There are no floats in those carbs, they use a metering diaphragm same as a chainsaw. Doesn't matter what position you transport it in. As far as the brg. is concerned; As long as it is supported close to the motor as shown in those photos, it won't be a problem.

With the change to the regulations here in the Kawarthas my fishing habbits are changing too (not to mention getting older LOL) I currently have a Vexilar FL8, an Aqua-Vu Scout SRT, and a Hummingbird portable fish finder. I have decided to reduce my collection to one unit but I am really having toroble deciding which way to go. Most of my winter fishing will be done right here now, average water depths 6-15', water clarity is excellent in the winter time (just tried the Aqua-Vu out and I could easily see bottom in 10' of water.) I have rigged it so that the camera points straight down so it is like looking at a fish finder or flasher but I can really see what is happening, even which direction the fish are coming and going, even watch them actually bite. The FL8 is more versitile though, it doesn't matter what the water clarity is like (although not important in this case) but it has caught fish for me that I wouldn't have caught without it. Limiting factor, not so good in really shallow water like the 5-6' range (unless you want to put a surpressor cable on it). It is also a lot lighter than the Aqua-Vu but hopfully most of my trips will be on my ATV. The Hummingbird has always been an awsome unit, very sensitive, it will show a 1/4 oz jig in 50' of water and it is the lightest and most portable of the three)except now you are into inturpriting a sonar display. Not that hard to do but I really am not going to pack 3 units with me and it doesn't make any sense to keep them all sitting on the shelf. I guess I am leaning toward keeping the Aqua-Vu but thought "many heads are better than one" why not get some feed back. Which one would you keep and why?

I do the same thing and it has never given me any problems. i have also plugged it into the 12V outlet on my ATV and also the car when I have taken it on to the ice. When I do come in from fishing, I let the battery warm up to room temp. then charge it and disconnect the leads. My battery is 4 years old and still works fine.

I wish you had posted this sooner, I just sold my wood lathe, 2 sets of chisls, plunge router and biscuit jointer all for $250.00, The router and biscuit jointer didn't have an hour on them combined, the lathe was a Rockwell Beaver 36" bed one set of the chisles was still in the box, the other set hardly used. I couldn't find anyone that wanted them.

I know this isn't very Christian of me but BETTER YOU THAN ME! Light fluries here again today and winds gusting up to 40 k earlier. I would have liked to get out and try some more fishing but not in these conditions. Hope those that are affected by the storms are safe and sound!

snowmobiler found in redstone lake
Big Cliff replied to lunkerbasshunter's topic in General Discussion
Well, at least it will make the body easier to find. There is no substute for a good survival suit if you do happen to have an accident. I read somewhere that a regular snowmobile suit could give you up to about 18 minutes, a proper survival suit upwards of 45 minutes. Sure makes the probability of getting our alive a whole lot better! -
Oh Roy, I can't teach an old fart like you anything!

That is easy! Tomorrow morning at about 4:00 am, wake her up and ask "sweetheart, should I stay here in bed and snuggle or should I get up and head into the store and buy one of those nice new gas ice augers that are on special?" If she is anything like Sue, she will tell you to remember your wallet!. You young guys have so much to learn about what makes a happy marrige HAPPY!

First ice fishing trip on Sturgeon Lake
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
OK fishing 101 is where you need to start LOL! -
Sonar is sonar, signal sent out, echo returned. No reason why it would not work! It might need a little getting use to to understand what you are seeing.

