of heroism have something to do with your career choice? I know most fathers here would say that they would react the same if they were in the same shoes ( i know I would) but to have to decided in the short time that he did should be commended. Sick Kids is a great hosiptal and the staff is very experienced. Made me a little choked up cuz my little boy is named Jacob and I can't image how much of an emotional rollercoaster this must be. Kids are tough and they bounce back really quickly. Your little boy is definately in my prayers. Be strong for him and he'll be strong for you. Keep us updated on how the little boy is doing.

that is the craziest thing i've seen.... I'm glad to hear you are alright... you can replace a truck but your life is a different story... on the bright side you'll always have this as a crazy story to tell your friends..

in a way it is comforting for the "minority" fisherpeople ( since we are trying to be politically correct) that there are members here that find these types of situations insulting and uncalled for also. IMHO i think the best way to elimate this is just to educate our younger fisherpeople that we are all equal and we are all out there to enjoy something we love. I've experienced this for over 30 years, has anything changed... maybe a little... will it continue?... Maybe.... hearing some of these comments from fellow fisherpeople ( okay this is getting over used!) we are moving in the right direction. I hope my 18 month old little boy will never have to experience "nip tipping" stories or " get off my lake CH**K"... Hope to see some of you on the lake! Let have fun out there!

Very well said.. not only look to ensure your child is okay... keep an eye on other people's kids.... I know i'd rather have someone question a person that they don't regularly see pick up my son or talk to my son than to hear about it when he's missing. It is a very sad event and NO PARENT should ever go through it. Most of the replies to this thread are from parents with kids themselves, i don't want to speak on behalf of all of them but I'm sure that there is a lot of anger towards the cowards that did this and if I were put in this situation ( God forbid!) I would want to be the one that punishes them. RIP Tori...

that is very true... I'm going to outright say it.. I'm Asian and I don't need to re-enforce the stereotype. The lake is big enough that I can find little honey holes from shore. I've asked a couple buddies that have cottages there to see if they know but they have never really noticed it. One way to find out... I'm going to head over there one of these weeks and I'll post my findings.

I agree.... I'd be surprised if that guy lasted more than 2 minutes.. What were these people thinking? there is no way to get away with it nor was there anyway they would see any $$ from doing this. That little girl has her whole life infront of her... Very sad day!

Just think of it as a piercing. Kids get them all the time now. Earrings, Lip rings, nipple rings, etc, just think of it as the minnow wanting to be stylish in the water...

i'll eat the 1-2 lbs ones.. don't keep fish much thou... Pictures last much longer! i guess if you fry and batter any fish its not too bad.

Sheephead is not that bad eating. The meat is dense like bass but not quite as tasty. You do get a little bit of the muddy taste but overall not bad. I would eat a sheephead before i eat a carp or a sucker.

I tried it once (on a dare) and it was NASTY. Not something you would want to eat.

good lake.. LOTS of smallies there. I went in august and used lots of cranks and jigs. Did pretty good. Mostly rocks and drop offs so you'll have lots of fun!
