Lots of choices in the Kawarthas! Let me know if you need some help.

OK, as always there are two sides to every story. My property is assessed at $1200.00 for every linear foot of shore line that I own and I have to pay taxes on that. I do believe that I should have the right to enjoy my waterfront without interfearance from people who don't live here or pay the taxes on my property or shore line. Now, that being said anyone in a boat does have the right to fish in front of my place and I never object to that when it happens, in fact I will often go down and say hi to them but if my family want to fish off the dock or swim I would expect the people in the boat to move off and allow me to use that area as a common courticy. I can't move my shore line! I have also seen some land owners getting very frustrated lately. they like to go down to their dock with their kids and catch a few fish. One very small bay in particular has been getting pounded lately by boat loads of people who move in like a swarm of black flies (last saturday five boats with 3-5 people on each boat)and they don't leave until there are no fish left in the bay. Do they deserve respect? Not if they don't respect that the land owner should be able to enjoy the water too. If you were out in the middle of the lake anchored and catching fish and all of a sudden 5 boat loads of people moved in on you to the point where you couldn't continue fishing would you be upset? I expect you would! Same differance except you could move, the land owners can't! (or at least shouldn't have to). That being said, no one has the right to be an A hole and make a little kid cry! If he had asked you nicely, would you have moved off?

A friend called me yesterday evening asked me to go over and have a look at his lawn tractor. I was going to go out to my blind so I figured I'd stop at his place on my way. When I pulled into his yard I saw what I thought was a turkey about 250 yards behind his house in his field. Pulled out the glasses and sure enough, a nice tom. Alex came out and I commented that there was a nice tom down back. Alex insisted I take his truck and drive down there. I wasn't going to bother figuring it would just run off but Alex was very insistant so to shut him up I drove down to where I had seen the bird, parked the truck, got out and loaded my gun, and sat on the tail gate. I let go with my gobbler call and within seconds he answered me from just inside the cedars about 30' away. I called again and he came running out of the bush with me sitting right there in the open. He stopped, for a second and looked at me like "what the heck are you". I didn't like the look he gave me so I shot him! I sure don't see what the big deal is with turkey hunting, drive out into a field, sit in plain sight, total elapsed time about 10 minutes. I use to go sit in my blind at 5 am all dressed in camo, haul my decoys out, call and watch careful to not make any movement that might tip them off that I was in the area. All I'd ever see was hens. To heck with it, from now on I'm going to drive out to the field in broad day light, honk the horn and wait for some dumb tom to challange me!

So sorry to hear this news, they hold such a special place in our hearts and when we loose one of them I think a little piece of our heart goes with them. Our guy is getting near the end too and I dread the day but it will come. Remember the good times!

Bruce, do you happen to have the name of the DFO employee that deemed there was no damage to the creek bed? I think a letter to their boss demanding that they be retrained would be in order. What do they think all that silt will have done?

They didn't know how many fish these guys had but they knew it was well over 60. These guys were anchored 20' off the dock in clear sight of several homes none of which was more than 100' away. I have a spotting scope that I use here quite often, I can see a fishing rod quite clearly from a mile away it would be no problem to watch someone fishing and see if they were releasing or keeping them.

My wife can! Just after we got married I got into bed one night and noticed a big pair of scissors tied to the headboard of our bed. When I asked what that was all about, she quietly replied "That's just in case I ever find out you have been cheating on me"! I couldn't sleep for three nights and I hadn't even done anything wrong. Those Scisors are still attached to our headboard and yes, I still have all my parts LOL.

Was talking with a local fellow this morning, they observed two anglers fishing in front of their place catching and keeping well in excess of their limit. They phoned the OPP who responded promptly and nailed these two anglers with in excess of 450 fish, some OOS. to the locals to the OPP for responding promptly and doing something about it. Come fishing on Sturgeon Lake, and a good time will be had by all. Come poaching and your ass is grass, we've had enough!

just because you live on the reserve, doesn't mean you are native indian. -

Applicants must be physically fit, (there may be some heavy lifting involved from time to time (nothing I can't handle and I'm 64) have a drivers license and a clean abstract and be eager to learn and accept responsibality. You must be a team player, have a good sense of humor, enjoy working with people, and be able to think on your own and take initiave. Starting pay is $11.00/hr with a review and potential raise after 3 months and full benfit package which kicks in after the first 3 months. If you are interested in a career with unlimited potential in the Lindsay area please email me [email protected] PDF format prefered but I can work with Most formats. This is not a summer job so please no students (I may have one available later but will post that seperatly). Enforcement of the Kawartha's new regulations

Thank you so much for posting that. I'm sure there were a lot that didn't get caught but it shows that there is a chance that you will. -
I have an HDS5 and while I love it, I am still trying to fine tune it and I'm not sure I am getting the best out of it yet. Because I fish very shallow water most of the time I find I am having trouble picking up fish. If I crank the sensivity up then I end up with a lot of noise on the screen. If I adjust out the noise, I end up not seeing fish.
-
That is exactly the kind of post that does absoutly nothing but create trouble and stir the pot to no end! I would like to invite you to come and spend a day on the water with me. We'll do the rounds and I will guarantee you, no, I'll bet you a free weekend stay at my place that by the end of the day you will see just as many non Asians poaching as you will see any particular race. You loose, you apologize publically on this board!

