  1. You were there when a friend needed you most! You saved another man's life, and you prevented a person you didn't even know from being beaten by some jerk. Any one of those things would make it a trying day for me. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend but happy to hear that he had someone like you by his side when it was his time to leave. His body may be gone but his spirit will be with you for the rest of your life. Congratulations on saving one if not two more lives that very same day. I am really looking forward to meeting you some day soon. I'd like to buy you a beer!
  2. Well Art, I can't say for sure yet but if all goes well I just might be able to at least come and spend a day with the gang. I'm working on it! Well, she sure likes that I don't come home covered in dirt and smelling like stale gas LOL She seems happier that I now wear my wedding ring again but no matter what she always supports me in anything I do! Pick a weekend, any weekend LOL. Thanks for the well wishes everyone this family ROCKS!
  3. As many of you know my career has taken a number of changes in direction. most of my life has been spent in sales and marketing but a few years ago I found myself out of a job unexpectantly. I didn't sit around, went out and found a job as a small engine mechanic, went to school, and this spring wrote and passed my exam. Work for a small engine mechanic this winter has been slow, the lack of snow ment there wasn't many snow blowers breaking down and sledders didn't get to put many miles on there sleds. Back in Dec. a local company (I had met the President of the company while doing some small engine repairs for him and we just seemed to hit it off). When he found out that I was laid off for a few months, he asked me to drop in and see him. He asked me if I would be interested in doing some marketing research for them and I decided to do it; Re my post on point of use water coolers which so many of you responded to and helped me with. Last week I got called into the President's office, he was very impressed with the work I had done for them and asked if I would be interested in joining the company selling and marketing their new line of water coolers and office coffee and food services systems and supplies. The offer was a very generous one, salary, expenses, and bonuses. Now I had to give this a lot of thought, I really love being a mechanic and I have built a very good reputation locally for doing quality work at a fair price. I take a lot of pride in my work, and love to treat people the way I would like to be treated. The down side for me was that I ended up working 7 days a week trying to please everyone and didn't get much time to enjoy fishing and hunting. It was mostly my own fault, I hated to say no to anyone. The new job is Monday to Friday, the products are quality, the prices are excellent, and the people I will be working with are wonderful! So here I go again LOL. Anyway, the whole point of of my post is to give those who are looking for work the benifit of my experience; look outside of the box, network, network, network, and explore every opportunity. I can't say that this will work out for me, but it is an awsome opportunity that I intend to explore and give it my best shot! I fully intend to continue to do the small engine repairs for frends, family, and OFNr's but for now it will be my hobby and passion rather than my job and it will be when I can and want to.
  4. I have a cell phone down there too, if you happen to find it when you go for the GPS, give me a call
  5. Tried a bow but found that a crossbow was better for me. I haven't used my gun for deer since. I like Carp love sitting in my stand and becoming part of nature.
  6. A very sad day indeed! I sure hope he makes it, I understand he has 3 young boys. A prayer for the whole family!
  7. Just flip them over inside to out but, the flat side of the blade should be toward the ice. Judging from the amount of rust on them you should probably get a new set anyway, they are only $20.00 for the set.
  8. I firmly agree that the sentence should be appealed but I strongly disagree that it should have anything to do with the race of the victim. As Randy so aptly put it "there is one race, the human race"!
  9. If it is in fact a fuel issue, that will not be covered under warranty, normal shop rates start at $65.00 or more per hour and most will charge you a minimum of 1/2 an hour to do an estimate. I would still try to pull that carb bowl off and see if there is water or dirt in there before you take it into a shop. BTW, if it is a warranty repair, I can still do that too.
  10. Glad to hear that you are finally moved in and you can start to enjoy all the wild life and quiet of the country. Enjoy!
  11. I haven't fished Bisco in quite a few years so I don't know that I can be much help other than to tell you that the fishing was very good when we were there. We just camped out on the shore so I can't even help with the lodge but I am sure some others on here will be able to help. Have fun!
  12. Don't know how I missed this thread but a belated happy birthday Joe. Birthdays are good, the more you have, the longer you live!
  13. Well, all I can say is "pay me now, or pay me later!" Use what ever you want, I'll trust the engineers! (and fix your engine later).
