  1. Should have read the newest post LOL, I just sent you the same link via PM😀
  2. Just be safe!
  3. Anytime you choose family over a job you've made the right choice IMHO, good for you!
  4. I was down to Port Perry yesterday and Scugog looked to be frozen over (I AM NOT SAYING IT'S SAFE) but I didn't see any open water anywhere.
  5. Ya, I've never been out of work really but after I retired I decided to go back to work because I wanted something to do. I started working for a small company that was struggling and created a new division for them which started to really take off. It was doing so well it got to the point that we needed more staff so, based on a friends recommendation I hired a young man, with a young family that needed an opportunity. Well, long story short; he was a very charismatic young man but he wasn't as advertised and wasn't doing a very good job. Then I caught him stealing from the company. It was right around Christmas so instead of firing him on the spot I allowed him to pay the money back and gave him another chance. I went away on holiday for three weeks, when I came back I found out he had convinced the owner of the company it was all just a big misunderstanding, I just had it in for him, and that he could do the job I was doing for less money. The owner fell for it and I was out of a job. Within 6 months everything I had built was gone, the division was closed down and everyone lost out. The sad part is that there were no winners. I feel really badly for the GM workers and the people that work for all the supporting industries, the GM workers do have a lot of resources available to help them transition, sadly many of the people outside of GM that are affected don't have the same supports in place to help them. I recently heard that even a new hire at GM even in a basic position was costing the company something like $75.00/hour with wages, benefits, and pensions. If that is accurate I guess it just makes sense that the company had to make some changes to remain competitive.
  6. Ok, so the count down is now into days (well ok so it's still double digit but....) I am going to be in Myrtle Beach at Apache Pier camp ground from roughly Jan. 1 to March 25, 2020 (the good lord willing) I spent a few weeks there last winter and had a real hoot pier fishing (we caught almost everything that swims in those waters) and made many new friends but our real target was whitings (once you've tried them you'll want more, lots more......) So, if any of you are thinking of heading South this winter either to Myrtle Beach or passing through the area give me a shout, the place I am renting is three bedroom and if we don't already have a full house we'll try to fit you in. If we already have a full house at that point we'll try to work something out with a neighbor, worst case scenario, a one week rental (all in) is like $650.00 including your security deposit ($100.00) which you get back if you leave the place clean (a month is only $850.00). If you are flying in, again, just let me know, we could pick you up at the airport...... work with you to use our car if needed..... and I'd be happy to share what I've learned so far about pier fishing in Myrtle Beach (I even have spare rods and tackle if you need it but you can buy a rod and reel at Bass Pro for about $30.00). Anyway, the offer is out there and I'd like nothing better than to share my good fortune (and limited knowledge) with other members of this board if I can.
  7. Yesterday my daughter e-mailed me again, asking why I didn't do something useful with my time. "Like sitting on the couch, watching TV and drinking wine is not a good thing?" I asked. Talking about my "doing-something-useful" seems to be her favorite topic of conversation. She was "only thinking of me", she said and suggested that I go down to the Senior Center and hang out with the guys. I did this and when I got home last night, I decided to play a prank on her. I e-mailed her and told her that I had joined a Parachute Club. She replied, "Are you nuts? You are 73 years old and now you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?" I told her that I even got a Membership Card and e-mailed a copy to her. She immediately telephoned me and yelled, "Good grief, dad, where are your glasses?" This is a membership in a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club!" "Oh man, I'm in trouble again," I said, "I really don't know what to do. I signed up for five jumps a week!" The line went quiet and her friend picked up the phone and said that my daughter had fainted. Life as a Senior Citizen is not getting any easier, but sometimes it can be fun.
  8. Boy it sure was packed in there today in spite of the weather. I thought it was a pretty good show, saw some new things, won a $10.00 Cabella's gift card and a really nice shirt, got a really good deal on a GPS for my son-in law for Christmas and checked out a couple of outfitters. All in all A nice way to spend a few hours.
  9. I am going over to the ice fishing show tomorrow (Sunday the 15th), leaving Lindsay about 7:30am I have room for up to 3 passangers so if anyone from Lindsay (or points between here and Barrie) wants a ride, let me know.
  10. Tea stained lake, lots of weeds: 3/8 oz pink jig head, white twister tail = A boat full of walleye and pike
  11. It's not about roughing it if that's what you have booked and paid for, it's about not getting what you've paid for period! That's one of the reasons I suggest checking the Google reviews rather than relying on the supplier's web site reviews (they don't post the bad ones). Even when checking the google reviews look at the reviewers stats; how many reviews have they done? (if it's only one or two could it be someone paid to post a positive review?). Check to see if the person that did the review has ever posted positive or negative reviews on other places. If possible contact the person that did the review and get as much information as you can. Some of these trips are "once in a lifetime" for some people and it would be ashamed to hand out several thousand dollars only to find out that you have been lied to but your money is gone and the trip is over.
  12. A good home has been found 😊. A lady that spends her summers fishing with her grand kids was more than happy to have my leftovers and I even managed to throw in a few little extras for the kids. Guess it's true, "one man's junk is another man's treasure"!
  13. My son and I looked at the propane ones last year and after doing a lot of reading, research, and thinking it through we decided on the little Honda 2.3 air cooled. I have to say we are both really happy we went that route. there were a few reports of them being noisy but we didn't find them bad at all and the advantages were well worth any additional noise. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate the little Honda a solid 10.
  14. Do read Google reviews not the ones on the outfitters websites.
  15. Wow, that's going to be some really nice bacon if it tastes anything as good as it looks!
  16. It's just plain nuts, everything is always someone else's fault these days, how about being responsible for watching where you are going. If you are out there walking around on the ice you have to accept the fact that there are hazards involved.
  17. Package is unopened, instructions included. $35.00
  18. I have no idea what's in there but there are a few pretty old ones.
  19. More free stuff, Aquatabs water purification tablets un opened EXP. 09, 2021 Patch kit for hip waders Replacement rod tip.
  20. Sadly the trip didn't happen, unfortunately my friends dad took a turn for the worse just before we were going to leave and we didn't have time to re-schedule. I will be leaving right after Christmas for three months in Myrtle Beach so I'll get plenty of fishing in then, can't wait for another feed of those fresh caught whitings.😊
  21. Things are changing, I've been buying on line for years and never had an issue. However it seems you have to be really careful these days buying on line. I just had an incident where I made a purchase through Facebook, my bill showed on line at $4.83 including taxes and freight so I hit "process payment". Then I got an email telling me my payment of $81.00 had been approved, I immediately sent an email telling them to cancel my order, they replied that the order had already been shipped. I called my credit card company and started a dispute. When I checked my credit card statement two days later I had been billed $87.90. The credit card company has told me not to pay it and they are disputing the charge. That will be the last time I buy anything through Facebook.
  22. I'll bring the rod and reel with me when I come down on Saturday. I'll hold on to the tackle until I find a new home for it.
  23. For you my friend I sure would, Can I take you and MA out for dinner one evening this week?
  24. Been cleaning up my hobby area and I have a bunch of old fishing tackle, most of it needs cleaning up/painting/new hooks stuff like that (a couple of items might even be antiques) but instead of just throwing it away I thought I would offer it for free to anyone interested in it. I might even dig out a few more items between now and someone claiming it. That's a large size freezer bag BTW not a sandwich bag
  25. Do/say 100 things right, no one remembers; do/say 1 thing wrong, no one forgets 🤔