Sorry but I guess I am the exception here. I have been with State Farm for over 30 years. My van got broken into, no problem. I lost a very expensive bracelet while fishing, no problem. I clipped another car in a blizzard, had $17,000.00 in damages done to my house in a rain storm, $6000.00 damages done to my car when a guy ran a red light, $4000.00 damages done to my garage during a wind storm when a tree came down on it, and $3500.00 in damages when ice built up on my roof and water got in under the shingles. Not once have they ever given me a hard time. Not once have my premiums gone up significantly, not once have they mentioned not renewing my policy. I have my house, coverage on my boat house, two cars, boat, ATV, a rider on my liability, increasing it to $2,000,000.00 and extended coverage on jewlery and loss of use on my cars; everything is insured at full replacement cost. I pay about $250.00 a month.

Please guys and gals, this has nothing to do with race, religion, colour, or gender so please do not take this thread in that direction. Anyone who knows me knows that I judge every person by their own actions. I have a daughter-in-law that is native indian, she abhores the abuse she sees from other native indians. I have many friends from many different races, religions, and skin tones. They stay at my house and are treated with the love and respect they each deserve so if you think that my post is ment to point out any particular group of people then please think again! Poachers are poachers, I won't stop poaching here but I will try to make a difference. It sure beats sitting here whining about it! The one thing that has amazed me is the lack of people who have offered to try to be a part of this. But with or without help I will try! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!
-
Really happy for you! Good luck in your new venture.
-
Man you sure don't know me very well do you? If you did, you wouldn't even suggest that my motives might have anything to do with race. As far as being a vigilanty? If I see you stealing stuff from my back yard or my neighbours place would you expect me to not call the cops? These poachers are stealing plain and simple and I am tired of it. I have no intention of trying to enforce the laws, simply observe, doccument, and report so if you are poaching in my neck of the woods and I see you, expect to get reported.
-
Well, I am starting my own program right here. So if you live in the Lindsay area, are willing to give up a couple of hours of your time once a week and would like to do something other that just talk about it. PM me. There will be no confrontation, we will simply observe, doccument, and report. We won't stop poaching in this area but we can sure make it more difficult to get away with. Even if we only take one poacher out of the loop it will be worth it.
-
Well, maybe it is time we start to DEMAND results!
-
Can you say "taking them back to Toronto and selling them". Can you say "I have no respect for your laws or your resourses"? Can you say it is only about 1 in a 100 that get caught and to be honest most of the time they get off with a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again. But just let me get caught with one fish outside of the slot or over my limit and they would throw the book at me as an example to others.
-
I didn't see this first hand but I am very confident that my source is reliable. It seems there were two rental boats fishing for crappie. A person who lives nearby watched them for a period of time and observed them keeping over 150 fish so he decided to call in a report. For a change someone responded and the 4 fisher persons were caught with 400 crappie and some out of season bass. I really hope they throw the book at these people, perhaps it will send a message. I know I for one am getting tired of this and carry my cell phone with me all the time when I am out on the water now. Anyone in the Kawarthas interested in becoming part of a fisheries watch program? It is time we gave the MNR a little help.

I forgot my camera but some of the other guys took a couple of pictures. I am guessing at the 15-17 lbs. we didn't weigh any of them but there were some good sizes and they all put up a good fight!

Well, yesterday was the day we had been waiting for, John, Jose, Steve and myself had booked a day with Fishmaster to see if we could tie into some of those big girls. My day started early. 1:45 am I'm awake and too excited to go back to sleep. I don't like to keep anyone waiting and I had planned to pick Steve up at 5:00, it's just over an hour drive to his place and I don't ever like to be late so 3:15 and I have tripple checked everything and I headed out. 4:30 am and I am at Steve's door, worked out well, we had time to make a coffee for the road, get packed up and we were on the road by 4:50. 6:00 am we pull into John's drive way, say our hellows and head off for breakfast then down to Fishmasters for 8:00. The weatherman had been calling for rain, a chance of thunder showers and winds to 35k for the day so we were a bit aprenhensive about how the day might go but the sky was fairly clear and the winds were not too bad at all. Well, it didn't take very long and it was "fish on". It sure was a good start to the day, two more followed in fairly quick succession then a lul. We kept getting hits but the bite was lite and they were being fussy. it took a while but then fish four was finally landed. Fishmaster tried a variety of baits and a few different spots, hits were frequent, then three more fish in fairly quick sucession, a lot more bites and finally fish eight got landed. The winds had picked up a bit making it hard to hold the boat still but the rain held off until we finally pulled anchor and headed back to the marina. All in all a wonderful day with fantastic friends, 8 cats with the biggest probably being 15-17 lbs and some more memories. Good food, friends, and fishing, what better way is there to spend a Friday.

I can't remember for sure but it has to be 10+ years. Long enough to make some wonderful long time friends.

Was out on Sturgeon on Sunday, found a few but they were in very small pockets and well spread out. A friend was out last night and only got two. in two hours. I hear they are doing well on Scugog though.