  14. Way to complex an issue, and it really depends what an engine is desigined to use. There are many factors that come into play in deciding what octaine fuel should be used in an engine and EPA regulations play a very big factor in it. If the manufacturer dictates a specific fuel then use that fuel. Cross scavenging engines will require one grade, stratified engines could specify another grade, believe me, there is a reason! Using the wrong grade could cause an engine to run too hot or too cold, affect emmissions, (among other things) and in the long term damage the engine. It isn't nearly as simple as: compression, ignition, fuel. Even if they are the critical components. Believe me a lot of money has been spent determining what fuel should be used for a specific engine design and if the engineers have dictated that this engine should be used with this grade of fuel, there is a reason!
  15. Un do the float bowl, put something under it to catch any gas that comes out and take a look at that, if there is dirt or water in it then you have found your problem. Drain the tank and line. If it is dirt then there could be dirt plugging your jet, a spray of carb cleaner and then compressed air should be enough to clear that. If the fuel looks good, remove the spark plug, attach the high tension lead to it and ground it (touch the exterior metal part of the plug where the threads are to the cylinder) turn the engine over, if you have spark at the plug, then you know your ignition is good. Or just make a side trip up here to Lindsay and I'll fix it for you probably while you wait. OFC special, you just pay for the parts.
  16. Good on you DARCY LOL Thanks for the opportunity Art.
  17. Glad to share it Joe, you won't find it in any cook books, it took me a couple of years to perfect it. I'd have shared my French Onion soup recipe too but I use dehydrated puffball mushrooms in it and I don't think you can find them in any store, I always dehydrate one or two every fall when I get them. You'll just have to make a side trip when you come up this summer, I'll give you some to take home with you and the recipe!
  18. LOL, sorry for that I can't say for sure because I wasn't there but apparently it is a true story!
  19. Thanks for clarifying that for me Roy. I would have posted pictures but the darn stuff goes so fast that all I could have posted would have been empty bowls
  20. Trust me, they are not that skittish in the country, we often see them in broad daylight, I had several wild rabbits living around here last winter, by spring there were none to be found but there were lots of coyote tracks around. If you are involved in a study, what sort of information do you need to help you? Reminds me of a story: Coyotes were descimating sheep in one area, there was a big meeting with a lot of ideas and suggestions and one tree hugging woman suggested castrating the males. One elderly sheep farmer stood up and addressed the woman. He said "Lady, the coyotes aren't banging my sheep, they are eating them"!
  21. Cliff's Cream of roasted garlic seafood chouder. Ingredients: 5 garlic Bulbs 4 Tbsp Olive Oil (a little more won't hurt) 2 1/2 cups chicken broth 1 cup white wine (and a glass for you while you are cooking) 2 1/2 cups of milk 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup peeled and cubed potatoes 1 1/2 cups salad shrimp (but you can use clams, scallops or almost any fish cut into small pieces or any combination of above) (you can leave the fish out if you just want to serve this as a soup) salt and pepper to taste Cut about 1/4" off the top of the garlic bulbs and place them cut side up in a shallow roasting pan, drizzle olive oil over the cut area and bake in a pre heated 350° oven for 1 hour. Cool slightly then press individual garlic cloves between thumb and finger squeezing the garlic out. In a sauce pan, combine garlic, chicken stock, and white wine, simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Stir in the milk, cream, and potatoes and simmer for an additional 30 minutes. Puree the soup/chowder in a blender then return to the sauce pan. Now I usually take the bits of raw garlic that came out of the top of the bulbs and add it to the mixture at this point then add the shrimp or whatever else I am using. Add your salt and pepper, reheat and serve with a garnish of grated cheese or parsley. I may not win the prize but I will promise you one thing, if you do make this, your whole house smell warm and sweet, and your guests will love it. Oh, and if I could, I would serve it with some of Bruce's fantastic home made bread on the side. (now you know why I'm BIG CLIFF LOL.)
  22. The HDS 5 is perfect for my boat, and gives me everything I need. It is easy to switch between full and split screens so I get to see everything I need. You have so many choices and the graphics quality is fantastic.
  23. I totally agree with that judge. It is a privilage and your duty! I have been called twice but never selected but would go again in a heartbeat. How often have I listened to people (female dog) about our courts and how they would handle things. You have a chance to make a difference and you want to opt out? Go and do your duty with pride! Big brother, edit that one!
  24. Go for the 9.9, those older motors keep their value because they are almost bullet proof.
  25. Where do you live? I know several breeders and they are often looking for someone to help shooting for them. Or if you are looking for a dog of your own I might be able to help you there too.
