  1. Well, you might have the owner of the phone but all he'd have to do is claim the phone was stolen! A bat or casserol dish might be a good choice if you are young and fit, I'm still in pretty good shape for my age. I was trained in unarmed combat, I was pretty good. I am also smart enough to realize that in a physical confrontation with some young punk they would have the upper hand. If someone is prepared to rob me then they probably aren't going to worry about some old man or woman getting in their way.
  2. Ok, now we just have to figure out how to get it to you. Any suggestions? I might be going up to Beaverton again in the next week or so if that helps.
  3. Picture perfect!
  4. I have a Boy O Boy one pice survival suit size large, camo pattern. It is in perfect condition (except that it needs to be cleaned because it's been hanging in my garage for a couple of years). This is free to anyone that wants (can use it) first come basis. I've been trying too many of the recipies on the cooking thread and it doesn't fit anymore.
  5. We have to get together before you plan anything. Sue and I did the East Coast thing three years ago and had a wonderful time, If all goes according to plan we'll be back down there this summer with a motor home. We loved everywhere we went but I have to say PEI was our favorite. We stayed in motels and booked all our rooms through a website, it worked out perfectly for us! We went clam digging, I went fishing in PEI $45.00 for a half day, we caught mackerel, grouper, learned how to dig clams and cook them. Got a really good education on lobster. The food was fantastic the people were incredable. We went down through the US and came back through Canada, had a wonderful time in Trois Riviere one night on the way back, taught a very pretty young French lady some English and she taught us some French, it was a blast! We never got to NFLD but that is on our list for this summer.
  6. All the very best to the whole family!
  7. It's so easy to be judge and jury when we don't know all the facts. If I heard or saw something outside at 3 am I would probably go out to see what was going on and IF I had a gun handy I would probably take it with me just in case and IF someone did attack me I would probably fire a warning shot right at their chest. It's easy to say "I'd beat them up" but I'm 70, my days of fist fighting are long over. As far as calling 911; what could I tell them? I think there is someone or something outside my house? I live 15 minutes outside of town, it could be someone hurt or looking for help?
  8. I couldn't get your link to open but I did find this one. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/news/hamilton-homeowner-who-confronted-suspected-truck-thief-charged-with-murder-1.3433230 I hope he shot him while he was facing him, at least then he could claim the guy was attacking and he feared for his life.
  9. Boy you just can't catch a break can you? At least you have time to do some looking! Kawarthas maybe?
  10. At least he had the decency to plead guilty and not drag the whole thing out in court. I have no doubt that if he had wanted to Greenspan could have had him out on bail a long time ago then dragged this through the courts for years! He killed 4 innocent people, I would hope he'd do at least 5 years on each count but I doubt that will happen.
  11. Oh man, I am so sorry to hear that! You have to wonder what happened to make the dog snap and worse yet you have to wonder if you can ever trust the dog again especially with small children around. Sounds like the kindest thing you can do for the cat is have it put down, a broken back can't be fixed. As for the dog...... I know what I would do as hard as it might be!
  12. Canada Revenue Agency
  13. I just told them to talk to my accountant, when they asked who that was I told them to just look on my tax forms it was all right there. They just hung up.
  14. When I was out yesterday there was still plenty of ice out of Beaverton. I'm sure that Tim wouldn't take a chance if he even thought there might be a problem, it sure wouldn't be good for business if he did have an accident!
  15. I would be going with the two stroke air cooled personally! I think Drifter did a really good job of summing it up!
  16. That is awesom fishing/catching !
  17. Woke up yesterday morning and found out I had the day off; sat here for a bit reading the fishing reports and decided that I'd take a run over to Tim's and see if he had any huts available. It was last minute, I didn't have a reservation, and I didn't leave here until almost 7:30 so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I arrived there was a sign on the door saying they were out on the ice but to call their number. Kim (Tim's wife) answered, said she'd be right down (what a sweetheart), got me all fixed up and aranged for me to meet Tim over at the harbour. Well it turned out to be a wonderful choice; 5 minutes into the hut and I hauled up a beautiful perch! For about the next hour or so it was pretty steady, not a lot of really big ones but most were in the 10+" range. It slowed down for a bit but at about 1:00 pm both rods went off; two double headers at the same time and all 4 fish were beauties. From then until about 4:00 when they picked me up I never did get my second line back in the water, almost as fast as I could re bait and get my line back down I'd get another hit. I ended up keeping 15 and I lost count early in the game but I'll bet I could have filled a 5 gal. pail if I'd kept them all. Thanks to Kim & Tim for a wonderful day, the huts were clean and comfortable, the fishing was terrific and I'll be back a few more times before this winter is over!
  18. Absolutly! When I bought my boat I listened to Roy, went out with Marc Thorpe, both big fans of the PrinceCraft. Roy had a tiller, Marc had a consol. I decided on the 164S with a 60 Merc on it because I wanted comfort and stability and reliability. I haven't been the least bit disapointed in my choice! This package suited MY needs but it isn't the right package for everyone!
  19. Too bad it has to be a tiller, I'm going to be selling my boat this spring but it's not a tiller.
  20. It can't be said often enough, so many people would have survived if they had pinned it instead of (as Ernie said) "grabbed a handful of brake". The second thing I taught my son when he got his first sled at 8 years old was "open water = open throttle"! The first thing I taught him was "if you don't know, don't go".
  21. Got to say that having one is one of the smartest ideas I have heard in a long time!
  22. Leaves me feeling sick to my stomach! To know that someone could die out there and I can't do anything to help them is something that doesn't sit well with me! All I can do is say a prayer.
  23. And as I look out the window this afternoon there is someone on a sled pulling another sled (or a trailer couldn't tell which) right down the middle of the lake (about 3/4 of a mile from here) and another person walking along about 100 yards or so behind them. I just walked away from the window, if they get into trouble there would be nothing I could do about it.
  24. One thing I have noticed is that years when the ice has been really thick we get a lot of dead pan fish washing up on shore in the spring. I think it might be because they get trapped in shallow areas as the ice forms. Years where we haven't had much ice there seems to be very few dead ones. I read a report several years ago about a small lake where they banned ice fishing and the next year there was a huge die off. Long story short, turned out that all the holes the ice fishermen drilled were allowing the lake to breath.
