Doug I can't thank you enough for all this information, I really, really appreciate it and all the other replies and suggestions! I am starting to think you are right, an Argo just isn't going to compensate for old age lol, the rough ride and potential to get REALLY stuck (the young at heart in me would have to find out what it won't go through at least a few times). I guess I might have to start doing a little less exploring and accept this old nonsense. I might just take a drive down to visit you this spring just to buy you a coffee and say hi, I love to hook up even for an hour. Tight lines and stay safe. π

Thank you for all the information, I finally convinced him to buy a load tester and we quickly determined that he had one really bad battery and 5 that were borderline. $750.00 later and the golf cart runs like new. I really appreciate the replies!

Prayers sent, 30 is way too young. Please keep us posted!

Well I did talk to a dealer in Sturgen Falls, they can't rent me one because of insurance (test drive in their parking lot only) however they did tell me I can rent one through Sturgeon Rental so I will be doing that this spring.

Thanks, couldn't find the answer in that link but I am a little leery too so that's why I decided to ask on here hoping someone could give me a definitive answer.

Ok, well there are lots of potential choices depending on where you do cross and which direction you want to head. Thunder Bay and North are great areas but almost anywhere you cross into Canada is going to put you into some decent fishing. I guess at this point the easiest thing would be for you to decide on what you want to see with the family and then we can tie the fishing in to that.
-
Ok, next question; From International Falls have you decided which direction you are thinking of heading and do you have a distance you want to keep within? I am guessing that with a family in tow you would be looking for places with a beach and stuff.

Friend has an electric golf cart, 36V system (6-6V batteries) One of the batteries is toast. He has an 8V battery same physical dimensions, any issues with replacing the dead 6V battery with the 8V?

Well first of all, welcome to the board! A few questions; are you bringing your own boat , any particular species, the more information you can give us the better suggestions you will get.
-
Do I ever wish I had the budget for that thing π
-
Well I should have known better, of course it worked better than the way I had been doing it and I ended up with some beautiful bottles of canned clam juice to bring home too! Thanks Shane!

Will try that this afternoon π Thanks!

Thanks guys, this is all helping! The biggest problem for me is that at 74 I am finding it hard to do things like wrestling even the little 30 lb Honda onto the back of a little tinny back in the bush. Loading and unloading all the gear into and out of the boat and stuff like that. I don't have the agility and balance I had even a few years ago lol. 10 or 15 years ago roof racks or trailers would have been no problem, heck two years ago I could even manage to lug the 15 hp and put it on the boat but I am afraid those days are just memories. Getting old isn't for sissys lol I would love to test drive one for a weekend under the same conditions that I would be using it anyone got one they would rent me for a weekend?
-
Got to try that, does cooking them that long not make them tough?
-
Thanks Shane, I was kind of wondering about that, my back is bad already, getting pounded around for an hour or so wouldn't be much fun! My ATV has independent suspension and adjustable shocks so it's a pretty smooth ride. Mind you sitting on the seat in some of those little boats we use for a couple of hours is pretty hard on the back anyway π

Well, the weather cooled off and so did the fishing -3 here this morning but the sun is shining and it will get back up to about 12 by about noon. The fishing has been really slow for about a week now and between the cold and the rain I really haven't been putting much effort into it. I have been spending time going for clams and oysters which don't care if it's cold or not. It's a learning process LOL. Understanding the tides and how the wind can affect them for starters. Yesterday the tide was supposed to be quite low but the wind was really blowing out of the NE, the water level in the flats where I have been going stayed at least a foot higher than it should have for the tide level that was predicted. Higher water levels reduce the areas where you can dig so it makes it a lot harder to get them. I didn't find out until just the other day that if you find one, dig deeper in the same spot, if you find one there are usually more, up until now if I found one I figured that was it and moved on looking for more, yesterday I took six out of a hole about 1' square. It's not unusual to find them buried up to 11" deep in the mud although most of the ones I have been finding are under 3-4 inches deep. The clusters seem to all be about the same size clams, it's unusual to find large ones and small ones in the same spot. Most of the ones I try to find are between 1 1/8 to 1 1/2" thick through the hinge anything bigger than that I have been using for chowder which isn't but t a bad thing. Steamed in a little butter, garlic, parsley, and white wine is still my favorite.

Our primary use would be two guys accessing small back woods lakes to go fishing and fishing from it. We could encounter all sorts of stuff; muskeg, weeds, ice on the lake deep snow, just about anything you can imagine and stuff I wouldn't even try to take my ATV through. My son has been wanting one for years now but I've had some concerns: Can you drive it where you would normally drive an ATV, i.e down the shoulder of the road (where ATVs are permitted). Just how good/or bad would it be to fish from once you reach the lake. I realize that it would be a lot slower going down the road than my ATV would be but how is the ride? If you owned one, did you get as much use out of it as you thought you would before you bought it? If any of you have owned/used one I would really appreciate any and all feed back, 6 wheel, 8 wheel, tracks or not..... I have been reading everything I can find on them, some reviews are great, some not so (I wonder if some of the really good ones are biased). One thing I do know is that any reviews I get from you guys are going to be honest! It seems that there were a lot of improvements made in the 2019 models, they all sound to be really progressive, improvements to the steering, instrument panel. Any questions I should be asking? This would be a big investment for me so any help would be much appreciated!

You just made my day, that's exactly the report I was hoping to hear! π€
-
Funny how we often bypass the tried and true to try and find something better. Glad you caught one π€
-
I for one am anxiously awaiting a report for the maiden trip. π
-
That would have been wonderful, perhaps we can plan on doing it next year, we'd have one heck of a good timeπ

Thanks my friend, I am loving it down here, the high today is supposed to be 23, the record high set back in 1949 was only 23 so we might even break that. We seem to get a few cool days then it bounces back up again but so far no snow LOL. Even though the temperatures tend to be up in the teens most days it can still feel cool if the wind is off the water, the ocean temp is only 53 F as of yesterday. The clams don't HAVE to be steamed first, lots of people do eat them raw, I just find it very hard to pry them open, my hands just aren't as strong as they were once upon a time.π I did read that putting them in the freezer for a bit first makes them easier to shuck but I haven't tried that yet, soon though! Perhaps being on ice made them easier for you kids to shuck them. We are really enjoying the steamed ones anyway, a bit of butter, a little garlic, 1/4 cup of white wine..... served over a bed of fresh pasta with crusty bread..... are you drooling yet π. Oh, and the clam juice you end up with, OMG I am going to try to find some Mason jars down here and can some of it to bring home, it will make a beautiful base for chowders and such. They do sell them in the local grocery store and fish markets, typically about $5.00 to $8.00 a dozen, I didn't count those but I am guessing I had about 4 dozen. You are limited to 1/2 a bushel twice a week, I haven't come close to that yet but I do expect next trip out I shouldn't have any problem. I've measured the ID of my pail and carefully marked the pail so I won't exceed the limit (and yes I calculated it based on a US 1/2 bushel π) This old man isn't taking any chances! You are just about right on the money, the last 2 lbs of shrimp we bought we had 26 shrimp so about 13/lb average, I won't even buy the frozen ones at home ever again, they are not even close in flavour. Anyway, the rain has stopped and the wind is dropping, time to get dressed and head out fishing. Tight lines and stay safe
-
If you buy 10 lbs it drops to $5.00 π
-
We are buying them, $6.00 A pound right off the boat. I would love to be able to catch them but I think I would need a boat for starters. We often see the shrimp trawlers within about a mile or so off the pier so they are in the area.