First ice fishing trip on Sturgeon Lake
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
You mean a 6" sucker minnow isn't the best bait to use for crappie? LOL, we tried pin head minnows, some micro jigs, and maggots. The two hits that Jim did have were on the minnows, 6 lb test line and muskie don't seem to be a good combination. -
First ice fishing trip on Sturgeon Lake
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
One of the problems with this lake is that there is a lot of area to cover and no ice fishing history to work with so patterns haven't been established yet. Scugog has a long history and as with any body of water there will be places that produce (or not) at different times of the year but by now, those places are established on Scugog and Simco. It will take many years for that to happen in the rest of the Kawarthas. As far as posting if I am catching or not.... I wouldn't be afraid to share (brag), I might not give out the location of my honey hole openly on the internet but this is a fishing website and so many of the people on here have given me information and help when I needed it. The list is way too long and if I was to live to be 100 I could never give back what I have received from others here. You are a prime example of that; you have done so many things for me, given me tackle, shown me spots, shared your bait with me, gave me a fantastic deal on the flasher.... again the list is long. I can only try to repay some of that kindness. I think it is called "paying it forward" but I am way behind right now.! A few years ago I did actually post some GPS locations of some of my favorite spots, perhaps no one believed me and thought it was some kind of a joke or something but I have never seen anyone else in those spots. Funny thing is, I was really hoping to have some company and share some good fishing. I ended up getting so much flack from some other members though about openly posting locations on the board that I don't do it anymore. My favorite spot might be someone elses favorite spot and I might give it away. "You know what bulls do that you don't want to step in?" But sometimes we try to please everyone even if it is the wrong thing to do but we are Canadians aren't we? Steve I hope your surgery goes well and that you can run a marathon when it is all done but as I have told you many times before, if you ever want to come fishing up here, you have a place to park, facilities to use, a place to fish, and as long as the ice is safe enough for me to take my ATV on you will not have to walk or stand. You are right about the parking becoming less and less as the last few public access spots get developed but I think it will be several years before that becomes a real problem here. I guess only time will tell. -
Well, yesterday I got my trusty auger out and started walking and drilling. I was a little worried about what the ice might be like out over the chanel so I just took my time and drilled holes about every 50 yards but there was no need to worry, there is a good solid 8-10" of ice. I had thought the chanel would be a perfect place to find the perch and crappies, light weed cover on the bottom, deepest water in the area, heavy weed beds on both sides. My nephew, a friend, and I fished for about 3 hours, and covered quite a bit of ice but the only luck we had was that Jim got two hits and got bitten off both times. I kind of figure it must have been muskie because there was no fight, just a slow pull then nothing. We checked on another group fishing on the other side of the lake in another area I had thought would be good but apparently they hadn't got anything either. A group with a hut down near Pleasent Point had fished New Years eve until about 3 am and apparently all they got was one small walleye which I am told they promptly released but that was the only bite they had. Oh well, back to the drawing board, I may get out and drill some more holes today if the wind isn't too bad. It might take me a while but I'll find them! I must say though, it was sure nice to be able to walk out my door and be ice fishing, Sue walked out at one point, the kids all came out for a visit. What a perfect day.

ATV - Problems starting in cold weather
Big Cliff replied to The Birdfish's topic in General Discussion
While there could be a lot of things, even a combination of things, the very first question I have is "what oil are you running in it?" Next is fuel, people don't realize that there is a big difference between summer and winter grade. -
Loblaw's should know better than to pee off an old man
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the replies gang, there were some good points for both sides. Venting and a good night sleep and I feel a whole lot better. Besides, I have to get my fishing gear ready for tomorrow morning. -
(NF) Whats everyone preparing for New Years Eve dinner?
Big Cliff replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
OMG, just too much for this old man to handle, how can you even eat that stuff? This year we are having Jiggs dinner, with the help of a very special friend I think I can make it almost as good as mom could "including the peas pudding" Oh is that ever good fried up the next morning too. So you guys enjoy your trivial servings while I live like there is no tomorrow! LOL. One and all, I hope that 2010 is the best year ever for each and everyone of you! -
Loblaw's should know better than to pee off an old man
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
If 8 = 20% of what was available and this being almost New Years Eve and a time for parties and perhaps a little something special; wouldn't you think that 40 for a population that exceeds 35,000 is perhaps a little light? I would think that they were sold out so quickly and have done so for years in the past they knew exactly what they are doing. When a company knowingly takes advantage of it's customers through false or misleading advertising, I think it is time they be held accountable. Do you agree? -
So Loblaw's advertises live lobster 1 - 1.25 lbs, $6.99/lb. Now that is a good price, at least up here it is, and it is also Sue's favorite food in the whole wide world so I figure, I just got my Christmas bonus; I'll buy 8, cook and freeze 6. Good deal for us! Yesterday Sue went in about noon but was told they hadn't come in yet, come back around 1:00 so Sue did. When she got back, they told her "sorry, they were all sold out". Ya, they came in right after she left and were gone by the time she got back. Received, inspected, packaged, and sold in less than an hour. This morning I decided I would be at their door at 8:00 am. When I got in, I went right to the seafood section and asket for 8 lobster; "sorry sir, we're all sold out". I started pushing the matter, this was a three day sale, were they getting more? "Yes, they had another shipment coming in today." They couldn't tell me what time but they could tell me they were only getting 40 in again in this shipment. They wouldn't give me a rain cheque, they couldn't set any aside for me, they best they could suggest was that I call the store every 15 minutes until they came in and then rush down there and try to get some. Ya, like that was going to happen, it is a 30 minute drive for me from my house to the store. You figure it out; I call, "yes, they are in". I jump in the car, race down there only to find out they are already sold out then I spend another 1/2 hour coming home? This old man doesn't take no for an answer quite that easily (Sue taught me that, NO just means under the right circumstances you might get me to say yes but until I want to say yes, the answer is NO!) So I batted my big blues, smiled my best smile, let a single tear trickle down my cheek and asked if there was any way I could please talk to the manager. My poor wife had been here twice yeaterday, I was back again today and prepared to stand at the seafood counter until those lobster came in because there was no way in this world I was going home without some lobster. I just couldn't let my lovely wife down like that especially at this time of the year. The poor lady gives me that "all knowing" smile, walkes into the back and returns moments later with the manager so I go through the whole story again (including the single tear) but store policy dictates they can't pre book orders. OK, a second tear, my lip quivers a little then I inform her that unless I get my 8 lobster I will stand at the seafood counter until they come in and buy all 40 of them (the ad didn't specify any limit). I also reminded her that the sale is still on tomorrow and I might be able to find a home for 40 or so at that price. I'm laid off right now, Loblaws is nice and warm, lots of nice people to talk to and what the heck, fishing isn't open yet. That seemed to pluck the right string of her heart and she finally agreed that perhaps they could make an exception in this case and put 8 aside for me when they did come in and that they would call me as soon as they did. 12:00 came and went, 1:00 pm, finally about 1:40 I went back into the store, they had just come in aboput 15 minutes ago and they were all sold out already. I reminded the young lady that the manager had agreed to put 8 aside for me and I would bring a wheel chair with me and some news people (I can't stand for long periods of time). She looked at the other girl behind the counter and went into the back and got my lobster. I smilled, thanked her for all her efforts, wished her a happy new year and headed to the cash. There was a very nice young man working the cash, we chatted breifly, I commented that the lobster sure went fast, he commented that " they only get 40 in a shipment and that it was too bad some people had to be such hogs and buy 8 or 10 at a time so there wernt enough for other people". Man, that did it! Up until then I might have just let it go but that was the last straw. They advertise a super special price in an area this size; then they only ship in 40 of them per day; they don't specify any limit, and he is going to give me attitude? Like this is all my fault that they are sold out because I took more than my share? I tried calling the Better Business Bureau this afternoon, they are closed until the 4th. Any suggestions as to who else I should/can contact. This is just plain wrong, a company the size of Loblaws puts on s super special, doesn't supply anything reasonable in the quantity of product knowing full well they will be sold out in minutes, that can't be anything short of missleading advertising. The fact that they advertise it as a 3 day sale leads you to believe that they would have enough available to supply an expected 3 days of volume. If they ran out at the end of day 2 or something like that. OK To run out within the first 20 minutes of the sale! Can anyone else add a Loblaws story (good or bad) cause I'm going to be emailing their head office. Might not do me any good but it sure won't do them any good either!

Don't know about Rice lake but there is NO snow on Sturgeon Lake, you'd probably be better off on skates because it is like one big rink as far as the eye can see. I haven't been out to drill any test holes yet, I may try to get out today and drill a few.

My Dad Has been in The Hospital (NF)UPDATE
Big Cliff replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Mike, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! The best place for your dad to be right now is in the hospital where he can get the care he needs and the problem fixed. Keep thinking positive, it will help you all!
